Many athletes are praised for their performances in middle school and high school; however, when they realize they have made it to pay at a college level they tend to relax. Because of the constant praise athletes get an ego and tend to think because they are the best they do not have to try as hard as others on the team (or other athletes in general). They stop grinding (or putting in work) because they think they have already made it and their job is done. Some people are not as fast, skilled, or talented as other, but if you put work in you can still make it. Eric says that while others are relaxing and taking it easy while you are grinding soon enough you are going to pass them and become better than them. You have the drive and drive can
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and major division one programs are reeling in millions of dollars from the performance of students at their respective institutions. The athletes are compensated with scholarships in tuition, books, housing, and meals. Even though the athletes are receiving compensation from their universities, student athletes deserve to be paid because of the time devoted to being an athlete, the business behind the NCAA, and the profitability of the athlete’s own image.
Since March 31st, 1906 , the day the NCAA was found, it has been making a hand full of money off of their athletes. College athletes are the face of the organization. The reason why most universities are very well known. Why college athletes aren't getting paid for their sweat, blood and tears, is the number 1 argument in today's sport world.
NCAA is a national business this day of time. At least half of the world is watching a college game when it’s on NCAA, They make over at least 3 million dollars every game. The college’s players get none of that money that’s getting paid to NCAA. The players are the ones that are putting in the work, staying overtime, and killing their body.
Year after year fans enjoy nail biting moments produced by the NCAA basketball tournament and football season. Many would argue that the NCAA provides a product that matches up with the professionals both competitively and financially. The only difference is that professionals get paid for the revenue that they bring in while NCAA athletes do not. It is time for change, college athletes should be monetarily compensated because they are the ones who have made the NCAA profitable for many years.
Which can be hard for some athletes like basketball players who play in like major tournaments like National Collegiate Athletics Association tournament or commonly known as March Madness that starts on March 17 and ends April 6.
Saturday college football, the roars of the thousands of people who came to see their college athletes play the game they love. March madness, where the thousands of fans are paying their ways to cheer on the basketball stars. The college world series, with fans watching all around the world making the NCAA millions even billions of dollars. With all this money being made, why shouldn’t college athletes be getting paid? Most people will argue that scholarships will cover everything they need, or they do not need to get paid period, but there is a different argument to paying college athletes. Since the college athletes are creating revenue for their schools, and also for the NCAA, a stipend is in need.
Many student-athletes can have their whole career, their passion, and love of their respected sport taken away from them with just 1 play. The student-athletes are representing their respective school and making the school more popular and more students will want to enroll there and the student-athletes are making the NCAA millions of dollars, but the NCAA will not give the student-athletes just a little allowance because it will “ruin the integrity of college sports”. Student athletes-athletes should get paid because students could get hurt in one play, the NCAA makes millions of dollars on the the players, and it will make the players do smarter things with their money.
College sports is one of the most popular things to watch on television. With a lot of people watching means it is bringing in a lot of revenue. Where does this revenue go to? This money goes to the people at the top such as administrators and coaches. Shouldn’t the ones performing be getting a cut of this huge chunk of money? Sure they get scholarships and their education paid for, but some players bring in far more money than what their scholarships cost. These athletes make these schools so much money and they don’t get a fair cut of the pie. These athletes work so hard and perform so well to not get what they deserve. With all of the money in the business
“Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard” As said by Tim Notke in this quote, not everyone has the motivation and dedication to be able to commit to a sport, keep up with school, and go to work. Student athletes, NCAA players are worth money should not get paid because tournaments that are held by the NCAA force students to miss class and the NCAA in basketball and football bring in money as a non-profit organization. Missing class at a college level puts the student in a very bad situation. If regular students are struggling with their classes when they miss, just imagine how much stress a student athlete undergoes when they miss a class. Also, most of the time that the student athlete is in a sport, it creates a lot more stress for them because they are putting in more than 40+ hours of training so that they are prepared for their competitions.
The magnitude of the controversy to pay college athletes has intensified over the past few years. It might be due to the prevailing economic atmosphere causing everyone, including aspiring athletes, to look for new ways to make money. It might also be due to many higher educational facilities giving the public access to their annual budget, causing outsiders to focus on the profit of specific athletic programs. However, it might also be due to the coaches’ outrageous salaries and the money that universities make from bowl games and basketball tournaments. Regardless, this has intensified the fact that athletes see none of these profits and this is what implores the simple question of “where is my portion?”
Throughout history college athletics has been a source of revenue. As a result of this revenue, it’s always been debated if student-athletes should get paid a salary. According to the NCAA collegiate athletics revenue add up to some $10.6 billion a year (NCAA…). Unfortunately, some colleges claimed that they can’t afford to compensate the student-athlete for their performance. The NCAA states they are student’s first, athletes second. The term student-athletes implies that all enrolled students who play college sports are engaged in secondary, extra-curricular activities that enhance their education (Gutting). Even though the time required to put in, for practice and games can exceed over 50 hours a week. It’s a bad idea paying student-athletes a salary, but I do believe they should be able to receive some sponsorship money. Their scholarship money is towards college academic fees; it’s almost impossible for a full time student-athlete to obtain a job. A financial reward for their efforts could be very helpful to cover living expenses, medical bills and everyday necessities.
Student athletes have been disrespected their whole career, even though College athletic is considered a money maker of a business, the athletes don’t even get paid, some say it is because paying them will reduce the amount of competitiveness, some say they aren’t employees so they shouldn’t get paid. Even the full scholarships they are getting has flaws. Overall the colleges are just too greedy.
Imagine a workers boss getting paid from his or her success while the worker gets nothing in return. If you have not realized already that is a pretty basic definition of a pimp and that is exactly what the NCAA does to their athletes (Latham). The NCAA should pay their college athletes for their hard work.
D1 colleges make hundreds of thousand even millions because of the players and the players get none of it. How is that fair to the players? I know you will all say that they already get a scholarship and that is enough but most scholarships are about twenty thousand dollars a year but most college players only stay in college for a year. Shabazz Napier the UConn basketball star, says that he went to bed starving most nights. Shabazz was a role model to many kids in America and was almost at the point of being famous. Yet he still couldn’t afford to go get something for dinner after practice. Many people would say to get a job, how are you supposed to get a job when you have school, workouts, and practices or games
Touch Down! Home run! Goal! If you heard of these phrases, you probably imagine of sports. Professional sports are one of the hardest jobs to have. It might seem easy, but it really isn't. Once playing a professional sport, every drip of sweat is worth it. Which people who do not play sports only care about their salary, in which I believe they should make the money they make because they earned it.
