During the 12 chapters of Grendel's demise he meets many different types of character and with Grendel starting out as a young child-like naive mindset, he is easily manipulated by other too think many different ways. By Grendel starting out as a mind that can easily have others come into his life and change the way he sees life starts off a chain of reactions that makes him create beliefs and then even just after he will go against them. If Grendel took initiative as a smart intelligible mind then he would have never had to meet new characters in his life and try and hear what they have to say. The Dragon is undoubtedly the most influential character towards Grendel. The Dragon even physically affected Grendel during chapter 8 he put a charm on Grendel that ultimately make him invincible towards weapons (Chapter 8). Also indirectly there were other characters that helped shape what Grendel became in the end. The Shaper was a very artistic and connotative character and helped Grendel look more deeper into meanings of life and such. When Grendel becomes more experimental with the way he thinks, he starts too really have a self realization of who he should be and why he needs too think critically of his choices. However it is true that the characters he meets and even just happens too notice do change the way he is as a Human/Monster. Beowulf, being the last most influential character in Grendel that ultimately affects Grendel overall as a character. In the very end Beowulf drives Grendel over to where Grendel becomes more of a Monster. At the very beginning it is easy to think of Grendel as a young minded baby and it's hard to imagine him as some sort of monster.
