He wants to see the workplace transformed to something bigger and better. Trump wants to make a difference in American workers lives. ‘The politics of guaranteed paid leave remain uncertain, however. President-elect Donald Trump during the campaign surprised many in the Republican Party by proposing a modest paid maternity leave policy. Republicans in Congress might oppose guaranteed paid leave in any form or promote their own reform (Johnson, Robert Wood)’. He wants to be able to give the fathers a 6-week paid leaves after his wife has a baby. ‘President-elect Trump's plan would guarantee six weeks
Becoming a parent is beautiful yet stressful time in many people's lives. Emotions of joy and worry fill the mind of expecting parents as they work to provide a loving and financially stable home for their family. Both parents wish to actively support their child and their spouse during this time of transition, however, corporations are making this task difficult. Maternity leave is a benefit that most companies provide, but only for their female employees. Male employees are not given the same opportunity to share the responsibility of childcare with their wife or to develop a bond early on with their child. Providing fathers maternity leave would give them time to dedicate themselves to the growth of their child, allow the mother to heal from giving birth, and promote equality within the family unit and in the workplace.
As we move into the new millennium more and more employers are allowing, some are even encouraging, their employees to bring their newborn babies to work with them. This is probably one of the greatest changes in child care norms that this country has seen in the past 30 years. Once upon a time, when a woman had a baby she almost always quit her job to raise her child, depending on her husband to support her and her child. Then along came the idea of maternity leave. This is when a woman takes a certain amount of time off to be with newborn. Once this time period was up, the woman still had a job to go back to. This meant that women no longer had to rely on their husbands for support. Unfortunately it also

Today there are two countries in the world that do not currently guarantee paid maternity leave for employed new mothers and/or expecting mothers, those countries are the United States and Papua New Guinea, according to the International Labour Organization, an United Nations agency, which recommends a minimum 18 week maternity leave (Rubin 2016, p.1). In recent years, the controversial issue of guaranteed maternal leave has been a prominent topic of debate amongst political activists and elites, particularly in the United States, where reform is a feasible option but has yet to be achieved. It is this absence of policy that serves to provide guaranteed maternal for all working mothers that has been linked to significant health related issues; these adverse effects not only impacts those mothers, but their children as well. Although paid maternal leave remains a controversial matter, policy reform that implements such leave is not only a feasible option in the United States, both economically and politically, it is an ethical necessity in order to facilitate the well-being of American women. Thus, in order to work toward ethical political/governmental policy that supports the well-being of women in the United States’ workforce, it is crucial that guaranteed paid maternal policy is implemented.
“I have made tough decisions, always with an eye toward the bottom line. Perhaps it’s time America was run like a business,” Donald Trump. While providing false solutions to the declining workforce in the Rust Belt, Trump’s labor plan poses as a risk to labor unions since most of the legislation that Trump supports the decomposition of labor unions. During a National Public Radio interview with AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, Trumka mentions how Trump’s plans will lead to the breakdown of labor unions. Trumka mentioned, “ [Richard ]Trumka: ‘He supports legislation to destroy unions. And he's consistently outsourced American jobs to line his own pockets. Trump wants our vote, so he'll say just about anything to get it’ ”(Labor Article 1). Here, Trumka addresses some of the flaws about Trump’s plans for labor unions. First, Trump is being hypocritical by outsourcing jobs to foreign nations to create his line of items such as clothing, etc. Trumka also gave insight into some of the things that are to be expected from Trump as president since Trump is best represented as a person who does not keep their word or does not deliver on his promises. With these looming problems in his Labor plans, Trump will hurt jobs in the United States as well as lead to the breakdown of labor
"Applicant's will need to show that they can financially support themselves and their families, and demonstrate skills that can contribute to the US economy," Donald Trump said. He added "They’re not going to come in and just immediately collect welfare." Until you are an American citizen for at least 5 years, the majority of immigrants cannot receive food stamps, Medicaid, and Social Security. Donald Trump often speaks against illegal immigration and has accused immigrants of stealing jobs from American workers and blames them for crime in the country. He suggests that the RAISE Act will "reduce poverty, increase wages, and save tax payers billions and billions of dollars". The remarks made caused huge controversy, many people stuck by his wide because he made it seem like it was in their favor to pass this Act. He continued to endorse this Act by saying "the current immigration system is unfair and that it benefits new immigrants over "struggling American families". Despite the results that immigrants actually served a positive purpose in the United States serving less crime than native-born American's and helped boost the economy.
Trump’s first 100 days took a chief executive approach; busy, bold, and tons of hard work and dedication. Trump completed and has accomplished more in office in 100 days than any other President since FDR. Before he took office and swear oath, he said there will be major changes. He wanted to repeal and replace Obamacare, change some illegal immigration rights, and pursue tax overhaul. Some say his results are mixed, are they really? Has he been successful in his first 100 days? As a republican, I highly agree and support Trump during his 100 days in office. He got stuff done to fix the country like he said he would.
Donald Trump’s policies on taxes are geared towards helping the economy recovering and the establishment of more jobs. Trump wishes to cut down the income so it no longer negatively effects the middle
Boo hoo- Josh Levs only gets two weeks of paid parental leave in addition to ten weeks of unpaid leave, and he seems very distressed about it. While his experiencing privileges far from the ordinary, the article made it seem like Time Warner was unfair with him. At first, I thought the article was a joke because there are far more important issues that need to be addressed regarding parental leave, for instance, across the board paid maternal leave. However, after giving it some thought, men should have the opportunity to spend time with their children during this crucial developmental period. If we push the government to improve men’s family rights, we could potentially break gender roles and improve equity in the workforce.
Miller opens the discussion on the campaign issue of paid leave by comparing the views of both parties and how they are looking into policies that will address challenges for working families, lifting middle class standards, and appeal to female workers. Democratic candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley, have proposed paid leave and their approach requires the government to operate a paid leave program while Marco Rubio, a republican candidate, advocates giving tax incentives so businesses would offer it. Rubio's plan provides a 25% tax credit to employers. Miller argues that Rubio's plan won't work because similar government sponsored programs have exhibited little change and it is unlikely to encourage employers who don't offer paid
Despite the advantages of paid parental leave, the United States trails behind other developed countries in guaranteeing these options. In fact, America is currently “one of the only two nations (the other being Papua New Guinea) that do not guarantee paid maternity leave to new mothers” (Baum II and Ruhm 333). Last year, according to the Pew Research Center, only fourteen percent of workers had access to paid family leave (Desilver). Instead of choosing to extend paid leave for their employees, many American businesses opt to offer unpaid family leave that is available to almost ninety
