There are many students who realize that it is important to get good grades. But those students are also stressed, exhausted, and frustrated. How would you feel if you had to study for more than three hours a day just to earn a good grade? If you’re a student, you probably fall into the category of those who do not have time to do things other than school. You may also feel as though homework doesn't actually do anything. Most students get so busy with activities outside of school and just simply do not have time to do homework or study for a test for 5 hours. So ask yourself, is all of this necessary? Or can all of this unnecessary stress be avoided?
Of course, nobody truly knows if homework is actually effective or not. It may be stressing student out for no good reason. Many students said they often do homework they see as “pointless” or “mindless” in order to keep their grades up. Homework should have a purpose and a benefit. It should be designed to actually teach kids instead of stress them out. It would be one thing to have as much homework that is assigned if students actually learned or benefited from it, but it doesn't do anything besides worry them.
In addition, most kids do not have hardly any time to do anything other than school related things. All because society tells them that they should keep up their

Most students are tired and worn out by the third month of school. A majority of students don’t have time to do other things because of homework, they don’t believe that homework is actually efficient, and just do not have time to do homework. The stress level for most teens is through the roof nowadays and is 63% higher than what is was in the 1980’s and all of it might be unnecessary. Is it wrong for kids today to not want to do their work or do they have a point? If you were put in the same position as most students, you would think the excessive amount of homework is
Studies show homework barely makes a difference. Kids claim homework is useless to them, and they might be right. Homework can be hard for kids and when they have trouble then it is harder for them to understand what the instructions are. Kids also get worried when they forget their homework. I think you should be able to turn in homework a day early or a day late. Most importantly kids do not perform better by a lot when they do homework. I think kids should have no homework.
Kids shouldn't have homework. Kids have stuff to do like sports, spending time with family and working. Instead of doing 6 or so hours of homework every night. “homework came in behind not only socializing but also exercise or sports as well as working for pay.” (Gazette, par. 24) I agree because some students have to rush to get their homework done at lunch or before school because they either have sports or have to go to work everyday.
I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years, I have found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very stressed out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test scores. Harris Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to 90 minute of homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with much lower scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do. Firstly, students have to wake up from seven until two o'clock everyday,
Having too much homework causes students large amounts of stress and lack of sleep that can cause health problems. On a survey that Stanford researchers tested on 4317 students, fifty-six percent of the students considered homework a primary source of stress, forty-three percent of the students viewed tests as a primary stressor, thirty-three percent put pressure to get good grades in that category (Parker). Less than one percent of the students said that homework was not a stressor (Parker). That means that about 4273 students considered homeword a stressor, while less than 50 out of 4317 students believed homework to not be a stressor. Out of the students surveyed, the average amount of homework was three hours and six minutes of homework (Greicius). The large amount of homework causes large amounts of stress, but it also causes sleep deprivation and other health problems such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation,
In addition, students rarely stress over small homework assignments but 80% of them become anxious, depressed, or restless during exam weeks especially if much of their grade depends on one single exam or project (Getty). Thus, homework indeed helps students grade and overall performance.
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is
In an article by Marzano and Pickering it states that homework may no be an effective in educational tool. Homework is just busy work most of the time. Therefore, the extra homework doesn't help with student achievement. Inappropriate homework may produce little or no benefit, it might even decrease achievement, according to Marzano and Pickering. Homework can cause stress and when they're stressed all the homework they have doesn’t help. Let's imagine that you have homework for every class due the next day and sports as soon as you get home from school; it's a lot of stress. Marzano and Pickering say , teachers aren't well trained in how to assign homework. Moat teachers hand out mainly busy work, and aren't trained well enough to zhand out propor
It is evident in almost every high school, students don’t seem to appreciate the piles of homework their teachers’ assign. Students don’t seem to have the time nor the willpower to do homework sometimes, due to their busy schedules or motivation for school. Majority of students, I’ve spoken to have said homework not only wastes time but also takes away from the excitement of learning. Clearly, in most schools, homework isn’t the most popular choice for students. Sometimes teachers assign a couple of pages of homework but then tag along a project and a presentation into the mix, leaving us young adults procrastinating to perfect everything before the due date, usually being the next day. Homework is an unnecessary chore which stresses teenagers out by taking time out of their day, which could be used for more effective manners for preparing for tests and developing their minds.
