Who is to Blame? Have you’ve ever been included in a major disaster and did not know who to blame? When a tragedy occurs and a numerous amount of people are involved it can be very easy to accuse another. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, it starts as a simple love story until a tragedy occurs that leaves one question, who is really at fault? Friar Laurence is truly to blame for the tragic events because he married Romeo and Juliet, he gave Juliet the plan that lead to her and Romeo’s death, and didn’t tell anyone about the events taking place. Friar Laurence is at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he not only encouraged Romeo and Juliet to marry but he was the one to marry them. “In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove…. To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (Act 2, Scene 3, Lines 90-92). Despite thinking that it is a bad idea to marry Romeo and Juliet, especially in secret, he still did it in hopes of bringing peace to the two feuding families. If the friar didn’t marry them, Juliet would not have taken risks that lead to her death, to avoid marrying Paris. Friar Laurence marrying Romeo and Juliet is just one reason for him to be considered …show more content…
“ To rouse thee from thy bed, there art thou dead….. Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift…. Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua” (Act 4, Scene 1, Lines 106, 114, 116). The friar’s plan of Juliet faking her death and then running away with Romeo had so many risks that can easily lead to their death. Both Romeo and Juliet have threatened to kill themselves if they couldn’t be with the other and the friar’s plan failed so it lead to them doing just as they threatened. To conclude, Friar Laurence is at fault for the tragedy due to his risky plan he made for Juliet and other
Friar Laurence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death because he married them secretly without anyone knowing and without their families' permission. Friar Laurence was also responsible because he gave Juliet the sleeping pills that made everyone think she was dead, but he knew otherwise instead of letting everyone know that Juliet was fine he kept it to himself. Friar Laurence felt guilty that he tried to send Romeo a letter stating that Juliet was fine and that she will recover knowing that what he did could lead to a lot of danger he gave the letter to his right hand man Friar john. Friar John was unable to send the letter to Romeo because according to him he was held captive because" The city officials suspected that he was in a house
Others would disagree of Friar Laurence being guilty because there are others who are at fault in this situation. For instance, the people may think Lord Capulet was the cause of Juliet's and Romeo's deaths for he had pushed Juliet's wedding day back making it earlier than she expected, thus she took the potion earlier and that's when all the chaos began to unfold. Another is the Nurse who has been aware of lady's Juliet secret relationship with Romeo, but didn't intervene with it. Furthermore, from what had been previously stated, the raw relationship between Capulets and your own family Lord Montague, is the blame for their deaths. From all those possible suspects, the nurse could be the culprit however she was the messenger not the developer
I think that Friar Laurence is repsonsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence's first mistake was in Act 2 when he agreed to marry the two without neither the Capulets or the Montaques permission. On monday morning,Romeo vists Friar Laurence in his cell. The Friar was skeptical because he knows that Romeo falls inlove very quickly, but then beleived that their marriage could one day reconcile their two families.
But Romeo wouldn't have been so dedicated to die with Juliet if they hadn't been married; Balthasar was just stating was he saw. Therefore, Friar Laurence is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet for giving Juliet a bad plan.
A lot, but not all of the blame can be attributed to Friar Laurence, as he made not only made 1, but 4 mistakes leading up to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The first of this is his agreement to marry Romeo and Juliet together after they have just spent one day together. His reasoning for this is that he believes that marrying the couple will solve the feud between the Montague and Capulet houses; “In one respect I’ll assistant be: For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancour to pure love.” This decision leads to many complications including Romeo not being able to tell Tybalt he has married his cousin, which ultimately leads to Mercutio’s death. The second mistake was his plan to give Juliet poison which put her to sleep with a almost non-existent pulse for 48 hours, in order for her to avoid marrying Paris. A more simpler plan would have been suggesting that the two lovers run away together rather than entrusting Juliet - an unstable 14 year old girl - with a potion that makes her look dead. He shows his irresponsibility when
Normally, Priests are resourceful and wise, however this was not the case. In the play Romeo and Juliet By William Shakespeare, Friar Laurence is the true culprit for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence made many faulty and awful decisions throughout the play; His participation in the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, giving Juliet the poison, sending another person to deliver the letter, and abandoning Juliet at the Tomb had led up to their death.
