why do i want to attend lmu? The fearful photographer
For the past 15 years, as a teacher, I’ve had a lot of different experiences both positive and negative. I have decided to apply to your school for multiple reasons, (like its in london, Ive had positive reviews from accatinces, to name a few) but to understand the main reason a short story is necessary. Its called The Fearful Photographer, catchy name right?
This tale begins with a boy in his junior year of high school. He did not have a lot of friends nor did he stand out in anyway, until one day he signed up for a photography class. He had seen some work from his father when his dad was his age so he thought why not? He was a natural learning a year 's worth of knowledge in one semester he had finally found something he was good at. His teacher asked him if he would like to T.A for her being he already learned everything both classes offered, and he jumped at the opportunity. He began teaching his senior year in high school as the teaching assistant in the photo 101 & 102 class. He was lucky enough to attend a high school with a black & white and color wet lab, which back in the day was pretty swanky. The way the class was set up both the beginners and the advanced class occurred at the same time. The main problem with this class is that it was oversized (which seems to be the normal in the states). Most of the class where beginners which left a small percentage of the class with advanced students. With only one
Once when I was young I went to the amusement park with my big brother. My brother always kept saying to me that roller coaster rides are scary and dangerous, which made me imagine them really being scary and dangerous. “The fall of the house of usher” written by Edgar Allen Poe and “house taken over” written by Julio Cortazar are both short stories. It will be about fear and how the imagination can sometimes cause fear. Fear is a response to physical or emotional danger, whether the threat is real or imagined.
The first piece of writing was called “Two Questions” by Lynda Barry. The visual story is about a girl who finds it hard to make quality stories like she uses to. She gets very stressed out and overwhelmed. She feels that people negatively judge when she makes a “bad” writing piece. So, she stops. Then, one day she feels that she wants to start writing and drawing again. She then realizes that its okay to become stressed out by writing and that it's apart of the process. With that in mind she embraces it and gets her writing mojo back. I think that the visual story tries to convey the theme of never giving up on writing. This story speaks clearly to confused English students.
Caitlyn Hatch is a twenty year old student from Amherst, Massachusetts, who spends her weekends roaming abandoned buildings all over the western part of the state. What she does in these buildings is take photographs, however, she has not always been interested in the medium. Photography had never been her first choice for what she would possibly study at university, and she never imagined it as being something she would want to pursue professionally. Originally, she was intent on being a graphic designer. She had begun to play around with an online photoshop app, editing pictures taken by other people and was sure graphic design was for her, that is, until she got her first camera. She got her first camera at age fourteen for Christmas, one of the big black Nikon digital cameras. While she had never seriously considered photography before, she began to play around with her new camera. The novelty of it all coupled with the support of her father, who himself was an amateur nature photographer throughout his twenties, started the fire in her to take up this art and learn as much about it as she could.
I also write and illustrate stories for children. I have included a story that I was inspired to write because of this Rock Spring Farm experience. I titled it "Katie's Promise." It is a poem about a little girl and her promise to starving horses. The plan is to publish it, if we are chosen, and draw attention to Rock Spring Farm and the horse rescue work that we will organize there. I do understand that the storybook will not be judged as part of the application but only used as supporting evidence of my abilities. I plan to host creative writing workshops and plein air painting events, but as the story expresses, the main focus of our work will always be the commitment to horse
Western Oregon is a standard 4-year, medium sized college. It is located in the small, rural town of Monmouth, but only 10 miles from an urban city. Being primarily residential, Western Oregon brings a certain family vibe, which they claim you cannot find anywhere else. Many students say that their favorite part of Western Oregon is the size, since it gave them more one-on-one time with their professors. There are a total of eighty-three majors. Before financial aid and any scholarship money are entered the tuition is $8,274 for in-state students, while out-of-state student’s tuition is $21,759.
Narrative stories or essays can expand through a wide variety. Although a narrative is telling a story, it could be a person narrative or something they have experienced. This allows others to become creative when telling their stories. Reading “The Sanctuary of School”and “Tell Me Something”, the authors used various ways of writing and publishing a narrative story.
This section that I have chosen to write up consists of multiple short stories, literary circles, and writing. The students will first participate
“Every time you dream at night, the dream has holes in it. You have to do something to fix those holes and make the dream become a reality,” my father often told me. Although I was very young when my dad passed away, he provided tremendous inspiration and encouragement to pursue my passions that continue to influence my life and my future endeavors. As a child, one of my favorite pastimes was acting; I would routinely act in videos with my friend while my dad filmed us. Later, I assumed responsibility for filming while my friend would act. I instantly fell in love with videography. I was enthralled with how videography could capture my point of view of the world, which prompted me to try photography. Once I began photography, I knew I wanted
I have fallen in love with UNCW after first-hand seeing it for myself last summer. I know a lot of alumni from UNCW and have heard nothing but positive things about the school, teachers, and its courses. I am interested in majoring marketing or business and UNCW excels in both of these areas for me. In addition, it provides many courses that assist me in meeting my goals for my career. I would love to attend UNCW because it is close to my hometown but also far enough to where I can be an independent. Not only do I believe the University of North Carolina Wilmington is the right fit for me and my future career but also has every aspect that I am looking for in a college. It has the perfect location, the perfect size, very affordable, and the
Throughout my life I’ve wanted to be everything ranging from a ballerina to a surgeon, but the job that I can truly see myself doing is working abroad in women’s rights. When I started my college search, the first thing I looked for in a school was a program that allowed me to pursue both my interest in foreign studies and women’s rights. Tulane offers extensive programs abroad and through the school that would allow me to pursue my interests in women’s rights and international studies; however, why I want to attend Tulane doesn’t just lie with the majors offered. The reasons I am drawn to Tulane comes down to three things: the location, the diversity of the school, and the importance Tulane puts on social action.
My story is about student created music at Decatur High School and how it affects the students at the school. This story will have the news values of proximity and novelty. This story is novel because at our high school we have so many artist and most high schools don't have as many artist as we do at our school. My target audience is people that go to Decatur High School because the story revolves around their feelings about the music at there school, which also makes this story have the news value of proximity, the story takes place in my target audience's school. The story “Daydreaming provides break from the ‘informational flow” by Pim Otero is my inspiration for this story because I really liked how in that story they focused on one person
Short stories can be bland and boring. As you read some of them, you can feel emotion or just read a boring story about how something changed their life, but these three stories are interesting because they develop horror. These short stories use different elements to create horror. “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “A Rose for Emily,”, and “The Lottery” develop horror/gothic elements.

Throughout my childhood, I’ve always wanted to tell a story from my perspective. I was born with introverted tendencies, and I still have a hard time articulating to people my thoughts. But creating short films has always been an effective medium to express my true self to the audience around me. Most importantly, creating short stories helps me to understand who I am. I would like to be considered for the IFDM program because I believe I was born to tell a story, and I would like the experience of others to help shape my influence.
Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfect essay, story, letter, and assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me improve.