All this extra work is usually chalked up to be something that will help a student learn the topic, but if teachers are doing their jobs to get the important points across and time is being used well in class, than it should not be necessary. In an absence of homework students can instead spend the time usually wasted on often rushed, under quality work, studying the way that best suits them, or participating in an activity that will ease their stress from the long tiring days of school.
After spending most of their time in school, students are expected to complete even more work, seems almost ridiculous. Homework is taking time away from students other activities. In the book, “The Case Against Homework,” by Sara Bennett and Nancy Kalish, they state how homework, “robs children of their sleep, play and exercise time need for proper physical, emotional, and neurological development.” Homework is no different than a towel placed in water. It soaks up the time from other activities A study done by the Brown Center found an
School is stressful and tough with all the homework and tests, In Fact all of the students I interviewed say that there is too much homework and that they can't always get it all done. Many students say that they stay up late rushing on the homework, which in the long run will affect their grades which will affect their college that they get into, which in the end will affect their future job. “I feel rushed and sometimes in a hurry to get my homework done before practice” said one student. Some students around the world spend 13+ hours a week on homework alone which is too much. One primary school in new York has gotten rid of homework and outside of school projects all together, telling the kids that they should get outside and exercise.
People expect so much out of teenagers, especially the students who are involved in sports and maintain a job throughout the school year. They are expected to attend classes and their extracurricular activities; they have to make it to work on time, finish their homework, do their studies, and on top of that, get enough sleep at night. This is the kind of busy schedule students uphold in their week and it’s overwhelming for them. It causes stress and exhaustion, and people still expect them to do well and keep up with everything. Is this how we want students to feel all the time? Sure we want them to accomplish goals and be the best they can be, but one way to relieve some stress is less homework. When they come home from work or sports
Although homework may be beneficial to some students, I think it doesn’t help with our education and needs to stop. To begin, is homework necessary? Australia did a study on homework inflicting kids’ learning. It wasn’t helpful for students in grades below 11th and 12th, yet it was beneficial towards upperclassmen in high school. A british study showed homework being beneficial to all students. Homework every night for 2-3 hours helped in english, math and science. Secondly, other than Britain, there is no evidence to demonstrate that homework is beneficial to students below the high school age. More homework isn’t correlated with children in elementary school. The only thing that shows up less positive attitude
There is a lot of pressure put on our students today. So many of them participate in some sort of extracurricular activity, or maybe even multiple activities. They could be in sports or a school club. Depending on their age, they might have a job, or if they are younger, they could be working for their family in a family business. You have children that live with separated parents and guardians so their time is split between family members. Some of the students in the system are even in foster care. We have disadvantaged students in our schools that do not have the greatest home life and have other things going on in their lives. On top of all of this, they are expected to succeed in the classroom as well. They are expected to get good grades and to excel at standardized tests and so they are assigned homework. According to the PISA homework article we read, "students spend more of their time doing homework or other study set by their teachers than they spend in other after-school learning activities". On average in 2012, students fifteen years of age were claiming that they were spending about five hours each week working on homework. That was five years ago. I am sure the number has increased since then. This homework article states that in most
Students, parents, teachers, administrators and other interested parties all seem to have strong and different feelings towards homework. Students complain that they have too much homework to complete outside of the hours they already attended classes. Students feel that they have personal lives to live and blow off homework while some parents and teachers believe that homework is the key to passing classes and preparation for college. This leads to teachers feeling pressured to push their students to succeed and this can easily get carried away. Parents and school systems still often discuss the topic of homework today. Should homework in school systems be stopped?
