Why did World War II begin? On June 28, 1919, seven and a half months after the fighting during World War I, the Versailles Treaty was signed by the Allied nation and a defeated Germany. The Allied nations included Great Britain, France, and the United States. By signing this treaty they thought they would prevent another World War to occur, but that was not the case. In the treaty many nations wanted to “punish” Germany for the war and incorporated many harsh punishments for Germany. Many people can see these punishments by the loss of territory, military restrictions, and the billions of dollars in reparations. The Versailles Treaty was one of the main causes that World War II occurred.
