Why I Chose This College

Six years after graduating High School, I have finally decided to pursue a college education. Three, fairly common, factors played in to my decision to go back to school: learning new things, building confidence in myself and pursuing my desired career. I understand that graduating college is a difficult task, which is why I must make a plan for my success and stick to it. I must also rely on my personal strengths and my motivation to guide me through the tough times that I am sure to experience on my road to success to get my degree in Criminal Justice. I have always been a person who is eager to learn new things.

Choosing to attend college was a difficult choice, my mother is the only person in all of my family to ever attend and graduate college. My father and the rest of my family have all gone into trade work, some of them attending a trade school and some not. While all of my family does well and live a comfortable lifestyle. I have noticed through the years that my mother has always been employed even when others in my family have not and she always seems to have an easier time finding work. This is the main reasons I decided to attend college, with higher education often times comes more job security and stability. Why did I decide to attend college? I chose this path for my life when I was very young, both of my parents attended some form of higher education. They both ended up living fairly well, I decided that I wanted to be successful in life as well and that going to college would be an integral part of my future. I want to be able to live in comfort; be able to be a productive member of my community still, become an adult, and be able to understand things in a new light.

In my college searching I was looking for one in Georgia. I don't want to be too far from home but not too close. One reason I don't want to be too far away is because I don't want to be too far from my family. I want to be able to go back really quick if something happens. Then again I don't want to be so close because I want to learn how to live on my own. I don't want to get stuck in my hometown forever. It has to have a education program and has to be a 4- year school. I didn't want to start at one school and have to finish somewhere else. That would be too much money and moving for me. Living in America I am given many opportunities to pursue my education such as being surrounded by fantastic colleges and being the first person in my family to graduate high school and attend college.I am determined to have a great profession and make my parents proud. An important short-term goal is attending Mercer University for both undergraduate and graduate school with the most financial aid as possible My parents emigrated from India and came here with nothing. They have suffered through many hardships financially and personally to provide for my sister and I. Due to my dad’s health issues he is forced to retire and stay home. Our expenses solely rely on my mother’s income and the income I receive from my part time job. Since my family’s funds are limited, applying for financial aid is critical in order for me to attend college.

Since I’m the first person in my family to attend a university, it always appeared important to my family that I receive an exceptional education. The reason why I decided to go to college is because I believe it would help me obtain connections. I chose the W.P Carey School of Business because it is one of the best business schools in the nation and I believe that it would help further improve my education. My major is Global Politics; I choose it because a global politics degree promotes solid business skills and global understanding. A global politics degree will help me become more responsible and improve my leadership skills.

Recently, after I decided to join the military I decided it was time to begin attending school again. Many reasons influenced my decision. The biggest reason I could come up with is the fact that while utilizing tuition assistance I do not entail any financial obligations as long as I receive a passing grade in all my courses. Being in the military has also made me realize the importance of achieving a higher level of education. In order to be set apart among your peers you need to prove you are attempting to better yourself at every turn. Education is a great way to prove that. I want to use college as a way to become a better citizen by expanding my perspectives and opinions and providing me with new experiences and opportunities to engage with different people. I believe that Getting a college education will also give me the opportunity to build a better future for me and my family. By studying I hope to learn how I can improve the health of people in the diverse communities surrounding me and work to end the violence found within them.

As my senior year began I was currently enrolling into different colleges, Canisius College being one of them. Alot of questions were asked while enrolling such as, why would I be a good fit to the college, what are my interest, and of course what would be my preference in major. I was undecided and overwhelmed. I constantly changed my choice and told individuals different majors I could be interested in. Each day I enrolled into a new school, my major would be different, one day I would be into law, the next day forensics, the next week psychology, and then dentistry. Two different motivations that pushed me towards my major in adolescent education was my National Honor Society advisor and my favorite movie “Freedom Writers.”

I chose to attend Moorpark because the tuition is more affordable for the first two years rather than a 4-year college. I also like the variety of classes the college offers and its clean campus. I decided to take this particular class because I heard a lot of good comments about this course. This is my first year at Moorpark and I have not taken other college classes. It is important for me to attend college because I believe that education is one of the most valuable privileges one can have, and I have a desire to learn and to fulfill my potential. I graduated college in 2012 and have since adopted the city of Rochester as my home. My partner and I committed ourselves to this community last year when we bought a home downtown. I am intent on picking a career that is worth dedicating my life to and that will benefit others in my new community. The discipline in which I earned my Bachelor’s degree leads to a shallow career path that wouldn't benefit others in any fundamental way. When I graduate from St. Joseph high school I would like to go to college and attend Michigan State University to play football. After college, I would hope to go the NFL and play for a team even though my family wants me to go to the New Orleans Saints. When we came here, she didn’t feel comfortable leaving me at such a young age to go off and work, so she didn’t start working full-time until I was in the third grade. Before that, she did try to rake in some money by taking on jobs like a cashier, caregiver, and babysitter. My dad on the other hand, never got passed an elementary school education. I have many reasons for going to college, I’m going to college because I want to make my family proud and I want to be a leader for my younger siblings and cousins.
