In Romeo and Juliet both characters die in the end. The question of who is to blame for the death is very debateable. I personally believe that they, themselves are most at fault, but the Friar and the nurse are also a big part in the the deaths of these star-crossed lovers. I believe that they are both at fault for the deaths of themselves and each other as well. They both ended up taking their own lives so ultimately it’s their fault. They’re both also responsible for eachothers deaths also because, Romeo thinking Juliet was dead drove him to kill himself and when juliet woke to find that he was actually dead it drove her to stab herself causing her death. Some may say the Friar is at fault. This is a logical accusation because he married them, he helped them communicate, and he left Juliet. …show more content…
The reason as to why people say the nurse is at fault is because, she let them see each other, she delivered messages for them, and she turned her back on Juliet. The nurse was one of the two, the other being Friar Laurence that knew of Romeo and Juliet’s wedding. The nurse let them get married and let the see each other. The nurse communicates with Romeo for Juliet and tells Juliet where to go to marry Romeo. When things started to get complicated with Juliet being told she was marrying Paris the nurse turned her back on Juliet. The nurse was like a mother to Juliet, Juliet relied on the nurse for lots of things including advice. When Juliet needed the most help she turned to her, when she asked her what to do the nurses reply to her was, “ I think it best you marry with the county” (3.5 218). She is very straightforward saying marry Paris, Juliet takes this as an act of betrayal because she had been the supporter of Juliet and Romeo the whole time. Juliet was left to make some very important decisions by herself at such a young age, this is why some say the nurse is at
This proves that The Nurse does not have any pre judgmental thoughts about Romeo, that she believes in him, and is substantial because it solidifies that she is kind not only just to Juliet (Act 3, Scene 3, line 85-173). The Friar actually accompanies her in this scene, acting out the same behavior, attempting to keep Romeo from slipping into a deep depression at the thought of never seeing Juliet again. And When The Nurse is commanded by Lord Capulet to bring forth the news to Juliet that she must marry Paris, though reluctant as she is, she agrees that marrying Paris would be in her best interests, and The Nurse tells Juliet what she must do which is critical because it validates that The Nurse will do anything to keep Juliet from harm even if she does not like it. Although marrying Paris is not something Juliet wants to do, The Nurse knows that that is what is best for her, and Juliet lies and tells her that she will marry him (Act 3, Scene 5, Lines 176-246).
Some people may think the Nurse and Friar Lawrence is ultimately to blame for Romeo and Juliet deaths. The Nurse and Friar Lawrence both kept secrets. The Nurse told Juliet to marry Paris and the Friar knew Juliet was brave enough to take the sleeping potion and fake her death. Fate and
The deaths of the two lovers Romeo and Juliet were unnecessary and could have been avoided in many ways. The main person that is to blame for their deaths is Friar Lawrence. The Friar was an outsider looking into the family feud thinking it was ridiculous for the two lovers to not be able to be together. He underestimated the seriousness of this family feud and overestimated in Romeo and Juliet and neither were mature enough to go through with his complex plan. The Friar is the person most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because, he was the one who gave Juliet the sleeping potion as part of his plan to fake her death, he conducted the awful plan to fake Juliet’s death, and followed through with the plan without properly informing
Romeo is to blame for Juliet’s and his own death, because when he was banned from Verona, he could have found someone else in Mantua.
Have you ever wondered whose fault it really is that Romeo and Juliet died? In all honesty, no matter how hard your try, you really can’t blame one single person for their deaths. However, some characters were more at fault than others. I believe, and have evidence to prove, that Friar Laurence contributed most to the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. He married them knowing the bad consequences of their marriage, he helped Juliet fake her death, and he was very secretive about everything throughout the entire story.
