Bangde Fu (Annie) Title of Article: “Q&A: Why a Rested Brain Is More Creative” Link: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/q-a-why-a-rested-brain-is-more-creative/ Brain Blog This article completely opens my eyes to the definition and importance of “rest.” Rest is when you free yourself from daily activities that cause you stress. It is also activities you do to receive a break from your daily fixed routines. It is common for people to categorize rest as a “leftover activity,” which it is not. I find it intriguing that “rest,” doesn’t have to be submissive or passive. For example, if you tend to be a hermit crab that stays home to do work, then a long walk around the park or even going for an intense run will allow your mind to wander
Rest and meal periods are intended to allow employees to rest and relax. Rest and meal periods must be taken by the employee. Rest and meal periods are scheduled
In Timothy Keller's Every Good Endeavor, we learn in chapter one, "The Design of Work,” that work is not a necessary evil, but a necessity to survive and a key to living a full life. Work allows us to discover our talents, abilities, and gifts in order to help us better understand who we are. Keller also pointed out the importance of rest. While we should not mistake our days of rest as days of laziness and work as a burdensome command, we should neither allow work to rule over our lives either. God designed us to work, to have jobs, but He also designed us to rest. He designed us for rest not simply to strengthen us back up for the job again, but because He too rested. Rest and what we do while we rest is a life-giving experience, while work
In the article “To Stay on Schedule, Take a Break”, Phyllis Korkki wrote about how taking a regular break could improve mental concentration, while skipping a break could lead to stress and exhaustion. According to my own experience, I agreed with the author that taking a regular break could improve productivity and creativity. Especially, after taking a break that involves movement allows me not only to stay focused on my work, but also came up with a better solution. I think that taking a break gave my brain a chance to reconsider my work more clearly, whether I am writing an essay or solving a math problem. Everytime after I took a break, I always came up with a better idea, either on how to form an essay paragraph or solving a math equation.
The advice I would give to anyone who struggle to rest, would be a lesson on keeping the Sabbath as commanded in the creation week (Genesis 2:2-3). Reminding him/her that if we are to be effective leaders we must be able to hear the voice of God, we cannot hear his voice if we don’t spend time with him. Referring them to the Muller’s quote, “All of life requires a rhythm of rest…” this is spiritual, as well as physical.
Sleep is undoubtedly one of the most essential requirements for the human body to function properly. It plays a very important role in ensuring the wellness of the human body both physically as well as mentally. In fact, the importance of sleep is clear from the fact that it helps you in maintaining a good lifestyle throughout our entire lifetime. Not only does it help maintain our physical and mental health; rather it also helps in maintaining a decent and healthy lifestyle along with ensuring safety from a number of fatal diseases. It is usually said that the mood in which you wake up is largely dependent on the type of sleep you have been in. This in itself is a big proof of the importance of sleep in our lives. While sleeping, our body finally gets its share of rest and it also gets ample time in rejuvenating from all the wear and tear that it went through during the entire day. Not only this, the body is in its own working condition when we are sleeping as this is the time when it supports the healthy functioning of the brain as well as physical attributes of our body.
In this paper, I will be talking about an average night’s rest cycle and how an absence of rest can affect one’s capacity to learn and that individual’s wellbeing. Rest assumes a crucial part healthy and prosperity. Lack of sleep is connected to diminish physical wellbeing, psychological well-being, and scholastic execution.
