Introduction Sector Definition The term “Accommodation” can be defined in many ways, the Merriam Webster Dictionary defines it as “a place (such as a room in a hotel) where travelers can sleep and find other services” (2014), however, anyone that has ever travelled can tell you that accommodation is much more than that. The word itself comes from the Latin ‘accommodare’, meaning, ‘to fit one thing to another’. It entered the English language in the 17th century and now describes a thriving sector in an ever-growing industry. Today, five hundred years later, the accommodation sector has become one of the largest and fastest growing sectors in the tourism industry. It is the largest group for employment following Food and Beverage Services and offers a wide variety of career opportunities as well as products and services.
