The blame for world war one rests on many shoulders, but it weighs heaviest on Gavrilo Princip, the man who assassinated Franz Ferdinand. It didn’t just affect Princip but, many others. A lot happened during World War 1 but not only did it change things before the war but it changed life after the first world war for everyone. Many people were involved in this war whether they wanted to be or not, no one had a choice. It affected men a lot but woman more, it changed every woman’s life and some for the better. The cause of World War 1 started with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, this led to several armies and alliances nearly making the war mandatory. World War 1 was “also known as the “Great War” this is because it affected people all over the world and it’s known as the biggest war anyone had ever known. The war was fought between two very powerful groups.” (The Week, Web) It affected people in so many ways but one of the biggest reason it affected people was that weather you wanted to be part of the war or not you were part of the war. This affected men a lot more for different reasons but a big reason was because even if men didn’t want to fight in the first world war they didn’t have a choice. “More than ten million men had been drafted for military service.Once the men were trained, they had to be sent to Europe by ships.” (Marquette, 10) Even if the men didn’t want to go and leave their families behind. Death was another big effect during the war, people were dying left and right. “World War 1 also saw knew heights of killing. Terrible new weapons made was more deadly than ever. About half the 65 million men who fought were killed or wounded.” (Marquette, 5) This was very devastating for all families and woman who had lost a husband or other family member. The first world war was the first war ever known, “World war 1 was the first total war. It involved everyone who lived in the countries that fought- not just the soldiers. In Europe total war meant that even civilians could be killed by bombs dropped from planes and balloons.” (Marquette, 27) This is meaning it was everyone for themselves because there wasn't anything that you could do other than to fight and try and stop the first world
