Although at the beginning of the play Lady Macbeth did present the idea to Macbeth himself; she wanted to just kill the one person. Macbeth and his inability to stand for himself and go against his wife went along with her plan. After the plan had been executed Lady Macbeth had been satiated and was at peace with their standing. Macbeth however wanted more. "We've scorched the snake, not killed it." Macbeth decided that by eliminating all competition not just those who had come before him, he would consolidate and ensure his reign indefinitely. There have been debates regarding who the cause of his downfall was. Others argue that Lady Macbeth, his wife, is the cause of his downfall but this is not true. The ruthless actions of Macbeth cause his downfall and his demise and he should be accountable for his own actions and accept the consequences that follow.
In Greek mythology, kings and heroes would go to a oracle who would tell them their future with a prophecy. The prophecy that the oracle speaks will always come true no matter what the kings or heroes will do to prevent their future from happening. In Macbeth a great play written by Shakespeare three witches, who represent the three fates from Greek mythology, state a prophecy to Macbeth. The prophecy states Macbeth will be thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor, and king. Macbeth follows the prophecy and becomes king by committing regicide and killing innocent people to stay king. In the beginning of the play Lady Macbeth was the evil one in charge, making decisions for her and Macbeth. She was making decisions for her and Macbeth and forcing him to act upon them. Macbeth begins to not listen to her and starts to boss her around. This really affects Lady Macbeth and she does not know how to proceed. By the end of the play Lady Macbeth gives up on trying to control Macbeth and her evil ways. Lady Macbeth realizes that Macbeth is crazy and she can not control what he does. She then decides that the situation she is in with Macbeth is so bad that she has end her life. Her death is a defeat to her controlling evil ways.
