June 6th, 1945, Adolf Hitler stepped down from the plane that brought him from Berlin to Washington D.C. In the oval office, Harry Truman signed the document that brought on the unconditional surrender of the United States to Nazi Germany. Some might call it crazy, but Adolf Hitler could have won World War 2 if it had not been for the death of one man. The man who could have ensured a Nazi victory was General Walther Wever, an unwavering advocate for large bomber aircraft. So, if such a man who could have ensured Hitler’s victory had lived, how would this have changed modern history? Walther Wever was instigated into the newly formed Luftwaffe shortly after Adolf Hitler came to power and had the organization formed. It was from the first belief in World War 1 that an air force should only be used in support of ground troops and not as an independent force. Wever disagreed with this as did many other innovative aviation figures in other countries during the 1930s. He adopted the ideas of Giulio Douhet who believed that any future war would be waged in the air, independent of the ground forces. This included the idea of …show more content…
With USSR being the big country that it was, they could easily move their industry away from the front lines and out of the Luftwaffe’s range. Again, Wever’s idea of using strategic bombing would have won out. With the range and the payload to seriously disrupt communication, transportation, and war production, German strategic bombers could have razed the USSR to the ground. With its sole remaining ally signing the conditions of surrender in the east, America finally entered the war on December 7, 1941 with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Hitler, eager to defeated his last opponent, declares war shortly after, leaving America to face off against two battle tested super
Adolf Hitler and his actions are the cause of World War II. “Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who don't want to fight in this world of eternal struggle they don't deserve to live, ” by Adolf Hitler. This is an important quote since Hitler believed in the power of war. His parents died when he was young, so he went into the army very young and fought in World War I.
The defeat of Germany in World War Two was due to many factors. All of these factors were influenced by the leadership and judgment of Adolf Hitler. Factors such as the stand fast policy, Hitler's unnecessary and risky decision making in military situations, for example when attacking the USSR, and the declaration of war on the US. Plus other factors, like Hitler's alliance with Italy, despite its obvious weaknesses, and the pursuit of the final solution, can all be attributed to the poor leadership and judgement of the Fuhrer, which would eventually lead to the downfall of the Third Reich.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than 2,000 American lives were lost, as well as 187 aircraft and 18 naval vessels. This tragedy finally brought the United States into World War II on the side of the Allies. The United States, Great Britain, and The Soviet Union became The Big Three. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin headed these countries, respectively.
“Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval plus the air forces of the Empire of Japan.” The bombing of Pearl Harbor was the start of America’s entrance into the Second World War. Just before 08:00 on the Sunday morning, hundreds of fighter planes descended onto the naval base incapacitating almost 20 naval vessels along with over 300 airplanes. The attack on Pearl Harbor also killed over 2,400 Americans
That is not how things turned out, instead, it just began the Cold War. What ended World War II was Germany surrendering after Hitler had killed himself, not the bombing and invasion of the Japanese, even though after the invasion by the Soviet Union they did surrender. “Secretary of State James Byrnes, however, wanted to drop the bomb without any warning to shock Japan into surrendering.” (Document I) We did give warning to Japan about the attack. The Potsdam conference, which led to the Potsdam declaration stated that Japan surrender from the war immediately or consequences will be made by America. After reading this declaration, Japan requested only that the Emperor remain on his throne and Sovereign of Japan. The United States denied this request, and Japan ignored the declaration. And, Through using the atomic bomb, horror swept not over just Japan, but the entire world. “The military advantages and the saving of American lives achieved by the sudden use of atomic bombs against Japan may be outweighed by the ensuing loss of confidence and by a wave of horror and repulsion sweeping over the rest of the world…” (Document C) This causes the Japanese people to become victims, for their tragedy caused every nation to be frightened of America's advanced technology and power. Nations were scared of getting dragged into World War II already, now they have another
In the year 1939, tensions between eastern countries led to the start of the second world war. Eastern countries were beginning to invade one another due to results of the Treaty of Versailles such as poverty and loss of diplomatic power. Japan began growing rapidly and causing many military and diplomatic problems. In 1941, Japan organized an attack on the United States naval base of Pearl Harbor. The US was outraged. Bringing and end to the horrid war was the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan in 1945. Although some historians argue that the decision made by the United States to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima was a military measure to force Japan’s surrender and end the war, it was actually a
