The United States will lose to China as the World’s most powerful country. First of all, everybody knows that America is the most wasteful nation on the planet. The majority of Americans live only for the present time and do not concern for the future. They would rather purchase cans of soda than drink free tap water and then generate tons of waste every day. The leftover food that American families and businesses throw out at the end of the day could feed millions of starving people. As a result, their losses of billions of dollars per year from their food waste effect their economy. On the other hand, Chinese people do not live for the moment, spending everything they earn. They save and plan for the future. Furthermore, China has the highest
In 1917, after three years of stalemate between the Allies and Axis Powers, the tides of WW1 changed as the US joined the party on the side of the Allies. In a single year after the US joined, the Allied won the Great War. Although the US were victors of the war, the country should also recognize that 117,000 of its troops died in just a single year. That’s an average 14,675 casualties per month. The reason why the US lost so many troops in WW1 in such a short period of time is because the country was behind in almost all aspects of war. America was not prepared for war. American technology and tactics were all outdated. The troops were inexperienced and trained poorly. This costed American lives that did not need to be lost. If it wasn’t for the enormous numbers and resource advantage that the US had, the US and the Allies would’ve lost the war.
Summary: America’s economy has been the biggest, most powerful in the world for a long time now. Other countries are decreasing their economic status and eventually going bankrupted because America is so powerful.
America is currently a very large super power which was the result of the last 50 years. Over the next fifty years I do see america stepping down from its superpower title and continue declining. I would characterize America’s future as this because we no longer grow now all we do is expand and improve upon. Which is exactly what Fareed Zakaria was saying in the article “Are America’s Best Days Behind Us?” in the section “The perils of success, the author states “Britain, having won the war, slipped into deep stagnation, while Germany, the loser, grew powerfully year after year. Britain's fall was even more perplexing considering that it was the creator of the Industrial Revolution and was the world's original economic superpower.” Which is what I believe will happen to america, we will begin to decline unless we correct the domestic issues we have. I am somewhere in between, i’m hopeful we can correct all the issues we need to correct in order to stay on top but i’m also fearful for what might come if we do not. If we correct the issues we can begin growing again and stay on top as a superpower. If we don’t correct the domestic issues we have, we will decline and crisis that hit our country will dwarf us just as Zakaria had mentioned in the same article “When the financial crisis hit nations such as Greece and Ireland, it dwarfed
• China is set to overtake the United States as the world’s largest economy by 2016—a date that is fast approaching. How do you think this monumental economic shift will affect your life in the short term? How will it affect
On August 6th and 9th of the year 1945, the United States destroyed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki through the use of atomic bombs. Many people believe that these atomic bombs ended World War II. However, the use of these nuclear weapons were completely unnecessary and barbaric. Without the atomic bombs, Japan would have still surrendered shortly due to several factors. The Japanese were fearful of the planned invasion by the Soviet Union and were also already in a weak state and willing to surrender. Also, their allowance to keep their emperor would have been enough to end the war. The murder of thousands of Japanese people could have been avoided.
The Vietnam War was one of the most deadliest wars in America, many were killed and even more injured. The war began because of America’s efforts to stop the spread of communism. The Vietcong may of won the war but America showed that we will not let communism spread, the domino theory come into effect, and America’s faults in our war program and way to attack the Vietcong. The war was lost but from a overview of the war America learned from their lose.
Currently, Russia possesses over 300 nuclear warheads than the U.S (Source B). Nuclear arsenals are the interpretations of power yet the democracy. is lagging behind it’s number one rival. In addition, China is emerging as the dominant player in the global trade. Fairly most product one come across will be labeled “Made in China”.
Imagine it’s 1939 and word hits you that war is waging throughout Europe. Now imagine being called off to war because the United States decided to join the war effort. Everyone else signed up and those who weren’t were drafted. Now imagine being on the front line. Bombs explode around you and bullets whizzing by your head as you try to take out the enemy. Suddenly everything turns black and you find you cannot wake up from this deathly sleep. Your mother and father are devastated as they bury you. What if your brother died too? What if your father had to go to war? What if the United States lost the war? As shown through this example war does not solve anything. War created more problems for this family. This is why we mustn 't rush to
The Postbellum period in America from 1865 to the 1920s was characterized by a transformation of the American economy and unprecedented growth. Some of the largest companies founded in this time period are still around and thriving today including the Ford Motor Company, J.P. Morgan Chase, and General Electric. In addition to economic growth, there was also rapid urbanization and population growth from 31 million people in 1860 to 91 million in 1910. A shift in the market from agriculture to manufacturing partially propelled this growth. Despite the decrease in agricultural market share, the output increased threefold. By 1910, America increased its share in world manufacturing to 38.8% from 23.3% in 1870. Some economic historians such as Beard and Hacker propose that this growth is due to the Civil War. In general, there were three main spheres of influence spurring economic growth in this time period including technological advances, economic advantages and big business, and institutional changes.
The United States intervention in Vietnam is seen by the world as America’s greatest loss and longest war. Before the start of the war in Vietnam, the thought of the United States losing this war was unheard of because America was technologically superior, no country in south East Asia could contend with them. Lyndon B. Johnson announced that he would not be the president to allow South East Asia to go Communist . Why the United States lost the war has been a huge debate since the end of the war, because there were so many factors affecting why they lost; the war was a loss politically, after losing support from not only the American public but also the South Vietnamese and losing a political mandate for the war by 1973, when the last
President Dwight Eisenhower conditionally pledged to support South Vietnam’s new nation in 1955. In the time period between 1955-1961 the United States pumped seven billion dollars in aid so that Vietnam would not “go over quickly” like a “row of dominoes” (McNamara 31). In the next 6 years Vietnam would cost America billions of dollars, thousands of lives, and the disaffection of much of the United States public. Yet in the end, South Vietnam would fall to the North less than 2 years after the United States military involvement ceased.

“Defeat in Vietnam has left the United States deeply divided” (Hallin, 1986:3). The Vietnam War became a major Cold War conflict in the 1960s period. This essay will evaluate the following question; what are the main reasons for the United States (US) defeat in the Vietnam War? The research was done through the qualitative research method which included books, journals and articles. This essay will argue that the main reasons for the US defeat in the Vietnam War was because of their inefficient tactics, inexperienced soldiers, and both international and home pressure. This research is important because the question has not been answered to its fullest extent. Additionally, it provides evidence that countries with powerful nuclear weapons and
The rise in China from a poor, stagnant country to a major economic power within a time span of twenty-eight years is often described by analysts as one of the greatest success stories in these present times. With China receiving an increase in the amount of trade business from many countries around the world, they may soon be a major competitor to surpass the U.S. China became the second largest economy, last year, overtaking Japan which had held that position since 1968 (Gallup). China could become the world’s largest economy in decades.
The longest war in the history of the United States of America has taken place in Vietnam during the Cold War. “The US fear of a communist Europe led them to intervene in a war that was not seen in a vital importance or that would not be in the country`s interest to gain any advantage” (Bernstein 1987/8, p. 86). One of the main reasons why the US lost the war in Vietnam was the lack of preparation and understanding of the Vietnamese culture. The Vietnamese fighters had several advantages due to the countries geographical location and language barrier. Furthermore, the insurgency in Vietnam was almost impossible for the US
