There were very few odd results that appeared. Some of the oddities that appeared is that some of the soils did not grow plants. Another unexpected result that I observed is that some of the plants grew significantly later in time. Some of the plants also grew slower than some of the other corn plants. One of the plants began to grow and then started to die slowly and decrease in height. A large majority of the plants grew healthy and then started to wither, the leaves of the corn seed turned a yellowish brown. One plant grew better than the others it was taller and the stem was thicker.
The writer speculates on possible explanations for unexpected results. The seed could not have sprouted possibly because the seed was faulty and was never
The experiment started in March where several tractors were brought onto the farm to line the land. Two months after preparing, the farm was lined, and corn seeds were scattered
According to David Whiting (CSU Extension, retired) plant needs 17 nutrients in order for it to grow. The plant that grew properly received those 17 nutrients while the seeds that did not grow a centimeter and became dark in color did not receive the 17 nutrients. The plant that grew 14 cm was in an area where it is unpolluted. The areas have to be clean, free from pollution in order for a plant to grow. The plants die if the area is much polluted.
Keeping in mind your answer to the previous question, what do you believe caused the corn plants to wilt and eventually die?
When Jesus Came, The Corn Mothers Went Away gives an in-depth history of the Pueblo Indians before and after the Spanish conquest. It describes the forced changes the Spanish brought to the Indians, and also the changes brought to the Spaniards who came to “civilize” the Indians. The author's thesis is that the Pueblo Indians and other Indians were treated cruelly by the Spanish, who justified their crime by claiming they were civilizing an
One of the biggest conflicts in Where The Red Fern Grows is Billy's love for puppies and the amount of money his family has. Billy's family is extremely poor and Billy is at the age where he wants coonhounds to go hunting. Not only does Billy want one coonhound, but he wants two. Billy begs his parents to get him his dogs, but they say no because they do not have enough money. When Billy hears this news he is crushed, that does not stop him from getting his dogs. Billy took this matter into his own hands and started saving up enough money to buy the two dogs. The pups cots 25 dollars each so he had to save up 50 dollars in total. Earning this money took him two long years of hard, exhausting work. An example from the text that supports the
The corn seems to retain more CO2 being a C4 plant while the pea is a C3. This could be the possibility which corn stays green mostly. The corn plant is more exposed to oxygen. The corn seems to be absent of a enzyme which is used in the C4 plant to go through photosynthesis. The enzyme seems to be used when there are somewhat bad conditions so this means the corn has better conditions of survival. The differ in the enzymes which they used while they are the same in the sense that they both still go through the process of
Corn was domesticated and first cultivated in the Central Valley of Mexico approximately six thousand years ago. Corn ultimately became the primary staple of people throughout Mesoamerica. Trading with other groups of indigenous peoples propelled the movement of the crop northward to what is known today as the United States. First there was movement to the American southwest then it proceeded to the eastern coastal region. Native Americans usually planted corn, beans, and squash together in the same field. This is a technique known as intercropping. The technique that Native Americans used was actually quite simple as well as returned nutrients to the soil. A hole was dug using a planting stick. Corn, bean, and squash seeds would then be dropped into the opening along with the head of a fish for fertilizer. The corn would be the first to begin to grow. The beans were the next. As they grew, they would twine around the corn stalk. As the squash grew, it provided shelter for the earth, which helped to keep moisture in the soil. These three crops planted together returned nitrogen to the soil, which maintained its quality. Eating corn, beans, and squash
Because each group only did 2 bags for each GA concentration there is not enough results collected. When an experiment like this is carried out, it becomes obvious that more information is needed than was collected. This is due to the randomness of plants. Since you can in no way control the germination of seeds, it means that all the seeds may germinate slowly or quickly, because of something like temperature. Because of this, the experiment would need to be carried out during different times of the year and so forth. Another way that the experiment’s method could have been improved is if a better way of recording the results of the experiments was used. The results table used to record any information was hard to get access to and there was also different ways the results were written. Some groups wrote down the number of germinations each day, while other groups wrote down the number of germination which had taken place from the beginning of the
Michael Pollan describes that ecologically corn can be grown in a safer way that doesn’t kill of the earths fossil fuels. In old times, corn was grown by using fertility drawn from the sun, but this way took a lot of time because the process was being naturally made and the serving size was exceptionally smaller. Since America wants everything grander, faster, and cheaper, factories are the way to go. Factories give occupations to the lower class and fuel the countries wants and needs but by doing so Michael Pollen declares that the factories are burning out toxins into the air and it cause pollution.
Corn is a food eaten throughout the world. It is easy to produce and cheap so that in the past it has composed a large part of the diet of the poor who could not afford other foods. The consumption of corn as ones main food source can cause health problems due to a deficiency of the B vitamin niacin that if not treated can lead to insanity and even death. This paper will attempt to present a brief history of pellagra, concentrating primarily on the twentieth century American south, and discussing the causes of the disease, its progression in the human body and treatment.
Lamium maculatum tends to stand taller in the spring and flatten to the ground in colder weather. If subject to light frost, plants will recover as they begins a new growth cycle.
I chose this commodity because it was easy to follow. I sometimes already do follow the corn market. We produce this commodity on our farm and the price will affect our profit or our financial stability. The economic factors that affects this are weather in other countries that produce a bunch of corn, or if there is a disease in the crop, and if some countries stop buying this commodity. If the President messes with the trade agreement with the other countries, it could mess with the price. If there is a drought in the midwest,It could wipe out all of the corn crop.
Tension started when the Corn Laws were enforced in 1815, this imposed restrictions and tariffs on imported grain, corn, flour, and meal. The Corn Laws were designed by conservatives to keep grain prices high to favor domestic producers thus, food prices rose and riots throughout the city of London began to break out. The Corn Laws enhanced the profits and political power associated with landownership. The government directly regulated the import and export of grain, making it more expensive to produce and trade grains grown by local farmers. In 1839, the Anti-Corn Law League was established to fight against England’s Corn Laws. The league mobilized the industrial middle classes against the landlords. During the grain shortage caused by Britain growing population and the blockades imposed by the Napoleonic Wars, the Corn Laws were repealed in 1846.
When people tell you that you can't do something, that doesn't mean they're right. If you want to do something, do it. Don't let someone tell you what you can or can't do. In Teresa Sendra Aganosts short story "The Seed" from Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul 2 a girl named Teresa wants to grow an orange tree, but, she lives in New York. Everyone says she can't but that doesn't mean she won't try. This short story teaches readers that you can do anything if you belive in yourself.
In order for a seed to germinate, many conditions must be met. Firstly a seed must be viable. If a seed is viable it require a suitable environment with proper levels of moisture, suitable temperatures, oxygen, fertile soil, and proper pH levels to name a few. However, as many of us have experienced, some viable (living) seeds will NOT germinate, even when given the perfect conditions. In the field of botany, this phenomenon is known as “physiological seed dormancy” (will be referred to as PSD from here on out). In plain language, PSD is like a “hibernation” stage that occurs after seed maturation but before germination.