The Nurse is a good friend of Juliet´s and also played a big role in raising her. The nurse wanted the best for juliet and for her to be happy therefore, she encouraged her to get married. ¨Is your man secret? Did you ne'er hear say, Two may keep counsel, putting one away..¨(2.4, 185) This showed how the nurse knew how dangerous it was for the people to find out they were married yet, she still allowed the marriage and told them to betray their parents and keep it secret. The nurse also sent Romeo letters for Juliet to keep them in contact. ¨There stays a husband to make you a wife. Now comes the wanton blood up in your cheeks.¨(2.5). This shows that the nurse had talked to romeo. Although, Friar is the one who brought the idea of
Despite all of these actions which ultimately ended in chaos, I don't think that the Friar or the Nurse were to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. On some level their actions did partake in what eventuated in the tragedy, but they came with the best intentions, with high hopes that they would be able to save a young couple's love and end a bitter feud. Friar Laurence did bring the families together, but it was with death rather than marriage. O brother Montague, give me thy hand. (V, 3, 232)
Even though there are many different views on who was most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, through information in the text it is clear to see that Friar Laurence was most responsible. The Friar took it upon himself to marry the two in secret making them inseparable. The Friar came up with the plan that was doomed from the start and ultimately lead to the death of the two teens. William Shakespeare’s work was very controversial, Romeo and Juliet was no exception, it involved the death of many people and two suicides of teens just for
When Juliet is forced to marry Paris, she calls for the Nurse for help, but the Nurse recommended that she go through with the wedding with Paris. All this leads many to believe the nurse is insensitive and often only sides with what is
The nurse is very loyal to Juliet as shown in the past quote. The nurse is taking a chance at talking to Romeo for she knows that he is of the house of Montague and god knows the penalty for the interaction between.
The nurse means well, and has Juliet’s interests at heart, but is not a very good mentor either. “I think it best you married with the county. Oh he’s a lovely gentleman. Romeo’s a dishclout to him (Shakespeare 204). The nurse is insulting Romeo in this quote and is telling Juliet that it’s best to marry Paris because he’s lovely and that Romeo’s a dishcloth compared to him. Also, considering the nurse’s position as a maid and how she immediately changes her mind about Romeo, she isn’t a good mentor. “These griefs, these woes, these sorrows make me old. Shame come to Romeo!” (Shakespeare 160). The nurse finds out about Tybalt’s and comes home to tell Juliet about it, while also shaming Romeo. Later on the nurse’s mood changes so quickly and instead of insulting Romeo she says she’ll bring him here to comfort Juliet. The nurse changes so quickly, but it is so Juliet won’t stay mad at her, not out of her own will.
The Nurse is the only other person that knew about the secret relationship between Romeo and Juliet. She was sort of Juliet’s messenger in the story, she told Romeo about the marriage and when he was going to see Juliet again. Then towards the ending of the story she started realizing that Juliet’s parents were not going to let her marry anyone but Paris. So Nurse tried to help Juliet realize that, and it only made Juliet more upset and run off to Friar. When Juliet was upset she told Nurse that she was going to pay respects, nurse knew that wasn’t true and did nothing about it, if Nurse would have stopped Juliet from going to Friar she could have prevented the whole plan and stopped the events leading to Romeo and Juliet’s death. But Romeo and Juliet made it very difficult for the Nurse and Friar help them because they wanted nothing but to be together and they wouldn’t wait for anything.
It was a shock to Juliet that she didn’t support as before. The nurse played as an important role to her, however it wasn’t how Juliet was expected it was going to happen. Juliet was left on her own to make some very important decisions at the age of 15. I believe that if the Nurse had been around to help Juliet things may have turned out differently. Strangely, she advised Juliet to forget about Romeo and marry Paris, betraying Juliet’s trust by advocating a false marriage: “I think it best you married with the County. O, he’s a lovely gentleman. Romeo’s a dish clout to him”(3.5.218). Juliet can’t believe that the Nurse offers such a course of action after the Nurse praised Romeo and helped bring the couple together. She could not have gone to Lady Capulet or Lord Capulet, because they would not have understood.
The Nurse acting like a messenger, contributed to Romeo and Juliet’s death. Another reason the Nurse contributes to Romeo and Juliet’s suffering is by keeping Romeo and Juliet ’s marriage a secret from Juliet’s parents. During Act 2, in a conversation with Romeo in Friar’s cell she tells Romeo, “Is your man secret?
The nurse cared and loved Juliet, just as much as Friar Laurence did for Romeo. After the incident when Juliet’s father was furious with her for not wanting to marrying Paris, the nurse was there to comfort Juliet and offer her advice. The advice the nurse gave Juliet was, “Faith, here it is. you no use of him” (Shakespeare. 3.5.215-27). She was encouraging Juliet to marry Paris. With the help of the nurses judgement, Juliet went to Friar Laurence and they constructed a plan to fake Juliet’s death so she could be with Romeo. The nurse could have been on Juliet’s father's side and left Juliet, but she didn’t because she loves Juliet and knows that she goes
