In Asia, most parents do not allow children to spend too much time on sports. It is not because they do not want their children to be healthy, but they would try their best to force children to focus on studying in order to be a good student instead of an athlete. In Asia, being a good student has become a normal standard for teenagers. A majority of parents even think being a good student is the only way to success. That’s exactly what the social environment is in Asia. Because of this, there are so many talents in different field that have been buried. During my childhood, I would say I was so lucky that I could be very different from other children and get into sport by some unique reasons. When I was a little kid, I was diagnosed with some nose problems. Unlike other children, I could only breathe half of normal oxygen during the same normal breathing period. To my knowledge, I didn 't even know I was sick because I didn’t feel the way others feel and had no idea what “normal” is until I was yelling about my headache when I woke up in one morning. And then, I had a body check. The doctor suggested I try to do some exercises in order to stop sleeping without breathing enough oxygen. “Swimming is the best choice for you” he strongly recommended. That words completely changed my life. After that, my father took me to the closest swimming pool, and began to teach me how to swim. It’s been debated that having kids participate in sports can be either a positive or negative factor in a child’s development. Is participating in sports a positive outcome in a youth’s development? Through my own personal experience and through the research that I have conducted I believe that participating in sports is a true benefit to a child’s development.
