Why are Eating Disorders Important? People need to be aware of people that are sensitive about how they eat or how much they eat, because it could really affect them physically and mentally. Eating disorders can be developed any time and can be fatal if not treated. Eating disorders are a very important illness and need to be treated. Many people think that they need to look a certain way to fit in and can lose their dignity if they think they are overweight, and start habits that are hard to stop. Anorexia Nervosa is when people starve themselves and cause themself to reach an unhealthy weight that is too low. They become overly careful about their body image and how much they weigh. They think that they are too fat causing them to stop eating so that they will become skinny. Some warning signs of Anorexia are dramatic weight loss and being overly obsessed of how much calories you're eating. The second kind of disorder is Bulimia Nervosa. Bulimia Nervosa is when you have periods when you binge and is usually followed by self-induced vomiting. Bulimia Nervosa is very unhealthy because it ruins your digestive system and can lead to electrolyte and chemical imbalances in the body that affect the heart. An eating disorder is a compulsion to avoid eating in order to lose weight while a diet is cutting down eating or healthier eating in order to lose weight.
