The Socs don't like the Greasers because they feel they are far superior than them and feel they need to be hateful. Also just because you're wealthy doesn’t mean that you are happy. Maybe the Socs want lives like the Greasers because they are care-free. The Socs feel they need to jump the innocent Greasers to show who has power and that the they are powerless. Socs get better treatment, even when they break the law to get the feeling of dominance over the Greasers. Also they do not relate to each other as individuals so they just don’t know the Greasers but they always knew to not like them. The Socs hate the greasers so much because they feel they are better than them and feel the need to be mean. Also just because you're rich doesn’t mean that you’re life is amazing. Also just because you're rich doesn’t mean that you’re life is amazing so maybe the Socs want lives like the greasers because they are more free. And they feel the need to jump them to show who has power and that the greasers are powerless. Socs get preferential treatment, even when they break the law in acts of selfishness so they think they are better. Also they do not relate to each other as individuals so they just don’t know each other but they always knew to not like greasers so that’s just how it
In a place where rich and poor, good and bad are fighting with each other. The Greasers had a rougher life than the Socs. The Greasers had a rough life because they were poor and they always get in trouble by the Socs.Greasers are people that can’t afford almost anything and People blame them for doing bad stuff always. The Socs are west side rich kids who basically can own almost everything.People think that Greasers are bad juvenile kids who always do bad things, but in reality they are just poor people that had to do bad stuff because they have to.
First and foremost, wealth is a huge part of the social class because it defines your status. It is also the main reason why Greasers and Socs are separated. Ponyboy thinks that money is the biggest cause of separation between the two groups, for example, “I'm not sure how you spell it, but is the abbreviation for Socials, the West Side rich kids. It's like the term greaser that's used to class all us boys on the East Side” This quote of Pony tells the readers that society today understands the separation of the world. The people who have money and the people who do not. He also understands that Greasers do not have wealth like the Greasers because as
They are at fault because they are reckless, they break laws and fight for fun, while the Socs only fight if they have a good reason. They are at fault because they unfairly stereotype the Socs and cause conflict between the two gangs, and finally, because all of the deaths in the novel were directly and indirectly caused by the Greasers. If the Greasers never tried to steal the Socs girlfriends, the Socs wouldn’t have jumped them, Johnny never would have killed Bob, Johnny wouldn’t have died, and Dally wouldn’t have committed suicide. The lessons learned in this riveting and spine chilling story are crucial to apply to your everyday lives, because if not cautious, then this dystopia may become a reality. To think that, this whole dilemma could have been avoided by one small thing… “Whenever you're in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude.” -William
They were looking to belong. (p. 4) ” The socs believe that the greasers shouldn't have the right right to live a peaceful life and they shouldn't live the way they live. Whenever a soc sees a greaser you better grab some popcorn because there is going to be a fight and you never know someone may turn up
Greasers are the main stereotype in the book but also there is a small part played by the Socs. Although the book is about the life and times of a Greaser there is also a ‘Socs Story’ in there, as throughout the book you learn more and more about the Socs and how they live. But this all changes. When Bob dies Cherry and Randy, the main Socs characters, begin to see that there is no difference between Socs and Greasers. Randy, when he talks to Ponyboy in private doesn’t call
“Maybe the two different worlds we live in weren’t so different. We saw the same sunset” (Hinton 41). This means that both Socs, and Greasers both have problems, and the same interests. Even though they come from different neighborhoods, they still breath the same air, went to the same school, have the same interests such as going to the movies, and have the same types of problems.
One of the main vs man conflict in the Outsiders is the rival between the greasers and the socs. The greasers are the east side boys who " steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations". The greasers, due to their family background and physical appearance, are being stereotyped as individuals who are poor and are provided with fewer opportunities than others. On the other hand, the socs, are " the west-side rich kids" who come from affluent backgrounds and" likes to jump greasers and throw beer blasts for kicks". In the eyes of the public, the Socs are the social elites whereas the greasers are considered the less privileged, second-class citizens.
Three big reasons that make me a Soc are that I do not smoke, I have a easier life style, and I do not really feel emotions as much as other people may feel them. First, I have a easier lifestyle because I live in a rather nice neighborhood where not a lot of bad crimes happen. I also have a easier lifestyle because I have parents who go to work and buy me things and the Greasers did not have parents and had to provide for themselves. Obviously, I cannot smoke and do not want to smoke which makes me like Socs because in the whole book and movie they did not smoke once and the book and movie did not talk about them smoking.
In The Outsiders, both the Socs and the Greasers spent most of their time in gang fights and disobeying the law. The Socs were wealthier and had a higher social status. “We get jumped by the Socs. I'm not sure how you spell it, but it's the abbreviation for the Socials, the jet set, the West-side rich kids. It's like the term "greaser," which is used to class all us boys on the East Side. We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder, too” (Hinton 4). The Greasers were poor and usually came from
Most people in this novel think that Greasers are a disgrace, but no one notices how badly the Socs treat Greasers. The socs bully greasers and that could be causing more anger to build in the greasers that cause them to act out. Socs verbally and physically abuse them, it’s one thing to steal but it’s another when you hurt someone mentally or physically on purpose. I’ve seen with my own eyes that kids who have been hurt by others or their parents cause them to act out and do things they normally wouldn’t do because of their built up anger. No one knows what happens at home for a
The actions the socs make aren’t very friendly. When they come by greasers they also threaten them and get in the way of whatever they are doing. If it’s at night and no one is around the socs find greasers and talk to them. Socs also like to brag about being rich because the greasers are very
The difference between the Greasers and Socs in the society is the Greasers treated unequally and criticized for being poor. The Socs are bullying, criticizing, and intimidating the Greasers based on the economic level. Greasers have unequal lifestyles, attitudes, and financial situations, but still live in the same world, beneath the same sun as the Socs (Hinton 18), but repeat the same actions toward the Socs in a way of fighting back and sticking together.
The Socs and the Greasers have isolated themselves in their community which lead to all the violence in the story.
The difference in social class definitely took its toll on the two of these gangs. The Soc’s and Greaser’s opinion would change from with experiences, but for the most part it was a clash for who owned the town. The Socs were the “good guys” and the Greasers were the “troublemakers” of town, although this was definitely not the case but because of the unchanging prejudice opinions were placed on both of the groups it would not change. For example, Ponyboy explained that maybe the Greasers and Socs aren’t so different after all. On page 40, Ponyboy starts to wonder how different he is from any of the Socs, “It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one I saw from the back steps was the
There were conflicts between the Socs that conflicted with the greasers. They were two opposite groups that didn't get along. The Socs, "the jet-set...West-side rich kids, wear madras shirts, smell of English leather, and drive new sports cars..." (6). Socs were rich, while greasers were low class. "Soc" is an abbreviation of the Socials, which are the West-side rich kids. Socs had a better reputation than the greasers.
