Week three’s devotional really touched me. Many people think they can do everything on their own, that they do not need God in their life. I feel that we all need God to help us get through the challenges in our lives, so we can grow and learn from those challenges. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (NASB). John 14:26 supports my feelings when it comes to needing God, as He will teach us.

They do this by sharing traumatic times in their lives, and how their faith got them through difficult times. Mary Rowlandson greatly relied on her religion. In her work “A
Countless stories on recoveries over the decade has proven that those who hold a strong religious faith have a high chance to change. Through a spiritual belief in something greater than ourselves and the world around will help fill the person with the love, faith, determination and encouragement that they need and push the individual to continue forward through the pain. It won't be easy, but theses elements will help make the bumpy road ahead
Although it is a series of bad experiences with priests that turns him away from his religion, it is another priest who helps him to reassure his faith. As Frank reaches an all-time spiritual low, he goes to pray to
Soon after being held in captivity, Mary Rowlandson’s attitude started changing from hopeless to hopeful; “Oh, I may see the wonderful power of God, that my Spirit did not utterly sink under my affliction: still the Lord upheld me with His gracious and merciful spirit, and we were both alive to see the light of the next morning” (Rowlandson 131). Here Rowlandson is talking about how she is able to keep her spirit up even though her daughter is extremely sick and she has no friends to comfort her. She claims she is able to do this because of the great power of God. It seems like her mind is being uplifted by the thought of God, and she is able to focus on the good things she still has in life. I believe without her religious beliefs keeping her mentally healthy throughout all of her hardships, she would have never been able to handle her captivity as well as she did. Even after her daughter died, she is still able to keep herself together; “I have thought since of the wonderful goodness of God to me in preserving me in the use of my reason and senses in that distressed time, that I did not use wicked and violent means to end my own miserable life” (Rowlandson 132). She recognizes looking back that she could have easily decided to take her own life after losing her daughter at such a young and helpless age. It is God who protected her and kept her from doing anything bad to herself at such a low point
The person behind the Name. The persona who created one of the mist enigmatic characters in all of 20th-century children’s literature. Who was she? Who was he? Or more specifically, who were they? Carolyn Keene is more than just an iconic pen name, it also holds a mystery of its own. To define an adequate biographical sketch for Carolyn Keene, one must first consider the genesis of her existence. Edward Stratemeyer is truly Carolyn Keene as far as formal definition is concerned. A popular children’s author and an established household name, Stratemeyer was a tad on the greedy side and saw a chance to farm out his writing responsibilities to capable young writers to produce the Nancy Drew Series. This gave him a very lucrative business (Rehak

“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died” John 11:21 (ESV). Ever had felt your life spinning out-of-control? Times where you felt overwhelmed, over-wrought where it felt as if God was nowhere to be found?. Moments where, it seemed, if only God had shown up in time, things would not have turned out the way they did. In Martha’s experience, she had just lost a brother and things for her turned out very differently than what she had ever imagined. She now had a house of confusion and sorrow, a house filled with questions “if only Jesus had shown up in time”. Like Martha, I’m sure we’ve all weighed into life’s disappointing moments. In John verse 25 we find that Jesus enlarges Martha's

Frank Foley died in May 1958 from two massive heart attacks, and although they tried to save him, it was too late (Smith 1-273). This great man that had once saved so many Jewish people from death was now dead himself. There were many family friends at Foley’s funeral and after time thank you letters and letters of sympathy rolled in for him (Smith 1-273). Foley left behind a wife, Kay, and only one child, Ursula Foley, whom he loved dearly(Smith 1-273). Their lives were constantly in danger with the work that he was doing although. It is amazing that they were never harmed. Kay Foley worked beside her husband in many accounts and she was very proud of all the things that
