Critics have long written articles about the inconsistencies of the character Hamlet. This author believes Hamlet represents fundamental laws of human nature. Hamlet represents that balance between thinking about the world and taking action within it. Hamlet is a direct contrast to Macbeth because Macbeth takes actions without thinking about it, but Hamlet overthinks his action. Hamlet never breaks that chains of his mind, and this leads to his downfall because he is unable to take action until it is too late.
My opinion: I agree that Hamlet does represent the crossroads between action and thought. Within the first four acts of the play, Hamlet takes almost no action to achieve his goal of killing king Claudius. He kills Polonius directly, and Ophelia indirectly. The author asked the question, is Hamlet real? His answer is that Hamlet is as real as our own thoughts. This is because Hamlet contains many truths about life that a majority of readers have experience, so we connect with the play, and specifically the character Hamlet. He takes the actions that happen within the play and reflects introspectly, which in turns causes us to reflect on them. We also connect deeply with the play because it unfolds very realistic, Shakespeare does not force actions to happen, they flow very naturally. Hamlet is such a relatable character because he is believe, he is no more of a hero then a man can be. He has the same character flaws that many young men have, like the inability to act. Hamlet reflects on his actions, and it's this reflection that causes his inability to act because the murder will not be as perfect as it could be.
