Statistics are sets of mathematical equations that are used to analyze and interpret what is happening in the world around us. In fact statistics are used on an everyday basis such as;
1. Weather forcasts, use statistics that compare prior weather conditions with current weather to predict and determine the weather in the upcoming days. They can determine the amout of rainfall, the average tempreture of the wind speed.
2. Emergency Preparedness, as emergency crews rely on statistics, if the forecast indicated that a cyclone or flooding is likely to occur, emergency agencies are ready to rescue and save people.
3. Police officers are also known to use statistics in several ways, firstly they study crime rates in different neighborhoods to show the need for additional police force. Secondly, to find out what intersections have a high rate for accidents or deaths and are able to watch those intersections and reduce the number of accidents.
4. Sport recruiters commonly use statistics to find potential athletes. They also use statistics to decide which players are doing well amd they try to predict which players will bring the best results for the game.

In statistics, that single value is called the central tendency and mean, median and mode are all ways to describe it. The mean is the average of all numbers. To find the mean, add up the values in the data set and then divide by the number of values that you added. To find the median, list the values of the data set in numerical order and identify which value appears in the middle of the list. The mode is the number that occurs most often within a set of numbers to find the mode, identify which value in the data set occurs most
Statistics provides us with very useful tools and techniques that aide us in dealing with real world scenarios. I have been able to learn several useful concepts by studying statistics that can aide me in making rational and informed decisions that are supported by the analysis results. Statistics as a discipline is the application and development of various processes put in place to gather, interpret, and analyse the information. The quantification of biological, social, and scientific phenomenons, design and analysis of experiments and surveys, and application of
• Provide at least two examples or problem situations in which statistics was used or could be used.
For this week's lecture, Dr. David Laude focused on the reasons why people often hate statistics by giving his input on how it allows for the better understanding and evaluation of data collected. By illustrating different ways in which people use statistics to reach a conclusion, the professor was able to highlight the way these influence decision-making scenarios. To establish his point, the professor purposely explained statistics with the use of scenarios that would make students attentive on the subject. like the ways in which statistics measures a student’s capabilities to perform in the university.
Statistics is defined as “the science that deals with the collection, classification, analysis, and numerical facts or data” (Dictionary.com,2012). Sometimes it is important to analyze statistical data in order to understand how something works or doesn’t work. In the case of American public education, there is tons of statistical data being thrown around, but what do all of these numbers really mean? How does this data help us? Although statistics provide clarity for constant scrutiny to the public education school system, they also help us to understand what were doing wrong in the classroom. In comparison of two different states, Nevada and Wisconsin lay at two very
Statistics involves framing questions in a context, then collecting and analyzing data for interpretation. Probability is about chance and fairness with assigned values. Many mathematics instructors teach this discipline in a procedural manner, causing students to miss its essence.
Statistics are used in many different ways in my workplace. The use of statistics is for the improvement of quality care and safety. Statistics are also used to measure employee compliance in regards to hand washing and proper use of policies and procedures. We also use charts and graphs to show infection rates, skin integrity, falls within the facility, budget concerns, and many more. These graphs help hospital personal improve care and safety to provide quality care to all patients. Graphs can also be used to measure patient and employee satisfaction.
Using these numbers, they can then create several mathematical models that then are used for statistical comparison of each of the players. Football uses statistics of everything like how many passes or catches a player makes. Then some of the coaches of the different teams use these statistics to compare each of the achievements the player makes. Realizing that there is the use of mathematics in everything like a simple and fun football game, shows me that you can calculate a lot of things and get statistics from them, these can help me in my math course and during my life because the use of statistics and the information I can get can make me know the probabilities of things happening or like the coaches in the teams that use them to compare things, I can use them for that too. I should use statistics more in my life when they can apply because they can make a difference in how I see things and make my life easier if I know what are the probabilities of an event happening, even if I am trying to choose between several things, I can get statistics to see which one is better or which one is the best option
Stats are continuing to grow in prevalence in all sports as a partial result of Moneyball and are seen as a valuable resource. There are always new innovators coming along increasing the prevalence and ability that statistics have. An example of this is Wenger an innovator in using statistics in soccer “A pioneer in using data analysis to monitor and improve performance, he ended the culture of heavy drinking at Arsenal and introduced dietary controls and a strict fitness regime”(Kucharski). Wenger is the
There are ten things stats is very important for such as: weather forecasts, emergency preparedness, predicting diseases, medical studies, genetics, political campaigns, insurance, consumer goods, quality testing, and the stock market. Weather forecasts use stats to predict the weather using prior conditions, the weather forecasts tells us how to prepare for the day and what to expect throughout the day. Emergency teams use the weather forecasts to tell them to be ready or not to help people they use statistics to tell them when danger may occur. When predicting disease the lady or man telling you about the deaths or the disease is spreading it may not
Statistics is a mathematical science pertaining to the collection, analysis, interpretation or explanation, and presentation of data. It is applicable to a wide variety of academic disciplines, from the physical and social sciences to the humanities. Statistics are also used for making informed decisions and misused for other reasons in all areas of business and government. Statistical methods can be used to summarize or describe a collection of data; this is called descriptive statistics. In addition, patterns in the data may be modeled in a way that accounts for randomness and uncertainty in the observations, and then used to draw inferences about the process or population being studied; this is called inferential statistics. Both
Well I am in the Army, and I am the Administrative supervisor for the dining facility, and we use statistics to help us track several things. The dining facility I work in feeds Soldiers and civilians, contractors and Department of Defense employees. The groups of personnel listed above must be tracked and managed separately so we can determine how often each group dine in and how frequently. Statistics gives us the tools to create charts and graphs that enable my Soldiers to track and monitor how often each group eats in our facility and how frequently (Mirabella, 2011). Statistics allows us to keep a realistic track record of diners in our facility. By having accurate information on the number of patrons dining at our establishment on
Statistics provide hard and fast numbers or evidence to support what is being reported. If statistics are present we may instantly believe what we hear. On the other hand, little or no statistics are presented may result in instant skepticism or disbelief.
The key terms and definitions that I will be using are: statistics, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, range, and population standard deviation. Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data in order to make decisions. The mean of a data set is the sum of the data entries divided by the number of entries. The median of a data set is the value that lies in the middle of the data when the data set is ordered. The mode of a data set is the data entry that occurs with the greatest frequency. Standard deviation is a quantity calculated to indicate the extent of deviation for a group as a whole. The range of a data set is the difference between the maximum and minimum data entries in the set. The population standard deviation of a population data set of N entries is the square root of the population variance (Larson & Farber, 2014).
Statistics isn’t like any other type of math where you see a lot of x and y but you don’t see where you’re going to actually use it in your day-to-day life. Statistics is surrounding you no matter where you are, or what you’re doing. Even with this being true there’s still an alarming amount of people who don’t know what statisticians are doing to come up with these statistics. The problem with this is, if you don’t know what they should be doing then you don’t know when they are doing it wrong.
The academic articles that have been looked into on this subject have offered various moral principles to be followed in tending to the moral issues that emerge in the act of statistics. The moral principle from the articles that I, for one, find most relevant is maintaining integrity by being honest and objective (Ostapski and Superville, 2001). I trust that this rule has a considerable measure to do with character in light of the fact that keeping in mind the end goal to be straightforward you need to have the character to need to do both of those things?. In the bible, i is said that "The expression of God is living and
