It's never to soon to start looking into colleges. I am only a freshman in highschool, and I already have my four main colleges I want to apply for in order. You have to be prepared for anything so you have your top choices and the next best. College is the time for you to finally leave home and grow up. You’ll need the perfect one for your job and the way you want to live you life. My top choice is Columbia University. It's my top choice because it's one of the most prestigious university. They have an astounding writing program. The writing program offers workshops that accomplished writers would be there to help students with their needs. It works with different literary: fiction, poetry, or creative non- fiction. The tuition …show more content…
The liberal arts program, which if I get into, I will be joining the entertainment journalism for a great deal. The tuition is $46,170. Your SAT score; writing should be 620-720, reading 610-710, and math 630-740. So you’ll have to work on your test taking skills in order to get in. University of California, Irvine is my third choice because it is the cheapest for an undergraduate; however, it stills has amazing things for me to partake in. The tuition is $14,749 if you live in state and $36,057 if you live out of state. The SAT score you have to have: reading 480-600, writing 50-620, math 550-690 to get in. They have department for film and media studies gives students heavy liberal arts background by combining theory with practice. If you want film then I suggest you go for it. Brown University is a private ivy league with a lot of bases on school and grading averages. You have to have a SAT score: reading 660-770, writing 670-780, and math 670-780. If you get accepted be ready to fork over $50,224. Their writing program excels from any scales in my college picks. Brown wasn’t my first choice because well I don’t feel very smart. Their main focus is on the sciences ,but my focus is on the writing
The admission requirements for University of Southern California are rigorous, fastidious, and highly competitive. The admission process takes into a consideration of factors. In addition, only 18.02% of student applications are accepted out of 51920 each school year. Surprisingly USC doesn’t have a preferred GPA range for their applicants but, their average GPA is 3.8 (Naviance). Many students who applied to USC were in the top 10% or at least top 20% of their high school class. Thus, concerning SAT scores, the lowest combined score was a 1910 with the highest being a 2225, and lowest combined score for the ACT was a 29 with the highest being 33 (Naviance). Among other things, an essay is required to be admitted, something that can be taken very serious because it can make or break if you are accepted or not (USC). Along with doing essays, you also need letter of recommendations, its best to get them from
My final undergraduate investigation was with Clarion University. I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t passing over a respected college that isn’t too far from home. The average room and boards for this college is $10,576 and the extra supplies and fees costs $4,018. The total tuition for a year is $6,820. When looking at your application they consider your strength within your high school curriculum, your grade point average, high school class rank, SAT and ACT scores, and recommendations. They require a course load of four mathematics, three lab sciences, four english, four social studies, and two foreign languages. To be enrolled with the honors program you have to require a minimum of a 3.64 GPA or a SAT score of 1150. Overall their average SAT score is 1390. This college is close to home, which I’m not entirely sure I want to be far away from ("Admissions Requirements.").
Society today places so much emphasis on attending a liberal arts college in order to get a degree and succeed in life. The only problem is that liberal arts colleges do not gurantee a job after graduation. Students are going into school expecting to graduate and be able to find a job, but then they find out it is not that easy. The value on liberal arts education is too high compared to the benefits. Results of interviews showed that after getting a job, the employee then had to learn on the job how to use the proper writing style required. Future research should look towards toning down the specialization of writing programs in higher education in order to cover a broader background and better prepare students.
Harriet Tubman once said, “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” (brainyquote.com). This quote is always inspiring to me, since I can see my own life experience through it. Studying in the United States has been my dream since I was young. During the first semester of my freshman year, UCWR110, the university writing class, makes me feel the essence of the quote. Thanks to UCWR110, I have improved my reading strength, my patience in reading in English as a second language, as well as my passion in writing in English. I realize that writing plays an important role in my everyday study and it is a key to my dream.
A test of success is when the odds are stacked against you. Inner-city high schools face this problem on a daily basis. When it comes to the formation of writing centers, high schools, especially ones located in America’s largest metropolitan areas, face a plethora of problems. However, by using unique tools and relationships—collaboration between high schools and local universities, choosing the proper tutors, and a unique writing center setting—inner-city high schools across the nation have been able to develop successful writing centers.
There are a lot of colleges and academies in the United States, but just a few have good rankings. These schools with good rankings have to have good teachers, good, students, and a good variety of courses. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and The University of California (L.A.) are 2 good colleges to study dramatic arts, and film in the United States. Both schools have similarities and differences. Here I am going to be comparing both colleges, and later I will choose which is the best.
The University of Pitt Johnstown has always been on my list. The average room and board of this university is $8,806 and the total tuition is $13,130. An average score on the SAT would be around an 1100 and the average ACT score is averaging around 24 for this institution. When applying, they consider your SAT and ACT scores, your grades from your freshman to senior year, and all of your extracurricular activities. They require a minimum of four years of English, one year of Chemistry, two lab sciences, three academic math courses, two foreign languages, and three social studies. This school caught my interest for the reason that it is an off branch of the University of Pittsburgh, which is known for its accomplishments in pre- medical studies
It is the same as Bentley University they need SAT scores, GPA and acceptance rate. SAT score 2026, GPA average is 3.95 and the acceptance rate is 34%
Boston University is a large, private college in Boston, Massachusetts. It has many major options, which would suit me well because I still don’t know what I am going to major in. They offer many sports and extracurricular activities. This school would be good for me because of it’s location, academic programs, and financial support.
School of Art Institute of Chicago would be the best school for me because it has all my interest there. I would like to go to school in a different state because be different than just staying in Texas. It would be a fresh start in a new place, and that’s the spot I want to start my career. SAIC would be the step in my life to be a good photographer and to succeed in my
The four colleges that i researched are Sonoma State University, UC Davis, Claremont Mckenna College, and University of Laverne. Each of these Colleges offer a major that i wish to study, this major is international relations or political science and government.
Adelphi University has been on my radar since my junior year of High School when I attended the Alice Hoffman Young Writers Retreat. That summer I found a community committed to finding new ways to communicate ideas that entertained, but could still touch your heart. While bonding we created a space where ideas and critiques were shared freely, and encouragement was given with an open heart. Adelphi’s faculty and staff were extremely encouraging and dedicated to hands on learning with words that I wish to do my MFA in Creative writing with this university.
Stanford is my first choice school because Stanford is known for its outstanding Psychology programs. On the Stanford University website, it states “Stanford provides Insights and methods from cognitive psychology are widely applied in law, medicine, engineering and design, business, politics, and education.” (https://psychology.stanford.edu/) An according to Gourmen’s
In the aftermath of the 2008 economic recession, cash-strapped universities have tried to balance their books by slashing programs perceived as “non-essential”. As a result, university programs and departments have been forced to justify their existence in order to protect themselves against further cuts. In the midst of this fight for funding, humanities programs, including the writing department, tend to bear the brunt of cuts. The value of writing programs has never been so disputed in the entire history of American education. In light of this new trend, the question of what exactly the writing program is has never been more pertinent. More specifically, we can ask what writing tutoring programs have to offer at increasingly
Getting into the University of California in Irvine took some doing. I fled Wesleyan with a D grade point average. I withdrew from one class and received an F in two other classes, but received an A in my speech class. I gave my speech final on “Why I was leaving Wesleyan.” Even though I went fifteen minutes over the speech limit, (and we were warned to never do that in her class,) the teacher gave me the top grade for my inexorable passion.
