The survey was conducted among the Sunshine Coast residents and 90% residents use social media. This result mirrors Cowling’s finding (2016) that there are 69% Australians use social media. Three benefits are given for 20 residents to rank. The line chart shows that 13 interviewees consider the social media has a significant positive impact on business and Australian economy. Because 70% of residents have bought goods on social media, and they think social media attract many local buyer and some international costumers. And advertisements on social media can help businessman to sell more goods. In addition, many interviewees think convenience is the most important benefit of social media, the reasons are people can shop, work and talk with far away friend at home. Five drawbacks are given for 20 residents to rank. The line chart shows 9 out of 20 interviewees consider social media addiction is the most important drawback. And 6 out of 20 interviewees think health problems are another important drawback. The increase of social media always causes some physical and mental health problems. In addition, decrease in education, fraud and cyberbullying are another three drawbacks, but there are not many Sunshine Coast residents think those are one of the important drawbacks. Due to reduce the social media addiction, especially for children, 80% of residents think parents and teachers should encourage children to spend less time on social media. Also, the residents consider children need more face-to-face time with their friends.
