The United States of America implemented one of the greatest rights in our society. A few amendments to the Constitution states that every American citizen who is of legal voting age has the right to vote no matter of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. It took many years, and many people have fought for us to have this privilege. And, to be more precise, it took one hundred years and five amendments to end voter discrimination. Despite all the sacrifices, many people choose not to vote thinking that one vote does not count, but that may have catastrophic consequences for people all over the world because U.S. is a major world power.

First and for most, the education one has is the single most important factor in predicting whether they vote. Although mostly, all American citizens know they have the right to vote, they do not know how to get registered or where to vote. That does seem like a poor excuse, considering we live in a technology based society and pretty much anything can be looked up online. Despite the fact that some citizens truly do not understand the importance of voting, some choose to not understand it.

Voting is our voice and it must be heard in order to resolve some issues. Voicing our opinions is so important in the United States of America and to our community. When you vote you choose a person who has simpler values you do. If you don’t vote, you’re allowing others to speak for you and that may result in the wrong candidate to be elected. Lastly by voting you earn credibility for example, in case taxes go up and you’re complaining to someone you are allowed because you did your part by casting your vote.

It is election year in 2016, and we will be electing our President of the United States for the next 4 years putting them in this role until 2020. That means, that we are allowing this person to represent our country, and they should represent what the majority of this country values, being that they were elected from majority vote. Of course this is in a perfect world, in which every citizen, who is of voting age in this country, casts a vote supporting the candidate they believe will uphold their beliefs, and has what it takes to lead this country. Unfortunately, this is and has never been the case. There are actually many people in this country who choose to not participate in elections, not only on the federal level, but also during state and local elections. People choosing not to vote causes for a lot of people’s beliefs, values, and opinions to go unheard, which leads to those people being left without a leader to carry their voices.
