A big debate has hit America arguing over if owning a gun is better than having basic human rights. The first amendment makes sure the country is what it was made to be, free. Without this amendment the U.S. would be owned by its government, but with a lot of violence. Some say the second amendment makes it to where people can protect themselves , but the U.S. isn't fighting the British anymore. Guns are not as necessary as they were, thus saying freedom is more important. Though it is important to protect America's guns, the right to freely speak, print, petition, and believe are far more important. The first amendment makes America what it is. The Washington Times states, "The first amendment is first, not simply because it falls at the beginning of a list of amendments, but because it articulates the first freedom and the nature of that freedom." When the colonists first fled Britain from religious prosecution they made sure that no one had to run again. They could not say the truth or spread word in the press. If that still happened today all citizens would be in the dark, and take the governments word. With what is going on in the world today that would be a huge mistake. …show more content…
Think about Martin Luther King Jr.; he peacefully assembled and he spoke his mind, helping end segregation. Nelson Mandela is another, he was the leader of some peaceful protests. MLK Jr. said, "I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings out momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace." This is basically saying that violence, often done with guns, is never the way to bring permanent peace. With peace, and a bit of violence, America ended a major problem; that wasn't solved with
The Ten Amendments built the foundation for our country, but the one the amendment that makes us who we are as Americans in my opinion is the First Amendment. As Americans, we all like to boast how we have the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, and our Freedom to Assemble. So, how could any of this be possible without the First Amendment?
In America, violence never has or will solve problems; it only makes them worse. Martin Luther King Jr. was a major leader in the Civil Rights Movement and often sought out to inform others that violence was not the answer and peaceful protest was; claiming that “… rifles [wouldn’t] solve their problems” (Source A). King also claimed that peace yielded better results than violence and was heavily against the Vietnam War. He knew that America as a country had sent thousands of men away; men who were brothers, sons, husbands, and neighbors off “miles away to guarantee liberties” they did not have in the United States. (Source A).
Guns all around the world have done harm to people such as killing them, but has also saved the lives of people as a use of protection, which is why I believe that guns should not be taken away all together. It is in my hope that I can get people to understand that guns have a meaning behind them both good and bad and that regulations within the gun control need to be set in place. A safety and mandatory training should be in place for anyone who is purchasing a gun. To be able to get a gun or firearm one must go through a training process of however many hours a week for however long to be cleared to own and carry a gun to ensure confidence in knowing how to use one and for the safety of a person. The chosen target audience for this topic would be anyone that has or is thinking about purchasing a gun. It is pointed towards this audience because accidents and deaths occur all the time and put people in danger when one does not know how to use a gun properly. This mandatory training will not only teach one how to use a gun but will also ensure that the people that are sold a gun had the training and are aware of the safeties and can shoot at an accuracy. This will stop many of the accidents from happening, allowing for people to feel safe and confident that the owners of a gun are trained in how to use it.
The first amendment is really important because it gives the people freedom to support whatever religion they want. The government cannot force you to believe in one religion nor may it interfere with the way
The 1st amendment came from the people of America and they wanted the people to have freedom, but not too much that the Country will be in ruins“Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us." so they set boundaries so they people won’t kill the nation. People were killing people because people were not doing the ways of the what some people wanted the other people wanted to do so they killed them and got away.Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties.-John Milton But after the amendments were made fewer people killing and violently assembling because of the 1st amendment. The 1st amendment is important because it lets people Peacefully
The first amendment formed our country and brought us together to be the free country we are. The first amendment talks about how we get the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, Freedom of press. Amendment 1 is the most important Amendment because it doesn’t allow Congress to make laws about respending religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, and abridging the freedom of speech or press.
The Second Amendment is the most important because it provides defense towards americans. “Many have been surprised by the lack of resistance by the European Jews who were killed by the millions in the Nazi concentration and death camps during the Second World War. Yet when some of the people were able to gain access to weapons, they did resist, even when they knew the end was most likely to be the same.” (Ebeling, The Daily Bell) Many people were killed during WW2 and mostly was because of the lack of guns. If they possessed a gun they would have a higher chance of survival. “A gun can be a great equalizer for the weak and the defenseless, especially if an intended victim doesn't have to waste precious seconds fumbling with the key to a mandatory trigger lock.” (Ebeling, The Daily Bell) This proof tells you that a gun can be used in order to guarantee your defense and safety. There are many stories about americans that lived just
Due to the British oppression, every American, including our founding founders, wanted greater protection of their rights. To accomplish this, James Madison drafted the Bill of Rights and by the end of 1791, every state had ratified the first ten amendments. The First Amendment is primary, not just because it is at the beginning, but because it articulates the First Freedom and the nature of that freedom. It states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” By connecting the freedom of religion with the freedoms of speech and press, the First Amendment showed the people of America what it is to be a human (Bill of Rights).
As you can see, the first Amendment gives us plenty of freedoms that would be tough to live without. Only the first Amendment allows us to join any religious faith, speak against the government when necessary, publish
Did you know you are 4 times more likely to be killed with a knife or other cutting instrument than you are by a rifle or a shotgun? Gun rights and gun control are always hot items during any political discussion, whether it is between peers or politicians. One of the many great advantages to being an American is the ability to choose for one's own self what to believe in. Another advantage, in my opinion, is the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Laws should not restrict gun rights because first, it would infringe the second amendment, second, guns are a part of our culture, and finally, if guns were outlawed, citizens of the U.S. would become vulnerable.
The second amendment entitles the people to own or bear arms. Many people today believe that gun rights should be repealed or removed for the Bill of Rights, but I believe that this is one of our very first amendments and it is one of the most important ones, because it keeps the government from imposing tyranny or an oppressive government upon the people. The second amendment also give us the ability to protect ourselves without the government taking the right away from you. History is filled with stories of government overpowering people, and without the second amendment these problems will repeat themselves. The past couple of months this year believe that gun laws or rights are being violated, and many people are voting to repeal the second amendment because of these people hurting others with the right to own a gun.
On January 1st. Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, signed a bill into law that allows licensed handgun owners to openly display firearms out into the public. Open carry being legal in the majority of the United States is terrible. Getting licensed today would be fairly easy because background checks are horrible. One out of every veterans come back from war with PTSD. A mere sight of a gun would cause them to have a major anxiety attack, and after all, we should be respecting them and not shoving guns to their faces. Plus if you think about it, there is no good convenient reason to show your guns to the outside world.
Nearly 53% of identified shootings took place at elementary schools, and 47% took place on college or university campuses (Everytown). Over the past few years public shootings have gone up. With this long-standing debate people are reacting and saying guns cause these shootings. Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Not all people are bad in the world, that is why the government should not ban guns. Guns can keep people safe and make people feel safer.
5. The vast majority of gun owners are not all crackpots. It’s just those few who are mentally ill and take a gun and kill innocent people. Most people keep a gun
Gun ownership should be banned in order to reduce crime rates and ensure the protection of our nation’s people. Throughout the United States, gun control has become a controversial issue due to gun advocates strongly believing their 2nd Amendment rights guarantee them legal access to guns. Although gun advocates view gun ownership as self defense, the government and gun control supporters have noticed that legal distribution of guns has been linked to school shootings, homicide, and violent crimes. Furthermore, legal distribution of guns increases the risk of harming innocent people while declining the police’s power to establish safety in society. Overall, in order to prevent the destruction of our country, the people must work together to ban gun ownership and ratify the 2nd Amendment rights clarifying its purpose to the public.
