Who Is Bold In Thank You M Am

In the story “Thank You M’am” by Langston Hughes I think that Mrs. Jones seems to be bold because she dragged Roger home with her, helped clean him up, and most of all she tested Roger. The story is about a woman who was walking down the street and was almost robbed. Instead of letting herself get robbed she took matters into her own hands.
The first reason why Mrs. Jones seems bold is because she dragged Roger home with her. In the text it says, "Mrs. Jones stopped, jerked him around in front of her, put a half nelson about his neck, and continued to drag him up the street" (Hughes 31). It seems like Mrs. Jones is tough because she put him in a half nelson which is a wrestling move. Mrs. Jones takes charge of the situation to protect herself

Jones seems bold is because she brought Roger home with her and made him wash his face. In the text it says, "Then Roger you will go to that sink and wash your face, said the woman, whereupon she turned him loose-at last" (Hughes 32). She made him wash his face because he was really dirty. I feel like it was her way of giving him a clean start/second chance. It also shows Roger that someone cares for him.
The third reason why Mrs. Jones is bold is because she left her purse on the table and the door open. Roger could have left with the purse. In the text it says, "The woman did not watch the boy to see if he was going to run now, nor did she watch her purse which she left behind her on the day-bed" (Hughes 32). The woman was showing Roger that she trusted him. She knew he wasn't a bad kid, he was just making bad choices. This was her way of giving him a chance to prove himself. When Mrs. Jones let go of Roger for him to go wash his face why didn't he choose to run out the door?
These paragraphs show that Mrs. Jones is bold. She dragged Roger to her house, made him wash up, and she had to trust him. Most people would probably want to call the police on Roger, but Mrs. Jones didn´t. Mrs. Jones probably didn´t call the police on Roger because she wanted to show him that someone cared. By the way that she lives, in a one room apartment, she can understand what it feels like to want things and this gives her sympathy for