Friar Laurence is the one to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet’s. He is the one to blame because he gave Juliet a fake potion which made her pass out for a couple of hours and he didn’t let Romeo know. According to the Friar Laurence, “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, the letter was not just a nice greeting. It was full of very important information. It’s very dangerous that it hasn’t been sent. Friar john, go and get me an iron crowbar. Bring it straight back to my cell (act 5, scene 2)”. Therefore, Friar Laurence had something to do with Romeo and Juliet death.
Almost every tragedy has someone to blame. in the story Romeo and Juliet, Romeo kills himself because friar laurence and, friar john didn’t deliver his note in time, so romeo poisoned himself because the note with the information on it didnt get to him.
Who’s to blame and who should be excused from this tragedy in the Romeo and Juliet love story? Romeo thought Juliet was dead and he then killed himself with poison that would actually kill him and Juliet was left alone because Friar's plan didn’t get to Romeo. Everyone except Romeo and Friar Lawrence thought that Juliet was going to get married to Paris after Nurse convinced her that Romeo wasn’t good for her. Romeo and Juliet are two teenagers who are in love and while everyone else would disapprove of the relationship they looked for help to find their happy ending and unfortunately this ended in a terrible tragedy because of one message not getting delivered. There were only two people who knew about the forbidden relationship and Friar
The first reason on how Friar Laurence had impact on Romeo and Juliet’s death is because he thought their marriage would stop rivalry between the family. In Document C, the author states “For this alliance may so happy prove --- To turn your households’ rancor to pure love.” Friar Laurence thinks that if Romeo, who is a Montague, marries Juliet, a Capulet, the two families might come together and that’s where he went wrong. The priest (Friar Laurence) already knows how strong the hatred is that runs deep through both the Capulet and Montague families but he thinks nothing of it. Friar Laurence doesn’t see anything wrong with it because he thinks their marriage would stop feud that runs within the family.
In some tragic situations multiple people get blamed for the outcome. The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers who end up dying for each other and at the same time ending a feud with both of their families. Shakespeare reveal through his characters perfectly how multiple people are to blamed to certain circumstances. In my opinion Romeo and Juliet are the least to blame, the friar and nurse are more to blame, but the parents are the most to blame.
The first reason that makes Friar Laurence responsible for this tragedy is his laziness. The Friar was suppose to give the letter to Romeo and promise Juliet to do so but he did not keep his promise. When Romeo found
The Friar was the one who came up with the idea to fake Juliet's death and gave her the potion. Instead of talking her out of a bad idea, he influences it. The Friar just wanted to make Juliet happy, and he already married her to Romeo. He knows that she will be unhappy if she marries Paris, so he tries to get her out of it. "Ah, Juliet, I already know thy grief; It strains me past the compass of my wits", said Friar (1073). The Friar couldn't do much, but he really cared about her so he would have given the best way he could to get out of the marriage. Right after Romeo is banished, Romeo believes that he is nothing and is worthless. The Friar starts to tell him everything he should be thankful for and the good about him. If the Friar was trying to hurt Romeo or Juliet he wouldn't try to help them so much to save their marriage and relationship. He always give caring responses to help them get through something. The Friar is not the best person to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. There are better reasons to blame the family feud and Lord
Friar Laurence is not at fault for their deaths because even though he got them married, it wasn’t his idea to get them married. It was Romeo and Juliet’s idea to get married, they just asked Friar Laurence if he would marry them. Also, it was not Friar Laurence’s fault that Romeo could not receive the letters informing him about Juliet and the potion. Friar Laurence had thought he sent the letters with another Friar, but that Friar was not able to get them to Romeo because of a plague going around. If Friar Laurence knew this would have happened, he would have figured out a different way to get the letters to Romeo. Therefore, Romeo is to blame for his and Juliet’s death since he let his emotions get the best of him. Romeo at the beginning was a desperate, sorrowful lover of Rosaline, who did not like him. He then falls in love all over again once he lays his eyes on his new-found love, Juliet, even though he was just grieving over Rosaline. He meets Juliet at the Capulets party, which he was not planning on attending, but Mercutio and Benvolio made him go to get his mind off Rosaline. When he meets Juliet, he immediately falls in love with her and says, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!/ For I ne’er saw true beauty till this
At the end of the play, both Romeo and Juliet are dead. Their death was the result of many different events and decisions, however Friar Laurence is most to blame. Friar Laurence's lack of understanding for the full situation, his laziness and him being unwatchful evidently led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Now, I know what your thinking, Friar Laurence was trying to help Romeo and Juliet the entire play! While he was trying to help all he was doing was making mistakes and making things worse for them.
