Why I Chose this Topic
Sparkly tops, cozy pants; we never know where they come from. Maybe a kid made them under horrible conditions, you never know. My mom used to buy a lot of Gap clothes, but during 2005 she stopped. I was little so I didn’t understand, but my oldest sister did. Some rumors were going around that Gap made kids work. They forced them to produce clothing , only gaining one cent per month, they were paid less than adults. Kids were sewing and packaging the clothes. When my sister became an adolescent she started getting picky about clothing. She always wanted to dress like everyone, and the brand trendy new handbag of year was part of it. Living in Paris during a part of her teen years made her very picky and critical

For the book I took notes, in the end I would remove all the invaluable things from my paper. You can always find more on the internet than anywhere else. I should have probably chosen a book with more writing and a lower reading level. My choice for the interview source was my mom’s friend, Sonja. She worked for 10 years at Missoni, a Luxury Italian brand. She was the head of the design department, her job was pretty important. She visited many places to inspire the next collections. Some people were in charge of designing for big fashion shows. Her job was to draw for clients in the Missoni boutiques. It did help because you could see all the prospective of the jobs in the industry. She told me, “Designer is one of the most important job in the industry. Clients rely on us, we have to draw clothes that will fit the taste and expectations of our buyers.” When you work in the designing department for fashion shows it’s different. To conserve the brand’s image the fashion shows have to be over the top. The meaning by “to conserve a brand’s image” is to keep their reputation clean. Shops and clothes are what make most of the money. Overall my source said to me that everyone has an important job in the industry.
Fashion is a very large topic, it started more than 10,000 years ago. Egyptians were into fashion and jewelry too. French queens and kings were known for wearing very expensive and extravagant outfits. During World War II other countries
Whether a person was from the Renaissance or modern day fashion, your influences, society ranking, and sometimes your age, all demonstrates that through the centuries fashion was and is a big part of history.
A lot of countries made their clothing for different reasons. For instance, Scotland made a fabric called tartans that showed what clan they are in, and Hawaiians production of clothing was part of religious significance. In the Middle Ages ties and belts were used more frequently because their clothes was oversized by modern standards. “With the Renaissance’s changes in art and society came more fitted clothes” (Source 2). They made their clothes more fitted by sewing multiple pieces of cloth instead of using just one big piece of cloth. Without closures like zippers it made it very difficult to get into their clothes. The wealthier people had their tailor customize their own patterns. “... height of 18th century, French fashion garments were truly works of art” (Source 2). The french started to ship in foreign pieces of clothes shipped from miles away and used silk-like materials. “... flashy fabrics fell out of use.. fit became increasingly more important in the 19th and 20th centuries” (Source 2). The flashy material went out of style and nobody really wanted to use it anymore. Instead of tunics and robes, men started to wear suits. Men and women were looking for a more fitted look
The book, From Goodwill to Grunge: A Story of Second Hand Styles and Alternative Economics, is in complete adherence with my view of the world, especially as teenager in the 21st century. I believe that fashion, and what people wear is, unfortunately, such a big part of life in 2018. Many teens and young adults are expected to dress a certain way, and shop at certain stores, and if they don’t , they risk being bullied, especially in middle and high schools, which can be extremely deleterious to a teens mental health as well as self esteem. In today’s day and time, thrifting is as popular as ever, with many teens adopting the thrifting lifestyle exclusively for the aesthetic. In the chapter “The Invention of Vintage Clothing” , Le Zotte states,“Vintage
In the 1900s, Europe was the country that dominated the fashion industry, with many famous fashion designers and designs. In 1914, World War I sparked within Europe and eventually turned into a global war. The War lasted for four years, ending in 1918. Like any other war, World War I impacted Europe drastically, and of course, it affected the fashion industry. This research paper will focus on how the period of World War I impacted women’s fashion in Europe from 1914 to the 1920s.
“One of the dominant influences on...American popular culture...was the fascination with anything...oriental...this paper uses the word ‘oriental’...as a generic description of a geographic region including North Africa...as a synonym for exotic” (Hanson 3). Fashion made a bold statement in the different themes and ideas that were put into clothes, quilts, etc. Many designs were in the view of women in all different places in the world, contributed to, and displayed by the US worldwide. “Fashion arbiters also employed rhetoric about the superiority of the…of French and especially Parisian women” (Stewart 103). All contributions weren't made in places other than the United States, but they were major attributes.
