The Eastern world is full of revolutionary events with few to stand up and lead the people it is no wonder those who do, are considered heroes. Unlike villains who are revered and remembered for their heinous doings heroes are the light in the dark world society calls home. Finally without real world heroes who would our children look up to and strive to become? Through compassion, empathy, and kindness this man was able to appeal the masses and raise money to help children in poverty stricken countries; Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama.
Not all hero beginnings are awe inspiring, from humble origins, Tenzin was born on July 6, 1935, to farmers; father Chroekgang Tsering and mother Diki Tsering, he had 4 brothers and 2 sisters that survived infancy, and was the second oldest. Recognized at the age of 2 as the 14th Dalai Lama by Thubten Gyatso, the 13th Dalai Lama, Tenzin made his journey to the Kumbum monastery where at the ripe age of 6 began to study Buddhism. “There now began a somewhat unhappy period of my life.” Tenzin explains, leaving his parents and the rest of the family behind to pursue greater things. That’s why the Dalai Lama promotes with great enthusiasm the act of kindness between one another. There are many ways to go about kindness: through action or through forgiveness. One example of this that the Dalai Lama has portrayed is his forgiveness of China and their actions towards Tibet in the 20th century: conquering and killing many Tibetans, forcing many to leave their home country in order to merely survive. Tenzin has iterated many times kindness towards the human race will bring society together regardless of race, culture, nationality, religion,
Have you ever met a person who was forced to their home and family just to fight for innocent people from another country? Despite that, farming for long hours each day, and fighting life-threatening health risks, my grandfather, Leroy Recker, refuses to stop helping other no matter what, and that makes him a hero. He gave up his time to protect his nation and the people in, and even those of a nation he didn’t even know, without any objections. He now farms with his brother and son each year even though he is fighting a large amount of issues with his health. Leroy has given so much to others and his country, and deserves more honor and recognition as a hero than he is given.
In today's society people are often seen as rude, inconsiderate and self centered. Although there are people on a day to day bases that helps those in need, not a lot of recognition is given. Yes there are true heros in the world even without being seen or wearing a cape flying through the city they are silent. They are our everyday advocates fighting for a true cause. As I read the Little Princes Conor Grennan comes to mind. He showed true determination through all circumstances. Although people never may have heard of him his work has definitely paid off. WIth more than 300 families reconnected he has answered a lot of prayers. In this book after turning a three month trip into a life long journey Conor committed to helping children who
Today, we celebrate him, Martin Luther King Jr., as one of our prodigious leaders. In this today’s world, one who encompasses traits such as courteousness, motive, and valor, can definitely be a hero. “They made their graves among the poor,/ And never asked for anything
Over the years and past life there has been so much genocide in this planet earth, the ones who suffered were the gay, german, jews, and the special needs. About 6 million jews and 5 million non jews were sadly dead and murdered. What's genocide some may ask genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular nation, people have learned to trust and treat everybody equally and with respect and let nothing tell each other apart. And in the huge event called the holocaust where such genocide happened with hitler there were some specific people who helped save jews even knowing the circumstances that come with it.
“I wish I could be a hero!” Many adults in today’s society hear small children wishing they could become heroes. Children wish to be more like heroes for the reason that heroes are the type of people who risk their lives to help others. Throughout history, children have had a positive connotation with the word “hero.” The heroes many small children talk about are the fictional ones who protect cities from villains: Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and others. However, these are not the only types of heroes in today’s world. Firefighters and policemen are also considered heroes because they save the lives of those in danger. Many adults consider their inspirations to be heroes, such as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin
Have you ever wondered what it took to be a hero? Elie Wiesel is an example of how you can be one. Wiesel wrote many books to spread the misfortune of the Holocaust. He also taught humanities at Boston University. Before he died he had the honor of being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, in his efforts to void the world of hate and violence. He impacted the world by keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive but omitting the idea of it. In the end, he helped many see the importance of uniting to overcome something so evil.
