Who’s to Blame for the Deaths of Romeo and Juliet? Shakespeare was the greatest play write in history. His more famous piece, “Romeo and Juliet,” is still taught in schools all over the United States, Canada, and many places in Europe. Yet, this grand play has philosophers, authors, and many others baffled. Why? It is because of the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, more specifically, who’s to blame. Well, the true people responsible, the true criminals in this case that has lasted for centuries, are none other than Romeo and Juliet themselves. In fact, the two have even set themselves up for death. In the beginning, the audience is introduced to the entirety of the plot in the prologue. It truly is magnificent, Shakespeare summarized his entire play in the beginning! But, enough complimenting the man. To be responsible for your own death, the person who died must have died from their own hand. If remembered from the prologue, it stated “Two unlucky children of these enemy families become lovers and commit suicide. Their unfortunate deaths put an end to their parents’ feud.” Juliet herself, stated numerus times in the play, if she doesn’t get the help she wants, she will kill herself. Or as she likes to put it, “God joined my heart and Romeo’s, thou our hands. And ere this hand, by thee to Romeo sealed, Shall be the label to another deed….” Or in English, I’ll kill myself. Yeah that is a lot of writing to just say “I’ll kill myself.” Back on track, in the end, when Romeo heard Juliet “died,” he went to Juliet’s grave after a quick fight with Paris, and killed himself. Juliet woke up to Romeo’s dead body lying upon her. Friar Lawrence, standing by the grave wanted her to leave, but she decided to take Romeo’s ivory dagger, and shove it in her
