Why I Chose Medical Billing

The career I am pursuing is dental hygiene. Dental hygienists clean patient’s teeth, examine the mouth for diseases like gingivitis. My mom works for a pediatric dentist and I spend a lot of time at her work. That’s what made me choose this career. I love the atmosphere and how friendly everyone is.

I have aspired to be in the medical field for as long as I can remember. At the beginning of every school year the teachers would inquire each student to share what role we wanted to pursue when we grow up, my answer was always the same: a nurse. I am very goal oriented, and I am aware to accomplish anything you must work for it and put in one hundred percent. Mistakes can be critical, but they remain a huge part of the learning experience and advancing. How one handles those mistakes are ultimately what makes or breaks you.

Based off this information I had decided that nursing was not for me. Long hours and demanding, uncooperative patients was not appealing to me. As for other medical fields, nothing stuck with me, my senior year in high school I considered pathology, but the more I researched the more I became uninterested. Back to the drawing board it was, until that first ultrasound I went to with my friend. As I researched I became more interested and learned that sonography is more than just OB/GYN, there is so much more to learn and explore.

Registered Nurses have a lot of responsibilities and other jobs, the career I chose is a NICU Nurse. They work in the rooms with babies to monitor any complications, but mostly premature babies. I chose this career because I love babies and I would love to be the reason why a baby got better. This career will be a great fit for my life goals because I’ve always wanted to be a nurse and I love working with babies so why not put both the things I love into one.

The career I have chosen is Dental Hygiene. I am very interested in this career because I have the opportunity to teach people and educate them about the health of their mouth. Some of the things that dental hygienists do include taking x-rays, cleaning patients teeth, educating patients on the benefits of good oral hygiene, and treating periodontal diseases of the mouth. The importance of a healthy mouth truly affects the entire body. Plus everyone would enjoy a pretty smile and a good set of straight teeth.

Many years ago I chose my studies to begin a career in the medical field. My original goal was to become a Pediatrician. However, at the end of my bachelor’s degree and after many hours spent volunteering at Miami Children’s Hospital, I decided that I wanted a career that would give me more patient provider interaction. I spoke with several doctors, nurses, and other health care providers and decided the best career for me was a Nurse Practitioner. I still have not decided on a specialty but I feel that path will come naturally with

I would like to go into the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner career field. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners help Pediatricians and other Physicians diagnose and take care of children from infancy to young adults. I have grown up with ten siblings and many more cousins, so I have learned how to deal with children of all ages. Also, I have been interested in the medical field since I was a little girl and I have always loved to help people. I would have liked to be a Pediatrician but I would prefere not be in school for another thirteen years, so I found that the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner was the perfect career for me.

I have always wanted to be a nurse: I do not think there is any task that is as satisfying as treating a patient physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. I first pursued my LPN, and immediately I knew I had chosen the right career path. Every day, no matter how tired and weary I felt at the end of the day, I was invigorated by the sense that I had made a positive change in the lives of my patients. To build upon my capabilities to help others, I then pursued my RN. I am currently in an RN-BSN program and hope to begin a graduate program subsequently to become a family nurse practitioner.

The career path I have chosen to take is in the medical field. My dream from a young age was always to be a nurse. A nurse is a healthcare professional who is focused on caring for people, and making sure that they manage, maintain, and recover patients to the finest state of health (What is Nursing, par.1). Nursing makes up a vast majority of the healthcare industry. There is a huge range of nursing specialties. Nurses work in General and surgical Hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing care facilities, outpatient facilities, and home health services (Why Be a Nurse, par. 2). Nursing is an extremely flexible career, with one hundred and four specialties and a lot of advanced nursing degrees, so there is something for everyone in this field (Why Be a Nurse, par. 4). The career I am curious about is in the medical field, generally speaking, nursing. I have chosen to become a registered nurse because of its background, and how its characteristics require the use of creativity, problem-solving, social skills, and critical thinking. Registered nurses use various skills to diagnose and apply certain care methods to specific patients. I know that nurses aid patients with various illnesses, diseases, disabilities, and injuries. I love helping people and the feeling I receive when helping people. It would also be very motivating to learn and discover things about the human body and how to fix any problems involving it.

From those goals, I chose to be a pediatric nurse. It is hard to make a decision on which way should I major in but it is important to follow our heart when we have to make a decision on anything we do. I chose pediatric nurse because I know that pediatric nurse is what I wanted to be, what I love to do, and what makes me happy. I know how much important it is and how much beneficial for everyone. Healthcare is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. With the new presidential administration and different changes in policies, people are putting more focus on hospitals and health insurance companies to make sure they give people the proper care that they need. I want to major in Health Administration because in a world with growing uncertainty and fear of the future, I want to make sure that people aren’t afraid and can afford to get medical care when they are sick or injured. The Bloustein School is the perfect place to help me achieve my goals and start my career in the professional world.

I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.

Twenty-four years ago, my dad boarded a one-way flight to the U.S. He was coming to a new country filled with vocational opportunities his homeland could not provide. He was not limited by his place of birth or the reality that no one else in his family had ever left their village. He trusted his gut and took a leap of faith. A year later he called for my mother and I to join him in the U.S. and we left our life in Kenya and my future was ultimately changed. Throughout my life, I have been keenly aware that had my father limited himself to only opportunities that he could see, I would have never even been able to consider opportunities such as the UNC Medical Center Administrative Fellowship.
