As a kid you either loved or hated schooling; however, you may want to consider going back to school and earning a college degree. I was one of those kids that never really liked school, but I didn’t hate it either. I had a couple of subjects that I really enjoyed, like math and science. My choice to go back to college and finish my degree, was a necessity to advance my career. Your success in your career is directly correlated to your education level, and higher paying jobs require some sort of higher level education. I am going to share my personal story on why I chose to go back to college.
In the United States Navy, your success is not completely dependent on your education. An enlisted sailor can excel in the Navy without a college degree; however, if you have a degree, added benefits are awarded. If you earn a college degree as an enlisted sailor, you can apply for officer programs which will increase your base pay and put you on a different career path. Another advantage to earning a college degree, is that it will add educational award points to your advancement exam score, which will help you advance faster. In either case, a college education can help advance your career and earn you more money, but by no means is it a requirement to excel in your current rating. People that go to college for in demand career fields obtain higher paying jobs, and qualify for more jobs because of the degree that they earned. A simple job search, on any major job site, will show that the majority of the jobs available require at least a Bachelor’s degree. I decided to go back to college to earn a degree while I served, so I can make my transition to the civilian world easier. This will hopefully help me be more successful when I finally transition back into the civilian
