A fictional character I am opposite of, but empathetic towards would be Forrest Gump. One thing I do not have in common with Forrest Gump were his accomplishments and bravery. After college Forrest Gump joined the military during the Vietnam War and later received a Medal of Honor for his bravery. During the war, Forrest’s platoon was ambushed by Viet Cong, and during the ambush he saved many soldiers. If I was ever in that situation during a war, I would be scared and lost. I would have not been brave enough to go back even though I know it is the right thing to do. Throughout the move I constantly felt empathetic towards Forrest and what he is going through. When Forrest finds out his mom is dying, he seemed scared, and shocked. This scene
People see movies to get a momentary escape from reality and be engaged in a fictional perfect world or other genres that may snatch their emotions. The emotions seen in the audience are created by using ethos, logos, and pathos throughout the movie. Ethos is what portrays the credibility throughout the film such as using famous actors or placing historically accurate scenes in the film. Logos is represented by the logical scenes throughout the film such as the fame of the film including its rating and awards or the historically accurate scenes representing the time the film was set in. Finally, pathos is what grabs the emotions of the audience from the dramatic scenes throughout the movie. In the movie Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis portrays ethos, logos, and pathos several times throughout the film to pull the audience in and leave them as if they were living in the film.
Humans are the most advanced beings on Earth. Since we are the dominant creature, we are the best creature. We can do astounding things, like what I’m doing right now. It’s pretty cool to have the brain of a human. Right? Debatably. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout and Jem experience classism and implicit bias. From this, they learn to empathize.
People tend to find meaning in all aspects of life, and they rely and examine symbols to gain further insight into their life. Symbolism is prevalent in numerous films, however, in the 1994 film “Forrest Gump” by Robert Zemeckis intertwines symbolism to introduce the general themes of the film. In the film “Forrest Gump” the filmmaker focuses on the interesting life of Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is an innocent honest man, who like many, has overcome adversity to achieve success. This same adversity helps Forrest and his general outlook on life. Through all these obstacles, he is an all star football, receives an honorary medal in the Vietnam war and sets up a successful shrimp business. As the film progresses, Robert Zemeckis, does an excellent job of adding important symbols that help the audience gain a better understanding of the characters and the film itself. This adversity and perspective on life is personified through objects such as the box of chocolates which represent uncertainty, the feather which appears at the beginning and the end and furthermore, the concept of running is a repetitious symbol in the film, all have important roles in shaping the lives of characters portrayed in the film.
In ‘To Kill A Mockingbird,’ Harper Lee uses many methods to build empathy for the mockingbirds. They are Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. She does this through flashbacks, symbolism, and words of the wiser.
her. An example of this is at the girl's college and Jenny is in the
What is sociological imagination? Our textbook describes sociological imagination as the ability to see our private experiences, personal difficulties, and achievements as, in part, a reflection of the structural arrangements of society and the times in which we live. The movie entitled Forrest Gump is a great example of sociological imagination. In this paper, I will cite examples from the movie and tell how they correlate with sociological imagination. Sociological imagination allows us examine the events of our lives and see how they intersect with the wider context of history and tradition of the society
I think one of the original hooks of the book “How To Kill A Mockingbird” is that Atticus Finch was standing up and taking the side of a black man, in this time and day that was something unheard of. People hear that Atticus is behind a black man and fighting for his freedom and this catches their attention because thats not a common thing. Atticus knows its probably a dangerous choice to support the black man in his fight in court, but he also understands the black mans struggles and has empathy for him, especially if he didn’t do it. This is the message he is trying to teach his kids and the people he’s around.
Empathy can be defined as making a connection to someone during a situation. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, empathy is a main part in some of the characters’ lives. Without empathy, the novel would lack many components that make the main characters, Jem and Scout, who they are.
A fictional character that is very inspirational to me is Dean Winchester from "Supernatural". Dean Winchester is very inspirational to me in many ways. He could be a role model to any person who grew up without a mother or had a father who would leave for months without even knowing where he was. Dean would take care of his little brother Sam, and protect him from school and anything that would bother him. While the two brothers would be raising themselves, Dean would be following the family business, which would be solving cases and figuring out the creature that is killing innocent people.
“Stupid is what stupid does ma’am.” Forrest Gump would constantly repeat to people he met, How would you feel if every time someone was talking to you they called you stupid, I wouldn’t like it. Forrest Gump grew up his whole life getting bullied and picked on from kids and adults alike. That didn’t stop him from being who he was or what he wanted to do. Forrest was a troubled boy with little intelligence, but a big heart. His mama knew this best of all. She always helped Forrest understand things and supported every decision he ever made. Forrest never had many friends but treated everyone as such. In school you were always told, “Treat others how you would want to be treated.” But no one ever lives by that code their whole life. Forrest also never let anything get in his way. Even though he knew he was slow in thought, he gave everything his best effort and he did it for himself and that is what makes Forrest Gump my hero.
The movie Forrest Gump played by Tom Hank is a story about Forest Gump a simple man and his journey through life. Gump was simple minded and lived his life by a set of values taught to him by his mother (Sally Field). While Forest sat down waiting for a bus, he tells his story. Forest takes part in several defining historical moments such as the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal and also had painful experiences. Despite his setbacks and naive nature, he struggles and triumphs in everything he did. Forrest developed a good self-esteem and self-concept with the help of his mother’s observation, love, and sincerity. With his mother and Jenny’s encouragements, he was able to overcome his physical handicap and become an outstanding runner among other things. This movie is an example of the how a child’s mind developed through series of stages. This paper shows the following key points; intellectual disability, Erickson’s intimacy vs isolation, low self-esteem, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Forrest Gump is an exceptional movie that includes a wide range variety of character diversity. Upon my examination of the movie, the first aspect I’d like to deliberate on is the developmental psychology of early adulthood. In the early adulthood life stage, individuals are typically between the ages of 20 and 35. Individuals in the early adulthood life stage are more than likely to possess good health, live a healthy active life, and are career oriented. Early adulthood life stage focuses on the formal cognitive stage, though there is much deliberation among many developmentalists.
what fictional hero or villain do you most identify with? As a kid, we all love super hero. They are peacemaker and they always look after their people. They saved their people from their enemy and they willing to give up their life for their people.
The movie Forrest Gump was directed by Robert Zemeckis and released in 1994. Tom Hanks (Forrest) is the lead actor, throughout the movie everything being told is from his point of view. Robin Wright (Jenny), Gary Sinise (LT. Dan), and Mykelti Williamson (Benjamin) are also frequently shown since they have leading roles as well. This film mainly focuses on the achievements of a man who is considered below average intellectually and how he manages to take care of himself. Forrest Gump receives a lot of negativity in his childhood and with the help of his loving mother he never thought of himself as disadvantaged.
Tiffany Sievers While watching the movie Forrest Gump I was able to apply several different concepts of Psychology from the movie. The first thing I was able to apply to psychology is Forrest Gump experiences emotion throughout the movie. Another thing I was able to apply to psychology is Forrest Gump had a learning disability, I was also able to apply Forrest Gump’s Sargent in the Vietnam war experiences PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after having his legs blown off to psychology and the last thing I was able to apply to psychology is even though Forrest Gump had a learning disability it didn’t stop him from motivating himself to do all the things he did. (like play college football, got college, go to the war and last but
