The essay “The Purpose and Objectives of a Business” analyzes the topic in several aspects. Authors are against the answer “An organization to make a profit” at the beginning to the topic. Business has two basic functions: marketing and innovation. Marketing concentrates on customers. The aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous. Innovation, a term of economics rather than of technology, pays more attention on lower prices, new products, new uses for old products and so on. It also refers to social responsibility objects which could be easily missed. I have the same view that making profit is not the final purpose of business. I do agree that though it not a final aim, making profit is a necessary process and motivate to maintain the business and allow the business to run.
Joanne H. Gavin and Richard O. Mason wrote the essay “The Virtuous Organization: The Value of Happiness in the Workplace.” These two authors have placed their emphasis on positive psychology to create and maintain healthier, happier and more productive workplace. In the first section, they present the importance of happiness at work by showing the situation of working in America, study on productivity in the workplace and existed stress on the job. We cannot let our work and living conditions limit our success, we must take control of the situations in our lives. As much as we have all heard it, we need to keep a positive attitude and mindset, or at least try to. This is probably the easiest way to take control of the situations you are in; keeping a positive attitude has been known to increase your physical and mental health, which can really only benefit you. In a study performed by the University of California, Riverside, in which productivity, happiness, and overall physical and mental well-being were analyzed in working individuals, it was concluded that a positive attitude and outlook has a great effect on one’s life. Generally positive, or “happy people,” were found to be more satisfied with their jobs, to perform tasks better, and less likely to be unemployed and more likely to be physically healthier and live longer than their less happy peers (Joy). Positive people being less likely to be unemployed allows these individuals to accumulate more money, which makes the general public happier nowadays, and this ultimately makes the dream of having success more easily attainable. The most universal goal every human has in common is the pursuit of happiness or “creation or construction of happiness” (Achor, 78). To be able to fulfill this wish of becoming happy, people often think the key to achieving happiness is success. In the book, The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor, he debunks this theory of success leading to happiness by illustrating the reverse theory of success. Through dozens of studies and experiments as forms of evidence, the author argues that an individual needs to achieve happiness in order to be truly successful. Achor 's argument is valid in that happiness should come before success because there is a clear advantage to being successful in an individual’s work life, personal sphere, and liveliness if they are happy first and foremost.

In finding happiness at work, there is a large but limited set of values or factors; the key is determining how much of each value is needed. The individual is the only one who can make the determination of how much of each value is needed. What makes one person happy at work is not the same combination for the next guy. One guy may value a big salary to be happy while another could be just as happy with a little less pay and a little more involvement. The right mix of variables is personal because priorities need to be set. Rare is the job that provides all the values that you need in the exactly right proportions. As a business can also be a person or corporation engaged in exchanges, manufacturing, or a service to seek profit. Every second the national debt continues to grow, the government feels raising the federal budget will make a difference, but it will not. If were sought to help alleviate the national debt my proposition would be to raise the minimum wage, which not only benefits the people, but it can the government as well.
In the video titled “The Happy Secret To Better Work”, Shawn Achor really outlines how being happy and staying positive can really change your life. In other words Achor is referring to positive psychology. When referring to the world around us Achor really believes the majority of people focus on only the negatives and not the positives. He also talks about how that reality might not be what shapes us but in actuality it is our brain that puts a lens on how we perceive things and that may change our happiness. Achor also outlines another trait of our brain, which is that we as humans set progressing goals that never seem to be fulfilled due to human nature. He finishes his presentation by giving the audience some ways to help reverse the way we see the world and help our work and life in general.

It’s important for a person to learn how to improve her mood and raise her level of happiness throughout the day. So that she can retrain her brain to capitalize on positivity in order to improve productivity and performance.
The modern business management world has changed dramatically since, the book published 2008, “The Five Most Important Questions…” by Drucker. To do the business or run an organization, first ask the question “why we are doing business?” Best assessment is always depends upon asking the right question, not providing the right answers. In these managerial decisions, the important and difficult job is never to find right answer, it 's to find the right question to the organization (Drucker, 2012).