For six agonizing years, the world was at a point of great strife. Considered a turning point of the century, World War II consisted of the Axis powers-Italy, Japan, and Germany-and the Allies-United States, Great Britain, France, China, and the Soviet Union. The war initially started when Germany invaded Poland in 1939, but the United States did not declare war until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. In order to put an end to any further bloodshed, the United States decided to drop the newly invented atomic bomb. The use of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified due to the numerous lives spared, ending the merciless Japanese soldiers terrorization of Chinese innocents and American prisoners of war, as well as
America came into WW11 after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor (K) in 1941, and the war between Japan and the USA ended when the atomic bombs were dropped in 1945. Japan had a very strong army, which had an estimated 5 million men (B). The Japanese troops believed it was honourable to die for ones country, and made use of Kamikaze pilots as one of their war tactics (B). The use of the Kamikaze pilots by Japan caused extensive damage to Americas sea going forces, and because death was glorified, the American troops had no means to fight them. There had already been over 3 500 Kamikaze raids which had caused great damage to the American
This investigation will explore the question: Was Hitler’s greatest reason for starting World War II to create a Master Race or to regain Germany’s lost territory? From years 1889 to 1945 will be the focus of this investigation, to allow for an analysis of Hitler’s greatest reason to start World War I.
The last conference to happen was the Potsdam Conference in Potsdam, Germany to negotiate the end of World War II. This conference however had a change of leaders. While it was still Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt had passed away several months previously and Harry Truman was the new President of the United States. This conference was a continuance of the Yalta conference in splitting up the countries and to decide what was to be done with Germany now that the war was over. While they thought they had closed the deal with what would happen to, Germany with Roosevelt, Truman had changed his mind. What they had previously agreed on didn’t work for Truman so they had to come up with something else. The alternatives that
‘From the first day that he "seized power," January 30, 1933, Hitler knew that only sudden death awaited him if he failed to restore pride and empire to post-Versailles Germany.’[1] The Second World War was the deadliest battle in History. Figures estimate that over 59 million people were killed during its conflict. German leadership was under Adolf Hitler, a ruthless dictator who was the chancellor of Germany during the majority of the conflict. It is debatable that Hitler was solely responsible for the events in which lead to and occurred during the Second World War. Hitler was responsible to a large degree, however cannot be accountable for every aspect in which the
It is interesting to think about what hypothetical situations could have occurred that would have changed the outcome of the second world war. Imagine living in a current time where Nazi Germany ruled the free world. That what if somewhere along the line, history changed, and the Axis power defeated the Allies. When America was dragged into the war and sided with the Allies, they played a major role in preventing the establishment of what likely would have been the largest military empire in human history.
In 1933 a horrible dictator started his rise to power in Germany, and would eventually be the main cause of World War II. There were many causes of World War II, but Adolf Hitler was the main cause over all. The war lasted six long drawn out years. World War II started on September 1, 1933 and ended on May 8, 1945 with Germany’s defeat. Adolf Hitler played a key role in World War II because he started the war, his anger stemmed from his early life, he rose to power with his plans ready, and made many decisions throughout the war, but in the end his plans failed.
On December 7th, 1941, Japan bombed the United States Army, Air Force, and Naval Bases, in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. The next day on December 8th, 1941, the U.S. entered World War II declaring war on Japan as they provoked us to do so with their sneaky aerial attack. Behind the scenes of the extensive fighting, American
Adolf Hitler’s military tactics, poor leadership skills, and actions caused him to lose World War II. Hitler’s objective was to gain world power. He was willing to risk everything for Germany to become the most powerful country. According to Richard Overy, a British historian, “If the German people are not prepared to engage in its own survival, so be it: then it must disappear!” (538). Hitler was also willing to sacrifice Germany to attain world control and victory during World War II. The idea of losing WWII never came across Hitler’s mind because he was confident that Germany would become victorious during the war.
