As a parent I personally hate advertisements. Every time a commercial comes on for the new hip toy my kids think they have to have it, but I understand that they do that so that they can market their product. Mission Accomplished! Every time I get on Facebook, every time I lose at one of the games on my phone , even when I log into my childs school website there they are. The marketing companies have gotten so good they use your recent page visits to advertise to you through your social media accounts. Crazy! I do however, think that some advertisements like, abc mouse and things to that sort definitely could be great resources for children, therefore I support them. If I saw an advertisement for McDonalds or dunkin doughnuts then I don’t agree.
Advertisements also affect a child's own identity because "advertising manipulates [children] through their insecurities, working to define normality for them" (Source C). Children, especially pre-teens and teenagers, are essentially going through a multitude of crises with the most prominent one being and identity crisis. Figuring out who one is, is a vital step towards adulthood and independence, and with advertisements altering children's thoughts and ideas, their futures are not looking as bright. Without a sense of self, humans are nothing. They are simply mindless creatures just trying to survive. They have no intellectual independence and therefore, inventions, ideas, and discoveries will begin to slowly diminish. But, the manipulative ways of advertising can in facts be positive. With 15,312 promotions and public service announcements seen by children and teens annually (Source A), the world has a high chance of new generations of innovators and environmental heroes. If advertisements can, in a sense, manipulate children into doing positive things and taking actions, then yes, advertising to children is an extremely clever thing to do, and will benefit not only the viewers, but the world in
Many people believe that everything is black and white, especially when it comes to advertisements. What many don’t understand is that everything has an underlining meaning. Every advertisement has been thought out thoroughly to catch the attention of the consumers it is aiming towards. Advertisements aiming towards children has definitely been a topic that many people can’t seem to wrap their mind around. It’s been a topic that many have exposed because of the way marketers are willing to manipulate children in ways that only benefit their own. This whole issue began after the progression of marketing to children during the late 70s and early 80s with the advertisers’ intentions of making children lifelong consumers of products.
It’s deceptive. Children don’t have the cognitive wherewithal to defend against advertising (Kanieski, 2010). Very young children can’t distinguish between a program and a commercial (Tepperman, Albanese, & Curtis, 2014). Until the age of 11 or 12, kids don’t truly understand persuasive intent they don’t understand that every single part of the ad is trying to get them to do something (Moglan, 2014). Furthermore, children have less impulse control and are more vulnerable to
To keep the economy running well, advertisement is nessacary. In my personal opinion, i think that it should be limited more. There are to many unhealthy people out there and kids who wont leave the house anymore, because what they are promoting on ads does not involve being active and getting exercise. Some advertisements i believe do have good values. In paragraph 2 of the Protect Children from Targeted Advertising response they said," But kids remember the ads extremely well, and they see thousands each year." If you see thousands of ads in a year, on the same thing , wouldn't you want to try or get whatever it could be? Some ads are products, some are food , and many different things. Fast food restauraunt's are the ads i see the most personally, and i believe that if there were limited ads to certain things, and more ads on things to treat kids, adults, or anyone in a positive way, we would still have a great economy, and also have healthier kids or adults. I don't think that ads should be banned, but i do believe they should be limited, so that people can be healthier."America should be a leader in protecting children, but that is not the case."
Should advertisements towards childern and teens be banned in the United States? Yes it should, most toy companies and fast food restaurants advertise on television, where the the audience is mostly young childern and teens. Which has taken advantage of the viewers and making them over-spend their money for unimportant things that advertisers put on television. we need to teach our childern the affect advertising has on us..
Children are easily influenced, and this can be taken advantage of in the commercial industry. Thy have the desire to fit in and do what is considered “cool”. Many people believe that people use this desire to their own benefit in order to create profit. While it’s true children are easily manipulated by commercials, these commercials and be beneficial to the child's development. Commercials can be used to bring good ideas and good life skills to children that will lead them to being a successful adults. Commercials aimed at children are ethical because they can reinforce positive behaviors and good ideals. This is shown through articles, press and reports.
I feel as if we need to protect childern from targeted advertising. Childern can be persuaded very easily compared to teens and adults. Companys use simple things that catch a child's eye like superheros and toys to make them want something even more, fast food restaurants usually do that type of adertising. In the passage they explain how childern influence their parents to spend $249 billion a year. That number is just going to grow if they don't stop this kind of advertising. Advertising show harmful negative messages to kids world wide. Like smoking, and drinking commericals. They show these type of things like if only "cool guys and girls" do it so it persuades them to want to try it.
I believe advertisements targeting children should not be banned in the United States. Doing so would be unconstitutional due to the Freedom of Press amendment. Advertisements can help children by promoting healthy eating habits while at the same time teaching them that advertisements are just ploys for businesses to get more money.
Advertisement has become increasingly important to the funding of television shows, movies, and other such entertainment entities. Television is funded almost solely on commercials and no one really minds except for some grumbling about interruptions to the show, because they know that the television shows would not get the money and resources they need to be made without them. Schools need funding and resources that they are constantly lacking in, and while putting advertisements up may be irritating, the money and equipment gained through these partnerships will improve conditions at the schools and the advertisements will not get in the way of normal education, though these partnerships definitely need some restrictions before they should be allowed.
How do kids really feel about advertisement? Do we just block out the surplus of ads, or do we soak in the information? There two different views on ads in school. Either you think that they are helpful or you don't. Two letters were written to a school on two very different perspectives.
My own opinion on whether or not advertisements should be banned in the United States for targeting children. Well, there's some good and bad reasonings behind this exact situation. Should companys be able to make money? Should companys be able to sell there products online? Should kids not be able to watch T.V.?
Children remeber alot of what they see on T.V. and ad's are one of those thing especially ad's directed to them like toys, games, and clothes. This may sound bad but with the children buying these things it helps the economy grow. It teaches them hopw to be a smart consumer and if they see an ad is bad they probably won't buy that item.
In conclusion I believe that the united states should not banne ads just because they think it bothers children or helps parents waste there money Honestly at the end of the day in order for your kids or you to want something u have to let the want of it take over not the tv screen just showing you whats there for takes. You me are human beings our own person .We make our own decisons in life. So lets not blame tv advertiments for our choices when we can make our own
In my own opinion I don't really think advertisment is good for the children right now. I think they should be banned because they influence kids at a young age that certaing foods or certain styles are necessary in order to fit in with the crowd. For
There are several reasons why advertising aimed at young children should be banned. Advertisers and marketers influence young children. Children are the future leaders of our world. Television encourages them to become consumers and equate ownership of things with self-worth. Thus, at an early age, children are influenced to associate status and self-worth with materialistic things. We are producing young consumers rather that productive citizens who will add value to society. While the government states its purpose for protecting children, in general terms, children are simply influenced and cannot tell advertising agenda from the truth.
