Introduction
The equality between men and women is an integral part of human rights, it is also a prerequisite for democracy and social justice. Any democratic state seeks to promote gender equality in all spheres of life. Despite the creation of a strong legal framework to ensure the principle of equality of both sexes, the gap between men and women about their capabilities remains significant (Pomeroy, 72).
One of the criteria of gender equality is equal pay for men and women. As of 2013, the average salary of women in the world is 38.7% of the average wage of men. Thus, the history of women's struggle for their rights has more than four centuries, but tangible results have been achieved only in the 20th century. Today, in most countries, a woman has equal rights with a man, but vestiges of inequality have not yet been finally overcome (Sweet, 185).
Employment Asymmetry
Gender asymmetry in employment is expressed through a series of social phenomena: reducing the level of women's economic activity, rising unemployment among women, the marginalization of female professionals (formation of the status of secondary importance, insignificance - the almost complete absence of women in politics and in the higher state organs, including senior management of large companies), violation of labor rights of women in hiring and firing (Phillips, 82).
According to statistics, men are better off than women when it comes to the practicalities of getting a decent salary. The average salary of women is only slightly more than 65% of the average male wage. Even in the budget sector with low levels of pay, the wages for men are higher than for women because men hold the majority of leadership positions (for example, in the healthcare system, men dominate as the chief physicians, department heads and leading specialists).
