Minho- Minho is the former Glader and Keeper of the Runners. Minho is described by Thomas as an Asian with strong arms and short, black hair, who looked to be a little older than him. He is aggressive, but loyal, and tends to be sarcastic. Throughout the books, some characters mention his habit of always having the last word at any argument or debate. Also noted to have one of the best senses of humor amongst the Gladers. His name was mentioned in an interview with the author, James Dashner, and he said it is a reference to a possible future scientist.
Gally - Gally is a Glader who didn't trust Thomas from the beginning. He was Thomas's first enemy in the Glade. He was said to be named after Galileo. He serves as the main antagonist of the first book. In The Maze Runner, Thomas described him as a fifteen year old who was tall and skinny with black hair, green eyes, and a nose that was the size of a small fist that resembled a deformed potato. His voice was described as being scratchy. He is also at most times, quick to anger.

She is named after Mother Teresa. Teresa was described as looking about fifteen years old, though actually seventeen. She was described in The Maze Runner as a very beautiful girl, being "thin, but not too small," "roughly five and a half feet," with "burning blue eyes" and skin that was "pale, white as pearls." She had silky "tar black hair" with "long legs" and "perfect pink lips," and is labeled as “the betrayer” in The Death Cure for what she did to
The character Thomas from “ This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix, Arizona.” is keeping his word by watching over Victor when he most needs it. Thomas is a guy no one really likes and talk to because he is always telling random stories, people see him as a crazy person. In reality Thomas is very humble, because after Victor beating him up for no reason one day, Thomas still decided to help Victor when he was most in need of it.
There are rules and normal things in the Glade that are not normal to Thomas and he feels out of place. The Glade is basically a big high school where people fight and hold grudges, but the Glades rules specifically say not to hurt other gladers. This confuses Thomas and sets him outside of everyone because he has an immediate enemy with Gally. Gally and Thomas are one of the only enemy pairs in the glade. “Griever got ya wettin’ yourself?” the boy said through a sneer. “A little scared now? Don't wanna get stung, do you?” (Dasher 18). Gally is very condescending and rude to Thomas, which makes Thomas want to fight back. The boys both have a very hard time following the rules of the Glade, which set them both outside if the
I believe that the Mazer Runner has a couple of themes. Friendship - Friendship is important because the Gladers are united by a strong bond they trust each other, and are friends. Freindship is necessary in life because you know you have someone that will support you and talk to you. Persistence - Persistence is an important theme because the Gladers would have never escaped if they gave up and didn’t do their part. So no matter how tough it gets, you should never give up, and you will be rewarded at the end. Bravery - Bravery is a theme in the Maze Runner because Thomas is unquestionably brave, he will do anything to protect his friends, even risk his life. This tells the reader that through all parts of life bravery is important to make it to the next
Thomas, voluntarily saves one of the Glader's who was injured coming back from the maze. Consequently, in the time he saved him, he fails at getting him back home.
Harrison, he is the author. His dad who is kinda a angry and violent man. His mom who is quiet and unassuming. He has a brother named bird, who is the course of the book comes out that he is a half brother. His wife is stunningly beautiful.
Thomas enters the Glade the same way a baby is welcomed into the world. They come out with no memories of the womb and they do not know anything, not even their name. Therefore, they are confused, like Thomas and just want to cry. Slowly, however, they are taught things until they can function on their own. This helps show that one of the symbols in The Maze Runner is the maze itself, as it symbolizes life and how complex it is. As life does not follow one rule but instead has many obstacles and Unforeseen events which is like the twists and turns in the maze. In life there are the nice straight paths these are when nothing is wrong and life seems easy. Then there are times where there are twists and turns, this is when in your life a hard
The Maze Runner, by James Dashner continued to capture my eyes attention as I continued to read this book. The next chapters of this book were very interesting and I learned a lot. My prediction from my last entry turned out somewhat true however somethings did not happen. The first part of my prediction was that the Grievers would go out and hurt more people. Actually, this did not happen. Secondly, I predicted that Thomas would go in the wall to kill the Grievers. Furthermore, Thomas actually went inside not to kill the Grievers, but to help Minho and Alby. However, Thomas and Minho actually ended up killing four of the Grievers. Lastly, I predicted that Thomas would find a way out of this place. This didn’t exactly happen. Minho found the
I believe that Chuck is the static character in the story the Maze Runner. His character stays the same throughout the story. He stays funny, kind, friendly and loyal to Thomas. He helps Thomas when he first
The book and recent movie adaptation, The Maze Runner, is strongly related to the life
In the beginning, the main character, Thomas, has his memory wiped so he doesn’t know anything. Over time though, he begins to accept where he is (the Glade) and that the people in the Glade have nothing but each other. Thomas also adapts to the Glade’s slang, and talks like a Glader. He also saves the lives of some Gladers who are his friends, such as Alby. At the end Thomas became a sort of leader, trying to make the best decisions when the rest of the Gladers didn’t know what to do. Thomas talks to the other Gladers like someone would talk to their friends or family, and Thomas does his best to help protect the Gladers. Thomas is hard and cold to the people from WICKED, as at the end one of their workers kills Chuck, one of Thomas’s
Thomas is the narrator and protagonist of the story. He arrives in the maze with no knowledge of who he is or was. He only remembers his name and nothing else about his life. Thomas proves to be brave and clever even though he only has a very limited memory of previous knowledge of the Maze. Since arriving in the maze, Thomas makes both friends and enemies and proves to be a leader among the other boys with him in the maze.
The novel “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner uses techniques of showing self-discovery by using symbolism with characters and moments. Imagine waking up in an elevator, bringing you to a different destination far away from home you figure out that you can’t remember anything besides your name, you're trying to solve a maze, you need people and moments. The people symbolize remembrance, sacrifice also moments like changing to help the character go through the journey of self-discovery. Teresa symbolize both hope and remembrance, Minho symbolizes sacrifice, and the moment of change symbolizes the changing. In the novel The Maze Runner, James Dashner expresses self-discovery through using characters
Nevertheless his character in the film differs from the one in the book. In the book Gally has already been stung by the grievers and this means he also underwent the Changing. This throws light upon the question why Gally feels so much hate towards Thomas. Thus, this is clear in the book, in the film this remains a mystery. Another reason for his changed character is the choice of scenes in the film. In the film, some scenes that could have caused Gally to create more resentment towards Thomas are eliminated. For instance, on Thomas’s first day, he and Chuck are fooling with him whilst he is in the
Right from the start it was obvious to both the Gladers and the audience that Thomas and Gally were going to continuously clash throughout the movie. When Thomas first comes up in the box, he is shown from a high angle that makes him appear weak, small and frightened. This is reversed by the low angle point of view shot for Gally from Thomas’s position. This camera shot shows that Gally holds the power over Thomas and makes him look bigger than what he is. Throughout the beginning of the movie when Thomas is settling in to life in the Glade, Gally is shown from a lower angle compared to Thomas, as he still holds the majority of the power amongst the Gladers. These conflicting angles of dominant and submissive begin to change once Thomas starts challenging the norm and upsetting the balance of the Glade causing Gally to lose his grip
The Maze Runner by James Dashner is 374 pages and is a science fiction novel. The story takes place in a strange place surrounded by massive thick ivy covered walls. The outside of these walls is a detrimental maze. The people in between the walls are called Gladers. They have been memory wiped and sent to a mysterious place called the Glade. The main characters that take place at the Glade are Thomas, Theresa, Gally, Alby, Minho, Chuck, and Newt. When arriving at the Glade everyone quickly shares one common goal. Their goal is to figure out the maze and get out of there.