To become a better community member, one must practice altruism. Altruism is the display of good deeds for the well-being of others. In Martin Luther King Jr.’s letter, “On Being a Good Neighbor”, King tells the story of a good Samaritan and how he participated in all types of altruism by helping the community members around him. King says that because the Samaritan showed universal altruism, “He had a piercing insight into that which is beyond the eternal accidents of race, religion, and nationality” (558). This Samaritan does not let race, religion, or nationality limit his good deeds. This is how King defines universal altruism. One can become a stronger community member by displaying universal altruism because every day we judge people by their race, religion, or nationality. We are naturally biased, but if we let go of the prejudice and biased thoughts then we can do better service and deeds for the members of our community. Through my
And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.” this is a quote by the Dalai Lama and it is very true. Doing something good by helping people is a chain reaction, because if I help one person by doing something, then they might be impacted and they could pass it on by doing something nice too. That could make the world a much better place, by spreading happiness and helpfulness one person at a time.
The Dalai Lama has also challenged adherents to accept the fate that is given to them and make the greatest use of their reincarnated form. As a young child he was unable to reject the position of ‘Dalai Lama’ however he has managed to utilise this position to the best advantage and has bettered the world through this. He has pushed for the bettering of the world for both religious and secular societies. His messages of peace, tolerance and the renunciation of the desires of anger and revenge have resonated with people globally.
Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, throughout time many of them have risen and fallen. A hero is characterized as someone that is a leader to his people, they reflect societal views, and yet they have a major flaw that often causes their downfall. During the 20th century a revolutionary man rose from his years of exile to lead the Bolshevik party into power, his name, Vladimir Lenin. Lenin stands as a prime example of a leader that reflects Russia’s social values, and as a flaw for his outspoken nature suffers from a near-death assassination.
Throughout history, there have been many heroic people who have impacted the world in many ways, whether it is something comparable to saving people’s lives, or being an influence to somebody and their future. Jackie Robinson was the first African-American Major League Baseball player, he has been a major part of history, and has changed our society greatly. Miep Gies was a heroine to many people during the holocaust, she saved many lives and didn’t question what the consequences of her actions would be. Harriet Tubman lead many slaves to freedom, risking her own. Although Jackie Robinson, Miep Gies, and Harriet Tubman had many different experiences, when the time came, they all acted very heroically.
Among world leaders, there is no one like His Holiness the Dalai Lama, religious and political leader of Tibet and winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize. Brought up from an unusual childhood, he became head of the state of Tibet at age 16, and was later forced into exile by the Chinese government. Despite all the hardship he had to endure he does not give up his fight for freedom and treats all sentiment beings with love and compassion. Through his fight for freedom, he has proven himself to be the spiritual and political leader whom the people of Tibet love.
Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday.
Elizabeth is also strong and courageous. When John is accused of witchcraft, Elizabeth is willing to follow along with the decision John decides about whether he wants to confess or not. She knows if he confesses he will be living a lie and if he tells the truth, he will be put to death. Although the decision John makes will affect Elizabeth and she wants John alive, she is courageous towards John by showing her support and love. Elizabeth knows she must put her opinions to the side and John must construct this decision on his own. Elizabeth states, “I cannot judge you, John, I cannot” (Miller). Elizabeth is also strong because she was falsely accused by Abigail and
This essay will reflect the meaning, as well as the mythological interpretation of a movie titled “Little Buddha.” In the movie, “Little Buddha,” there were Tibetan Buddhist monks from a monastery in Bhutan, led by Lama Norbu, searching for a child, who they believed had been reincarnated, as the Buddhist leader, Lama Dorje. This individual was thought to be in an American child named Jesse. Jesse was believed to be the son of an architect father, named Dean, and a school teacher mother, named Lisa. The family lived in Seattle, Washington. The monks traveled to Seattle to meet the boy, observe his daily routine and habits, learn his personality to determine if he could undergo further testing to prove whether or not he was the reincarnated being of Lama Dorje.
