Why Do Gender Matter

Good Essays

Why Gender Matters Research Paper Men and women are different in many ways. Biologically it is caused by how the brain acts and how it is wired. Men and women’s brains process things differently and control different parts compared to the opposite gender. The biological differences between men and women affect how they process emotions, stress and the differences in how the two brains are wired. The differences of the brain between the two genders make it easier for scientists and doctors to identify the way the male and female brains work the same, and different. Emotions are highly complex and affect men and women differently. Through these differences, more about the minds of men and women is learned. How each gender responds to an action or event is not only caused by their upbringing, but on how the brain has been wired since the embryonic phase. The language areas in women’s brains “develop before the areas used for spatial relations and for geometry. In boys, it’s the …show more content…

These differences are caused by the genetic coding in the sexes. Scientists believed that “hormones are responsible for sex differences in the brain” and the “sex differences must be small in children”. (Sax 13) Males and females have different levels of X and Y chromosomes. Many areas of men’s brains are “rich in proteins that are coded directly by the Y chromosome. Those proteins are absent in women’s brain tissue”. (Sax 14) In women the “tissue is rich in material coded directly by the X chromosome; these particular transcripts of the X chromosome are absent from men’s brain tissue”. (Sax 14-15) Having scientific data that shows the differences between the X and Y chromosomes in men and women allow people to see that this genetic coding has been present since early development in the womb in both genders which means that these differences are not because of