This is why I chose to write my dimension of wellness paper on the occupational dimension of wellness. To be healthy in the occupational dimension of wellness is to seek to have a career that is interesting, enjoyable, meaningful and contribute to society. I do believe my work is interesting, enjoyable and meaningful, however it is a high stress and high pressure situation. Due to this, I need to incorporate more ways to destress after work. Currently I work eight hours a day, Monday through Friday. I also go to school for eight hours a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings. My husband and I as well are taking classes to become foster and adoptive parents. We go to this class every Saturday for three hours and includes nearly four hours of homework per week. This leaves very little time in a week for leisure activities. In order to keep myself in optimal health to better care for my patients and be more productive at my job, I need to find more work life
It also showed me that it can become quite dangerous even life threatening. I now see its extremely important to let your body get rest so the circadian rhythms can happen as they should. The body doesn’t react positively to sleep deprivations. As stated earlier circadian rhythms assist with many other bodily functions such as body temperature. Not allowing these functions to reboot properly have a negative effect on the body. Personally, I love getting a good night rest and the articles I’ve found have only deepened my respect for the art of sleeping. The benefits far out way any other things that could come from not allowing yourself to rest.
“ you guys over sleep ? any day. ” sometimes that’s why he finds himself awake so late into the night. though the vice of his own stresses and daily struggles squeeze him mercilessly, he always wants to be there for one of them. zack would skip a nap or cut off an hour of sleep if they needed company. typically, at least one other person is on at night. there isn’t always a reason. they’re TEENAGERS, a sleep schedule is almost unheard of, but the burden on their shoulders further worsen the issue. he damn near POUTS as jason finds amusement in the WORRY. “ you reeeeally had me worried there for a second, jace. ” an obnoxious sigh os relief escapes, body seemingly RELAXING. “ yeah, we have been doing good
Dancers possess a dualistic lifestyle, always having to administer a balanced attention towards their academic courses and dancing careers. With so much to do in the short time of one day, it can seem overwhelming to constantly attempt to balance college life, dancing, and time for leisure, rest, and relaxation. Through trial and error I have managed to create a system which (more or less) helps me complete a hard week’s worth of work, however, there is always room for improvement. While reading the chapter “Rest and Recovery”, I noticed that some aspects of my schedule need adjusting and I need to implement more time for non-physical and centering activities such as meditation. The major problems I noted after completing the reading are my
The definition for rest is “to stop being active for a period of time in order to relax and get back your strength, or to cause someone or something to stop doing an activity in order to get back strength” (Cambridge). The definition for sleep is “resting state in which the body is not active and the mind is unconscious” (Cambridge). Words have more than one meaning; in many poems rest may mean “rest in peace” which means death. Another example of death is in the word sleep. In some areas in the bible, sleep represents death.
The capacity to be creative, to produce new concepts, ideas, inventions, objects or art, is perhaps the most important attribute of the human brain. We know very little, however, about the nature of creativity or its neural basis. Some important questions include: how should we define creativity? How is it related (or unrelated) to high intelligence? What psychological processes or environmental circumstance cause creative insights to occur? How is it related to conscious and unconscious processes? What is happening at the neural level during moments of creativity? How is it related to health or illness, and especially mental illness?
The scientific article, “Inspired by Distraction: Mind Wandering Facilitates Creative Incubation”, by Benjamin Baird, Jonathon Smallwood, Michael D. Mrazek, Julia W. Y. Kam, Michael S. Franklin, and Jonathon W. Schooler (2012) focuses on creative thoughts and mind wandering. The article uses the incubation paradigm, where performance is measured by a UUT (Unusual Uses Task) and if it can be aided by a demanding task or an undemanding task that boosts mind wandering.
In this essay I will explore the correlation between intelligence (IQ) and creativity (DT), and whether one is influenced or can be predicted by the existence of the other. The relationship between IQ (intelligence quotient) and creativity has been an anchor point for psychological research. Numerous amounts of psychologists have carried out research in order to find evidence to support this idea of a correlation or evidence to disprove the hypothesis that IQ and creativity could be related.
Relaxation is necessary in one’s day to day active life. A person must work hard but his energy is limited, and if he spends too much of it he will soon feel tired. Even a machine cannot work for a long time at a stretch and it is given rest at regular intervals, otherwise it gets out of order. To move out of our daily hectic schedule life or more specific to relax, we need to perform several activities of our choice to get relax, which also provide amusement, benefit to us. Some of them that I follow are dancing, swimming and watching movies or watching Television.
