School is a place for education and not looks. This is relevant to my topic because school uniforms help a student focus on education and not how they look in the classroom. Today students need to focus on getting good grades and their attendance before worrying about how they can impress other students. One thing it helps is school work and focus in the classroom. It has led to students having better behavior and improving attendance. Uniforms are also cost effective for parents that can't afford name brand clothes. Not only do school uniforms help better education, but their pride in their school has risen. It encourages team spirit and pride of the school they represent. Why do coaches have athletes wear matching uniforms? Well it …show more content…
Students resist peer pressure in buy trendy and expensive clothes. THe estimated annual cost of a uniform is 150$ which includes: a T-shirt, pants, tie, skirt/ blouse ( if female ) and jacket for cold weather (“K12”). Which compared to name brand that might be one pair of shoes, on average a pair of Nike, Jordans can cost from 160$ to 180$ per pair. Buying two sets of uniforms compared to buying a 20$ t-shirt, 30$ pair of pants, 50$ jacket. That's only 80$ and only three things. This is a more cost efficient way of buy clothes. This isn't even include the less fortunate families out there this is a blessing to them. They probably couldn't even afford all the trendy clothes this is better for poor families, but also a way for middle class families to save …show more content…
Well studies show children with uniforms are more likely to affect the way they act in school with their behavior and their attendance. Academics are a whole other subject, uniforms are not proven to help grades climb, but it is proven to help behavior and pride in their school in which they attend. School pride is almost as important as schools academies. School uniforms help schools, academic reputation and help families. Cost is one of the major factors in this process. Behavior is proven to be affected positively with uniforms. One recommendation, I would make is letting schools try uniforms. See if it really helps improve students in the school district and if it doesn't implement it into the school rules. Nothing bad can come from trying to see if something helps school, perform
On the one hand, school uniforms create a school community, making everyone look alike whether if they come from different backgrounds, which reduce bullying over poor-looking students, competition over choices of fashion and peer pressure. School uniforms also represent each school, making them look unique and increase pride in their community.
Along with easy purchase, uniforms also help cut down bullying. Implementing uniforms gives kids a better sense of school pride, in which they care more about the school and each other. For example when Long Beach introduced uniforms in 1995 they received data that showed the in school fights decreased by 38%, suspension rates dropped by 90% and furthermore the overall crime rates dropped by 91%. School uniforms would work in the same way an athletic team uniform would; it would give them a sense of pride and belonging. Like athletic teams, when a team member or student would wear their jersey, or in this case uniform, they would cloak themselves in their school color they would feel obligated to make sure they represent the best for their school to show that they care and they are going to prove how exceptional their school is. A uniform can improve the overall school and also move beyond the school halls and out to the community. Most bullies make fun of a kid by how he or she looks, so by schools implementing uniforms they “level the playing fields”
Additionally school uniforms can express schools that they are one! Schools can display that they are one. “ An attractive standard of dress enhance of school spirit, good self-image, and school unity” What this demonstrates that people are one can prove to people that school are well worthy of their child to succeed in the future and become a great scholar, and as stated before can express unity to school pride. Unlike all of these pros on why we should have uniforms there are also some conflict and other people do think
School uniforms are also beneficial in preventing visual distraction amongst the student body within the classroom, because with an effective school uniform policy there are much less dress code violations from both genders that can be seen as provocative attire. .
Second, school uniforms will increase student’s academic success significantly. With school uniforms, it is guaranteed that they will not be a distraction to students. In schools where no uniforms are implemented, students may focus a considerably large amount on what other students are wearing, instead of focusing on the learning. I now attend a public university, where students are free to wear and look however they please. I tend to notice what certain students are wearing when
School uniforms have been around forever, they go hand in hand with school. There is good reason for that aswell, uniforms have been shown promote learning and help kid stay focused. In addition school uniforms make the student take a more serious interest in school, similar
Uniforms will help prevent students from bullying each other for the apparel they wear and their personal opinion of what is trendy. Finally, uniforms will help parents with financial problems not have to buy so many outfit’s for their child at the beginning of the school year. Public school uniforms are all around better for parents and
First, school uniforms would enhance school pride, unity, and community spirit by making everyone feel like they belong and fit in with their school. Throughout the school, teachers would increase their level of caring, respect, and trust of students. Additionally students would feel important and as if they are a part of a team by wearing a uniform.
Though the simplicity of school uniforms limit self-expression, they increase the overall quality of a student’s education. More schools, both public and private, are adopting uniforms in order to reduce crime and decrease the amount of distractions in the learning environment. Uniforms can oftentimes be costly and eliminate the amount of leeway students have when it comes to personalizing their appearance. However, uniforms better the school experience for a majority of students who wear them.
Another big benefit to having a school uniform is the increase of student safety in multiple things. The first, is the reduction of bullying. This happens at schools with mandatory uniforms because it gives bullies less ammunition. Bullies have less ammunition because social status and wealth are not visible to other students because everyone is wearing the same thing. Another thing more broad than bullying is physical student safety. For example, at a K-8 school system in Long Beach,CA enforced a two year mandatory uniform policy and the results were staggering. Assault reports dropped by 34%. Sex offences got cut by a whopping 74%! Fighting incidents decreased by 51%, and vandalism dropped by 18%. It is crazy to me how much things can improve in just two short years by having kids wear uniforms. One more thing, is that it makes it a lot easier to identify trespassers. I mean think of all the school shootings that have
School uniforms are beneficial in numerous ways. For instance, school uniforms allow for a sense of belonging in one’s community and school setting.
Students believe that the way they are dressed is more important than the grades they make. The students with less money, that can’t buy all the newest clothes, tend to not go to school as much, because they won’t fit in. There for students in schools with uniform will have more time to focus on more important things, like school work. With uniforms students don’t have to go to the mall every week looking for new clothes to wear. Also if a school has no uniforms students will feel that they need to have a certain look to fit in, and many will be ridiculed if they don’t achieve this “look.”
School uniforms have always been a topic of discussion between teachers, students, and parents. People want to know how the uniforms will affect the students. Many of the schools that want to enforce a school uniform policy want to end problems that clothing may cause. School uniforms may help many aspects of a student's school life. Uniforms may help many different aspects of a student’s life, such as increasing test scores, decreasing bullying, in addition, and preparing students for the workplace.
Fashion has always made a huge impact on the youth of all ages. Every student fights to be deemed the coolest in school by wearing the most popular styles. All this focus on who looks the best, takes away from what really matters; learning. School uniforms should be a requirement in public schools because it reduces peer pressure and discrimination, decreases gang activity, leaves more time for students to be focused on learning, and enhances self-esteem.
About one in five public schools in the US are requiring students to wear a uniform (Flam). Children at these schools are all forced to wear the same bleak clothing as everyone else, day after day. They have little outlet for self expression which often makes students feel worse about themselves or resort to unsafe behaviors as a method of showing their personality. Advocates claim school uniforms might help kids feel a sense of community and contribute to academic success. However, they curb children’s social development and do not benefit students as proponents argue.
