When talking about Zoos some people think they are positive while others think they are negative for the animals. I think zoos are bad because animals do not live as long in them and they do not get a wild habitat. The first reason I think zoos are negative is because they reproduce to much. In the text it says if the animals reproduce to many times they have to send some of the animals into the wild and some of the population would start dieing off. This proves zoos are negative because it kills to many animals. Another reason I think zoos are bad is because the animals are deprived from air, sunlight, and companionship. One example from the text is, say people send 100 animals out of a zoo and put them into the wild and over half of the
Zoos have been around for 4,000 years, for many years people have gone to zoos to see wild animals up close. What people do not know is animals don't have the best interest in being in a zoo. The article, "Zoos: The Historical Debate" from Globalanimal.org discusses some pros (positive sides) and cons (negative sides) of zoos. As well as how millions of people visit zoos around the world and how some argue that zoos are either places of education and conversation or unnecessary prisons. After reading the article a logical conclusion is zoos are detrimental to animals.
Zoos have always been criticized because some claim that animals are being abused and mistreated due to the lack and care of certain zoos. However, zoos actually help many animals with research and are critically important for conservation purposes. People need to understand that zoos have programs that breed endangered animals as well as rescue programs for exotic animals that people are no longer able to support. Also, they have many hands on activities that allow people to get more connected to animals. In addition, zoos do not only focus on animals. They focus on environmental problems/concerns as well. Zoos help us stay educated about environmental impacts and animal care.
She claims that while zoos are not necessary for education, the “educative message delivered by zoos is, at best, distorted and, at worst, damaging to the cause that the zoos purport to champion—that is; the conservation of species.” Because she does not consider the educational opportunities and programs that zoos and zoological parks can offer, so her opinion on these establishments is unfavorable. However, by offering a wide variety of programs and opportunities, zoos create a unique experience for their visitors. If the animals are under proper care, there is no reason for society to believe that zoos are “cruel and
According to the text “Do Animals Lose in Zoos?” zoos spend millions of dollars to create bigger and better animal enclosures in order to to improve the conditions for the animals. Zoos also help to raise millions of dollars to support conservation projects in Africa and Asia. Nevertheless not all zoos are the same some organizations like PETA, oppose zoos because the “homes” made for zoo animals only meet their basic needs. So all the critics won't have reasons to hate on zoos because they are building better and bigger exhibits.
One of the most fun, visually amazing functions to visit are zoo's. Growing up as a kid going to the zoo was so much fun and basically guaranteed a great day out. People have been complaining and questioning the role of zoo's for a long time now. Some claim that it actually kills the animals off faster. Others claim that zoo's actually help protect and preserve the lives of these animals. Only one can make a reasonable argument by studying sources, and finding out statistics. Based off of the articles, "The Stripes Will Survive", "The Zoos Go Wild", and "Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment", we can truly get in-depth analysis about the role zoo's play.
Zoos may seem fun to visit and exciting to see the animals; but what you don’t see is the suffering and depression that lies in these helpless creatures. There are many arguments whether or not zoos are good or bad, and if they should be removed or kept. Several think that zoos should be abolished or at least very much improved, due to animal cruelty. While, others want zoos to stay because it is beneficial for the animals and people. I strongly believe that zoos aren’t good for both the public and animals for numerous reasons.
Are animals safe in zoos? Are zoos main priority profit, and not animal welfare, therefore capitalizing on breeding, buying, and selling animals? There are many pros and many cons of animals being kept in zoos. A couple of those pros and perspectives are, conducting research, education and conservation opportunities for the animals. While also, zoos providing many benefits to animals that normally would have not received them, such as training. On the flip side, there are a couple cons. Some of the perspectives of the cons, are zoos posing risks that affect animals and how zoos take their toll on the mental conditions of animals, dictating behavior of some animals and ultimately the animal’s welfare. I will touch on these pros and cons throughout the paper and will be considering different varieties of perspectives, and ultimately concluding on my thoughts of animals being kept in zoos. Are animals safe in zoos? That’s been a question many people are trying to answer.
Conclusion: In conclusion, zoos are bad for animals because of the bad effects and mistreatment it has caused on animals.
Some people go to zoos to see the wild animals, but that’s not all that they are for. People in groups such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) may think that zoos cannot provide the needs to wild animals as the wild can. Zoos help animals. They have improved, helping to repopulate species and save animals in the wild.
To begin with, zoos must stay because it educates people. As mentioned in the text, “He says zoos play a major role in educating people about animals and promoting wildlife conservation.” In other words, the man explained that zoos educate people and teach them new things about animals that they haven’t known before. Furthermore, humans get an opportunity to view animals they never saw before. What the animal does can allow people to study animals and learn new things. Therefore, zoos are a requirement in our society considering humans get educated about animals.
A question that has been debated for a very long time is, are zoos good or bad for animals? People have there opinions, and they back up their opinions with facts, facts that are true, but there are always facts for each side of the argument. Zoos have been around for over a hundred years and they have been adored and despised by many people. In the United States alone they have about 180 million visitors a year. Something about see animals in real life draws the attention of society. These articles i'm going to talk about on the positives and negatives of zoos display the nature of zoos that value their animals, and those that don't, and also with the problem of HAC (human animal conflict).
Imagine going to the zoo. Getting to see all sorts of unique animals. But has anyone wondered if the zoo is helping animals or is it the opposite? People had despised zoos for animal captivity and complained that zoos should be illegal. Why is that? Other’s imagine animals in a cramped cage as they are treated poorly, but that is not the case. Zoos had existed for a while and they have been helping animals ever since. Zoos should not be illegal because it keeps all animals safe and well fed, is very educational for kids, and prevents animals from extinction.
Some associations are claiming that zoos should be banned because it’s having negative impact on the animals. They reject the idea that zoos are made to preserve some species from extinction. Their argument is that if zoos were really made for that solely purpose then the species in the zoos will not be kept for public viewing. These associations propose
There have been a lot of problems with animals in zoos. It has gotten to the point where zoos are hated and looked upon as a places of animal torture. Are zoos really that bad? Turns out, they are. They do not have enough space, they do not allow the animals to communicate with each other, and they sell the animals to cruel circuses.
Some people agree that animals should be kept in the zoo. They said it would be safer for the animals and they won’t be extinct. The amount of possibilities of them dying, shot by hunters or any other reason, still higher than the chances of their survival. Food and shelter are provided, medicine, and their breeding is being controlled. And many of the wild animals in zoos are ones that are on the endangered list as their amounts are rapidly diminishing. Letting them loose and returning them to the wild is not necessarily a safe option. (Mylot, 2007) In fact, zoo can be one of the educational studies for children and people who are interested with animals. Zoo is the only place that we can have an opportunity to see animal’s life really close and sometimes we can touch them. Zoos also provide lots of information about certain animals, children can have chance to get out of the classroom and learn so they can see natural beauty from different species of animals. Even children can see them from discovery channel but that’s really different if you see animal in real world, for an example, if you see crocodile, snake or shark in the movie, maybe you won’t afraid than you see the real one. According to Tudge, (1992, p.56) Zoos are the place where people can study animals and their habitat, even scientist don’t need to go
