Kate was 15,Her father was a famous painter and was out of town mostly he had lost all of his stuff when a fire broke out and burnt down his office and studio leaving him to live in hotels. The author did not mention much about Kate's mom.
Ben was the oldest out of the three and was a fullback on his school's football team. Ben was a sturges he was the fourth Ben in the family.Ben’s father was proud of his son and pushed him to being the best of the best in athletics and on his team.
In the beginning, Paul is mostly a ‘momma’s boy’, for example, on page 25, when Paul fisher’s mom introduces him to the school, she says, “We are hoping to see exactly where Paul will be going next week. He has problems
“ I went downstairs, handed the disk to mom and dad, and said ‘Here’s the whole truth. Here’s what really happened ’” (Bloor 302). In the beginning of the book, Paul was afraid of speaking up to his parents about his brother Erik. When he realizes what his brother and his friend have done to other people he told the police officers and his parents what his brother really did. “The penalty for this and for any other Level Four Infraction is expulsion” (Bloor 294). Towards the end of the book, Paul jumped on a coach's back to stop them from helping his brother. He wanted his brother to be punished for everything he did, but Paul harassed a teacher. Paul is fully developed because like in the other example, he his more brave than he has ever been. Erik got in trouble for what he did and so did Paul. He got expelled from Tangerine Middle School and transferred to St.
Ben was the youngest son to Robert and Sonya Carson. Ben's father Robert lived a double life with a double family. Once Sonya found out about his double life, Robert left them leaving their family with nothing. Ben, who had anger issues, often got in trouble at school and home. Ben apologized, rushed home, prayed to God, read his Mother's Bible, and became a Christian. Every day Ben and his brother Curtis would have to read a book which gave him the idea of becoming a neurosurgeon.
According to many readers of Paul’s Case, this is a short story that shows affection, passion, and most of all enthusiasm. Willa Cather seems to base her stories off of daily life and events that she thought progressed in many lives. Her passion for writing showed in her literature giving a visualization on what people think doesn’t occur in the regular life of a person. Also throughout Willa Cather’s short stories she gave examples upon her childhood and her time spent in a small town she grew up in. Giving her the brilliancy and the ambition to become a writer of short stories which included, Paul’s Case. Themes are represented in all short stories in Paul’s Case, Cather shows the readers a young boy being brought up in a hostile
Kate would do anything to save her mom and see her happy. The first reason is because she sold all of their past belongings and bought a house, applied for high school, and drove from New York to Eden. The only thing Kate has in mind is her mom’s happiness, “ I spent my eighteenth birthday driving from New York City to Eden, Michigan, so my mother could die in the town where she was born” (Carter 12). She dropped every thing for her mom, and her mom loved it.
When Paul returns to his town for leave, he sees just how warped everyone else's view is on the current situation of the war. A teacher from his old school talks to him about the war that is filled with death and violence as
“Paul’s Case” is a short story by Willa Cather that was written in 1905. Paul is boy in high school that has many behavior problems. He strives for attention so badly that he feels that he needs to show out in order to receive the recognition that he wants, especially from his father. Willa Cather uses symbolism in her short story to develop the tragic demise of Paul.
Paul finally escaped the hostile world he lived in, but his money-bought romance did not last long. When he discovers that his theft has been made known in the new papers, and all the stolen money has ran out, he knew he had to go back to his real life. After a week of having the glamorized life he was longing for, Paul refused to go back to face the reality that he left behind in Pittsburgh. Paul knew he couldn’t go on forever in the City with no money in his pockets so he decided to give up on his own life. While going to get on his train that would bring him back to reality, Paul stepped out in front of it and killed himself.
He is now serving a minimum of five years in jail, all due to the fact that he was doing what his parents were doing. Parents are role models for their kids, and if a kid's role models sell drugs, there is a good chance that the kid will as well. His whole family was torn apart. The allure of what and older sibling does was also a key theme in both The Pact and in my friend's life. In The Pact little kids would idolize their older brothers and sisters, wanting to do every thing in which their siblings did. This was also true in Paul's case. His brother Brian was only fifteen years old. Since his brother sold drugs, the person who he looked up to, he began selling drugs. He was arrested as well and is serving time in a juvenile detention center. Paul's life was ruined for following what his role models did, and his brother's life was ruined for following what his big brother did. These themes of following the actions of what someone's parents and/or older brother or sister do are
Kate Weiser (20’s) has a history of mental illness and is mourning the death of her parents. After learning that she was adopted, she inherits a mansion from her biological family. She learns that a woman named Mayalice, who worked for her grandfather Walter Stockton hung herself and that her biological mother is dead. Kate doesn’t know if her grandfather is alive or not.
At the beginning of this chapter, Ben makes numerous comments from his childhood that reflect what he was like as a young boy. When he speaks about his mother asking him, "DO you have a brain," it allowed me to understand the frequency of this statement throughout his life. I also thought his comment about finding a way not to pick up the target showed he and his brother were being lazy, and when he commented he could shoot better than Curtis, it showed he had an enormous amount of pride at that age. Of course, the main inspiration of the chapter was when his mother said, "You need to use the brains God gave you and learn to think beyond the can!" This was moving, however, we all need to analyze outside of the moment and seek the end result.
With her husband's outrages and seclusion, she did her best by taken care of the situation with care and calmness, especially in front of her children. Surely, when alone, she would breakdown from the pressure, sadness and changes. A family that would once take walks together on Sundays now had to deal with the father's outrages and drinking problems. Ben, the narrator, was only eight years old at the time and even his young fragile mind noticed that his life would forever be different.
Along with critically thinking while making decisions, Benjamin used his social and communication skills to his advantage to grow him into a successful person. He was able to put his communication skills to lead him to success by taking advantage of others for his own good. From his own words and experiences in the autobiography, as a young boy he seemed very outgoing, ready to meet people and face anything. While meeting so many different people in life, he was able to learn new things from them, which allowed him to find new opportunities in life. From all the people he encountered in his life, he tried to show them his potential and priority in his interests and work, even though some people mislead him. Benjamin used his own brother for
Ben, Linda, The Woman, and Willy’s names are used to emphasize their characterization. Ben’s name comes from a biblical figure, “Benjamin”. The name “Benjamin” means “one who is blessed”. In the bible, Benjamin’s ten brothers were jealous of him because their father loved him the most. This is similar to Ben Loman because Willy looks at Ben as an example of success and the American dream.
Kate and her husband had relocated, and in the years in 1882, he died of malaria and Kate became a widow at the age of thirty-two,
