I wonder and ask myself this question all the time but I always can’t seem to find an answer. What I do know is when it comes to how they started the Girl Scout program and some reasons why girls like to be in Girl Scouts. I am about to tell you some reasons about why boys shouldn’t be allowed in Girl Scouts. Girls like me need a break from guys and Girl Scouts is a way for me and other girls to do that and it makes some girls uncomfortable to go to camps because believe me it’s hard to be at a camp with guys sometimes. Also it’s a good way for guys to get a break from girls so they should just to stay in Boy Scouts we maybe different programs but it’s nice to get away from the real world sometimes agree with me on that. For me it would be weird to have guys at the Girl Scout camps because most are just have one gender bathroom and that’s for girls. People think “oh no you can just add on and put a different bathroom there” just imagine your daughter sharing a bathroom with a guy that you don’t even know. If I had kids that would fear me because of my child’s own protection. It’s …show more content…
I always thought that it would be ok for boys and girls to be together but if you look around their camp grounds they are not prepared for the future camps. They will need to make more cabins and probably so people don’t refuse to go to camp to make separate bathrooms and cabins. I don’t agree with these decisions they are planning on doing because they never really looked into why they are separate. Probably the first thing you think is ‘it isn’t fair’ no but it’s fair enough where we can show who we really are by for Girl Scouts doing a Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award. These make girl a better person and it’s the same for a Boy scout but it is called something different and they have one award it’s called The Eagle
Deborah Tannen's book, The Argument Culture, is a compelling piece that looks at the perceived "argument culture" that is permeating the United States and the West in general. I do agree with what Ms. Tannen is saying, that there is a form of argument culture, but I think it could be argued that there is a contrasting part of American society called a "nice culture" as well. On the one hand, you have people who will argue about topics whenever the opportunity arises, but on the other hand you have people who will avoid confrontation at all costs. Ms. Tannen somewhat acknowledges other ethnic cultures in the United States that tend to argue in different ways, "You do not have to go to a foreign country to experience these cultural differences [of how people argue in different cultures.] Americans of different ethnic backgrounds can experience them just by making friends." (Tannen, 211)Acknowledging ethnic culture differences is important but to homogenize it into just an argument culture is wrong. It could still be argued that there is a converse culture in the United States that is based around niceness and civility. You can see it in the world around you where you are taught to use your manners as much as possible or in fast food jobs where workers are supposed to be as "nice" as possible and if anybody makes a mistake they are supposed to apologize as sincerely as possible. Another example of this nice culture is contrast to the argument culture is when adults are arguing
One major controversy in effect today is whether girls should be allowed to join the Boy Scouts of America or should there be a distinct separation between the girls and boys. In the article, “Boy Scouts Face Renewed Push to Let Girls Join the Ranks” by David Crary, several girls across the nation have took it upon themselves to try and join the Boy Scouts of America. Some believe that girls should be able to join in order to gain the same scouting experience as the boys in the organization. Others including myself, believe that if the girl scouts aren’t happy with their scouting, they should take the initiative to make a difference in their own community.
In the beginning of the book Scout was a tomboy. When they were playing the Boo Radley game, they got caught by Atticus, and Scout said they shouldn’t play anymore, Jem said, “Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that’s why other people hated them so, and I started behaving like one I could just go off and find some to play with”(Lee, 55). Scout hated the fact that she was a girl. Also, when Jem called Scout a girl she was offended. Also, when Mr. Avery was peeing, Scout felt left out because she doesn't have a penis. Later in the book scout wanted to be a woman. For example, when Scout was asked to join Aunt Alexandria for some refreshments, Scout agreed to, and when they were explaining Scout new thing about woman, she said, “This was a part of her campaign to teach me to be a lady” (Lee,307). This clearly shows that scout is more interested in becoming a woman instead of being a tomboy. Before, she wouldn’t even go near a dress. This shows how Scout has evolved the most throughout To kill a
When you think of the military, you don’t really think of women in the military. It’s a very controversial topic of women in the military. Some people despise the thought of a Female in the military, and other people, like me, really could care less. There are a lot of mini topics within this topic that makes this so controversial. One of the more common ones is, Women don’t get the same benefits as men get, and they are forbidden to engage in combat. Witch in my opinion makes no sense. They choose to be in the army, and they knew what that meant for them and for their families, so I say let them experience everything that being in the military entails. There are some very horrifying things that can happen to women, one that might not even
Gender differences is something that was a major problem in the book with Scout. Scout is a tomboy and she does not like to wear dresses and prefers to wear overalls like Jem, she would rather get into fist fights then sit down and be lady-like. This is also why she is named scout rathe then Jean Louise her given name, but Aunt Alexandra does not like this and tries in every way to get Scout to become a lady, without a mother in her life Aunt Alexandra and Calpurnia are the closes things she got with Calpurnia not caring as much and Aunt Alexandra caring a lot more. Scout does try to be a lady when Aunt Alexandra missionary group comes over and sits down with them and makes conversation as best she can, but she does not fit in with them and
Girl Scouts is a program and community for young girls. The Girl, in Girl Scouts, stands for Go-getter, Innovative, Risk-taker, Leader™. I believe in all of these things. I think Girl Scouts is a great opportunity for girls to become confident with themselves, learn to be kind and selfless and learn to be a leader. I have been a Girl Scout for a long time now, and am working on my silver award. I feel that all girls should have the ability to be a Girl Scout and learn how to make the world a better place.
