Why Are Creation Myths Important?

Creation stories/myths are defined as narratives that are very symbolic to different cultures and traditions. Although myths may be highlighted as non-factual information, there are different cultures that consider creation myths to be true. In just about every culture, creation myths are a starting point as to how and when the world emerged. Creation stories have been in existence since the 10th century BC as stated in the chapter of Genesis referred in the Holy Bible. Now let’s refer to some of the notable creation myths from the ancient times. In the Islamic creation myth, references from the Qur’an, the Holy Book for Muslims, stated that Allah (God for Muslims) had created the Earth. It states that the process of this creation took about 6 days: 4 days for the blessing of the mountains and all the needs and wants (food, clothing, shelter etc.) and 2 days for creating the …show more content…

For me, Islam is important because not only does it make me realize that I’m a Muslim but it also makes me realize that most of the miracles happen from the Qur’an itself. Islamic myths help me understand of what the five pillars of Islam are. They also show me of who risked his life and sacrifice to make Islam relevant to all Muslims. In the present world, Muslims still travel to the city of Makkah (or Mecca) to visit the “Black Cube”, also known as the Kaaba. Over here, the Kaaba is a very symbolic house, that was created for Allah. At least once a year, Muslims from around the world travel to this place, if they can afford to, and praise Allah.