My name is Markeshia Rhone and, I was one of your students last semester. The reason why I am contacting you is to conduct an informational interview. I'm seeking information from professionals in the fashion and costume designing industry. I wanted to know if you could be part of it. It should only take about 15, minutes of your of time. I'm not seeking employment, or anything. I just would like to know what it is like to work in the industry?
The constant churn of new trends means that consumers have grown dissatisfied with what they already have. Cline herself looked at her clothing collection and found she had 354 garments in her closet. “61 tops, 60 T-shirts, 15 cardigans and hooded sweatshirts, 21 skirts and 20 pairs of shoes, most of which I never wear.” Reading this made me examine my own wardrobe. I thought surely I don't own that much. Shockingly, I have 12 jackets, 23 bottoms, 71 shirts 19 dresses and 13 pairs of shoes. That’s a lot of clothing, yet I still find myself complaining that I have nothing to wear nearly every time I go out. This is an effect of the fashion industry teaching us that we need more clothing than we actually do. One of H&M’s major selling ploys is advertising that they have new stock every day. So naturally people go into the store to check it out. Then we notice the low price. With a deal like that we can't say no and we buy it. Just like that all of us have fed billions of dollars annually to stores that encourage waste. Mass produced clothing is generally poor quality due to manufacturers cutting corners to lower cost and raise profit. As a culture we need to relearn valuing quality over quantity if we want to see a change in the garment
As the years passed by, different styles and trends kept changing. It is interesting to see the evolution of fashion from the Georgian and Victorian eras to what is trending now, and describing their differences and similarities. John Galliano and Lagerfeld were inspired by Marie Antoinette’s fashion, many covers from popular magazines such as Vogue were representing Marie’s style and other women that caused a major impact during both eras. Clothing was intricate during many eras in England. The Georgian era was interesting and it was focused on events like social dances, theatre, and other important events.
Clothing from French designers like Balenciaga and Dior were worn by women in high society. Important figures like Jacquie Kennedy began to support less formal clothes, for example, things like shorter skirts. Fewer people now wore frill like caps and gloves.
Clothing not only keeps us warm, hides our imperfections or accentuates our best features, but also expresses our personality. However, fashion is more like a cult than self-expression. Every month or every weekend, sometimes in our pajamas, we start a new crusade for extra clothes, even if 20% of it never leaves our closets. We buy a staggering amount of cheap and low-quality clothing, which sometimes falls apart after one wear or one wash, and easily gets tossed into the garbage.
As technology continues to progress fashion evolves right alongside. Before the invention of the tv the way to spread different styles and outfits was through sketches and designs. By this means it would take extended amounts of time to spread ideas of fashion from one place to another. The influence of technology on the fashion industry cannot be overlooked. Fashion is being rapidly offered to consumers at an amazingly fast rate. Nowadays anybody can have anything they want within the reach of a button on a phone or computer screen, fashion is instantaneous. It used to be following style patterns included venturing to the far corners of the planet in a group of 10 to create a

The Years between the 1950’s and 1960’s was an explosive time in fashion. The 50’s represented an out coming of the new generation. People began to gain their own personal style and appearance, influenced by films and singers (“Vintage Fashion”). Their styles incorporated leather, jeans, corduroy, and the ballet shoes for the girls. Men’s wear began to drastically change. Men would wear a leather jacket, with jeans that narrowed at the bottom, and a simple t-shirt (Peacock 210-211). This was the first time in history that jeans were not just worn by the working class but by all men (“Brief History”). The man’s lust for flesh grew during this time, so women’s skirts began to get shorter and the bikini was invented. Clothes were made to glorify the female body and emphasize every curve. It wasn’t until the Barbie doll was created in the late 50’s that young girls began to have a separate fashion from their mothers. Young girls would wear sweaters with full skirts or pants
A lot has changed and evolved in the history of fashion since the 1900s. As the century dawned, fashion was an exclusive enterprise, the pursuit of wealth. The average person in society settled for garments that were usually stitched at home. With time, however, networks of neighborhood tailors began to evolve into a retail history and the boom was followed by boutique selling.