Most importantly, girls should not be separated by there sexually. Secondly, girls can do mostly the same things that boys can do. In addition, if girls don't play with boys on sports teams. In this easy evidence will clearly show why girls should be allowed to be on boys sport teams.
Throughout the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, there is a strong sense of gender discrimination. First, Scout is mocked against for being a Tomboy. Women in the story are believed to need to act, speak, and dress a certain way to be considered a lady. Scout shies away from the perceived ways a lady needs to act and therefore is not considered to be a lady. Characters in the story like Aunt Alexandra and Ms. Stephanie give Scout a hard time for not acting a way a lady is supposed to act in Maycomb, and they make it their mission to fix it. They say things like “It would be best for you to have some feminine influence” (Lee 140) and “Don’t talk like that in front of
Whether or not being raised by a single father and an older brother had anything to do with it, Scout grows up believing that being a girl meant that she couldn’t have any fun. Girls have to be proper by wearing dresses. They can’t run around and play outside or swear. Women also don’t always say what they mean and can be catty with each other. Scout would rather hang out with the men who are blunt and say straight up what they think or how they feel about something.
er: Should girls be allowed into the boy scouts? In 2018, The Boy Scouts of America whom were founded in 1910 will navigate into uncharted waters and allow girls to join their 107-year-old club and no secret password in needed for entry. The BSA for short, was established to give boys and young men a place to together learn responsibility, self-reliance and participate in activities that enable them to develop the characteristics that would enable them to be community leaders, proud fathers and handy husbands. The prestigious honor to reach the level of Eagle Scout is well recognized and should be due to the long hours of hard work and dedication put into the achievement. However, girls and boys are fundamentally different and girls should not be allowed to join the ranks of the Boy
They are like the Boy Scouts except the Boy Scouts attempt and practice more "manly" activities like fire building and rifle shooting while the Girl Scouts focus on the more "woman" side of things like knitting, first aid, and managing money. This is what sparked the movement for the introduction of women into the Boy Scouts. The girls wanted to do things like build shelters and make fire. This leads you to think that Girl Scouts would be happy with the changes, but it is quite the opposite. The Girl Scouts want girls for the same reasons that Boy Scouts want boys. They need to be around the same gender to feel comfortable being themselves. Instead of allowing girls into the Boy Scouts, The Girl Scouts should work to encompass all the needs of their members, and that’s exactly what they did in order to counteract the assault by the Boy Scouts. "Girl Scout leaders said they were blindsided by the move, and they are gearing up an aggressive campaign to recruit and retain girls as members. That includes 23 new merit badges focusing on outdoors and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)" (Harrison 1). This act of social justice has done nothing to help the girl youth of America. Its only made the situation more political and has brought down this burning web of social change onto the young citizens of America. The social pressures that social justice claim to relive are only added upon when we force our youth to think about such rudimentary and absurd things like if they need to sacrifice what they want in order to be fair to every last irritated parent. Do we really want our future leaders to be so conscious of their actions that they can't do anything in fear of offending someone? " "See this badge?" a future Scout may say. "Got that for helping a little old person across the street." You mean a little old lady? "Nuh-uh. See this badge? That's for not misgendering." Great.
In To Kill A Mockingbird, we are given the story through the perception of Scout, who is 6 years old at the start of the novel. We see her relationship with her father, Atticus, that seems rather loving despite her statements of his treatment of his kids being of “courteous detachment” (6). He treats with respect and doesn't baby them. Things are hidden by him from Scout and her brother, but at other times Atticus is very direct about the way things are and what is expected of them. This leads to Scout being allowed to act mostly as she pleases rather than forcing her into a gendered role.
Although as a community we should have never let a situation like catcalling go as far as it has, where is the line drawn between a compliment and a harassment? There is no line, all types of sexual comments towards a female, or even a male, needs to be considered harassment. In today's society, catcalling has become more of the ‘social norm.’ According to stopstreetharassment.org, over 99% of women who took their survey had admitted to being harassed in some sort.
Women should have the opportunity to join the military due to personal reasons, while receiving the same benefits as men. The individual, as well as the military itself, gains from the presence and persistence of women that serve in the armed forces. Roles in the military and the way women are treated all refer back to equality and it’s crucial for women to have the same rights as men. It can influence other members of the military as well as those who wish to join them. For years, influential people have worked so hard to gain equal rights for all those who live. Women’s rights have drastically changed over the years, but women’s rights are still not equivalent to men’s rights and roles, especially in the
Marijuana, the plant that has caused many debates, the plant that has cost many their entire lives, the one plant that could most possibly be the most debatable thing in the United States. This plant has many names such as Pot, Weed, Stinkweed, Herb, Skunk, and many more. But no matter the name this plant is still one of the controversial things that plague the United States today. With many people being imprisoned for it everyday and the amount of money the government has spent to keep this so called bad drug on our streets. Today many Americans say that this drug should be legal, and yet many also say it should be illegal, but should this drug be illegal to the citizens of the US. This simple questions is very easy to answer saying how the government has reacted to many other substances and drugs that are perfectly legal and some even have an age limit. The answer to the debate that has sparked some of the most controversy is yes Marijuana should be legal, this would have more pros than cons if dealt with right by enforcing the correct laws and rules.
