The Civil War was caused by the economics of slavery and the political control of that system, specifically being states’ rights on the federal powers of the government, the territorial expansion of the united states that led to the division of the two sides, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln which was the final event that sent the nation to war.
The Civil War was one of the darkest times in American History that lasted from 1861 to 1865. It was a war fought primarily over the contrasting beliefs between the southern states who were pro-slavery and the northern states who were anti-slavery. After the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, the southern states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America. To this day, it is still unclear whether the southern states had any legal basis for seceding but the fact of the matter is the federal government did not have any power to prevent them at the time. The conflict during the Civil War was whether slavery was morally acceptable but the main reason for the war was states’ rights to own
The Civil War between northern and southern states was a consequence of contradictions of two social systems inside the country. At the basis of these contradictions was a question of slavery, completely determining economic and political interests of South. North strived to enforce Federal government power to protect their own economic stability. As a result the South wanted a separation and the North was determined to keep the country unified. Therefore, besides slavery as a main root cause of the conflict, there were other causes as economic differences and political events which led to the Civil War.
During the Civil War there was a lot going on at the time. The North and South decided to split, and this caused some problems. One reason the Civil War happened was because of slavery. The South didn't like the idea of keeping slavery. The South wanted everyone to have equal rights. The North, on the other hand didn't think that slaves should have equal rights.
The Civil War happened due to the many differences between the North and the South. For example economic, social, cultural and political differences. These all helped lead America to a Civil War. But to an extent, the most important cause was the fact there were many disagreements with states' rights versus federal rights.
American Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865. The war began because President Abraham Lincoln, elected in 1860, was very persistent on preserving the Union, which was threatened by the issue of slavery. The North was growing rapidly in wealth and population, and it was clear to the Southern slave states that the North would eventually be strong enough to carry a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery (Faust, p. 995). The Republican Party had been formed in 1854 to oppose slavery. Consequently, when Lincoln became
The Civil War was fought in the United States of America between the northern and southern states starting in 1861 and ending in 1865. The Civil War was the most significant time in the history of America. The Civil War was to be thought as the shaping of the American individual. The northerners and the southerner’s views on this war were different. The northerners viewed it as a revolutionary war and the southerners viewed it as rebellion. The war started out due to the many differences between the northern and southern states. Between these two regions laid economic, social and political differences, with slavery being the main root of the differences. As the war ended it caused many social and economic changes. One huge change was the abolishment of slavery. Race relation and slave confusions were tearing up the country’s political and social architecture. I believe that the Civil War has changed the way we look at this world today because once the Civil War came to an end it abolished slavery.
The civil war was mainly sparked by tensions between the north and the south. Both sides rarely agreed on topics and could never make a compromise. Slavery was a big reason for the start of the civil war, but the causes don’t end there. Although some may say that political or economic reasons started the civil war between the north and the south, political reasons were the real cause. This is because of important decisions made by the government, and the south seceding.
Case, John Brown 's Raid, and the passage of the fugitive slave act that held
As Abraham Lincoln succeed in winning the elections it became a conflict. In Document 11 from the Civil War DBQ it says that Abraham Lincoln was republican who was against the expansion of slavery. Lincoln winning the election without a single vote from the Southern side it lead to the civil war. The South fear that he was going abolish slavery in the Southern side. The South secede from the Union, but Abraham wanted the Nation to be together and he was going to do whatever it takes to have all states together in the Union. Since he wanted to stop slavery the South refuse and fought against the
The civil war started because of the uncompromising differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to take away slavery from the areas that had not yet become free of slavery. Confederate states fought to keep slavery. Slavery was a large part in their society. But slavery wasn't the only reason the war began it was also because
“Both parties deprecated war; but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive; and the other would accept war rather than let it perish. And the war came,” (Abraham Lincoln). The American Civil War was caused by the enmity and growing friction between the Northerners and the Southerners, mostly over slavery. The enmity and friction reached to such a level that the Southerners left the Union. The Northerners had to accept the Civil War because without the war, the South would be gone and the Union would have been in shambles. The enmity that threw the United States into the Civil War was caused by numerous amounts of reasons. One specific reason which helped incite the hostility between the parties was the Kansas-Nebraska
The Civil War started because of the disagreement, of free and not free. They both wanted the right to use the national government to their advantage, and make the territory that where not states free or in favor of slavery. When Abraham Lincoln won election in 1860 he promised that he would keep the slavery out of the territories. This did not go over very well for some areas that are very southern, and farm oriented. These territories in the Deep South proceeded to succeed from the others and form the confederate states of America. This resulted in the upper or northern states getting angry because they did not want slavery. The north did not accept the fact that the southern territories tried to succeed, and refused to acknowledge the legitimacy. This made them fear the fact that the United States were not so united anymore, and they very well could fracture into many smaller countries, not one large united country. This may have made lots of people fear starting a war, but they did not have a choice. Each side believed in what they were fighting for.
In 1860, the world 's greatest nation was locked in Civil War. The war divided the country between the North and South. There were many factors that caused this war, but the main ones were the different interpretations of the Constitution by the North and South, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the arrival of
