Everything we do impacts us one way or another and it has greatly helped us grow as individuals. Things that shape us don't occur during one time frame nor do they seem significant until you put further thought into it. A few moments that have enhanced my personal growth are my student leadership roles, community involvement, and musical achievements. My student leadership roles have allowed me to be more comfortable in my skills along with time management. Similarly, my community involvement has made me more comfortable in a work-based environment and my musical achievements taught me to never give up when it involves something that I am greatly passionate about. Firstly, a recent personal achievement that I am very honoured about is being a Macdonald Representative. A Mac Rep is someone who represents the entire school when visitors come in, and who helps out during school events. The criteria for becoming a Mac Rep is having a good academic average, being a model student, be willing to give their time and have some sort of previous community involvement. I …show more content…
In order to pass this examination, I had to be able to perform sight reading, playbacks and do really well on my scales, triads and chords for my C major, G major, F major and A minor scales (both broken and solid). Despite many of my relatives telling me that taking piano lessons was just a waste of time, I proved them all wrong by practicing very hard and thus receiving and honours with distinction (94%) on my skills examination. Although this was just my grade 01 examination, it was important to my personal growth as it taught me to persevere and do the things that I want to do, no matter what anyone else thinks. In fact, because of this qualification, I consider myself a more determined person who follows through on their
Though, many people and circumstances influenced my life, there are three I can easily identify. First, my baseball coach from High School. Early in the season he gave us a piece of paper about fixed and growth mindsets. As I read through it, I found it very interesting. Someone who has a fixed mindset is someone who avoids challenges, easily gives up, and is threatened by the success of other people. A growth mindset is when someone embraces challenges, essential, and uses things as a wake up call to work harder next time. I walked up to Coach Wides after practice and thanked him for handing that paper out because I really was struggling through my senior year of High School. Later in the season after we lost a game, he was talking to us about
One major experience that has shaped me as a person would be the decision to join FFA my freshman year. FFA has allowed me many incredible opportunities and experiences these past four years.
A specific detail that effects my present day life is my parents divorce. The separation from my parents taught me how to do many tasks on my own. I learned how to take the bus as well as different forms of public transportation on my own. I became more mobile and able to see my other family members more often which caused us to become closer. Now at holidays, the celebrations are doubled up.
learning to be more responsible and independent giving me a sense of self pride. Furthermore, I
I wish to be selected as a MAC REP for number of reasons. Firstly, next year will be my last year at Sir John. A Macdonald, hence as a proud black scot, I’m very willing to contribute my time and effort to the school. Although I’ve been participating in many school events, I feel I can provide more support by to the school being a MAC REP, and helping out with events that need students who are organized and responsible. Moreover, I want to encourage more students to become a truly black scot with high school sprits, which can be accomplished through helping out with events like “moving on up”, “parent teacher interview”, or “parent teacher night”. I firmly believe that by presenting a friendly and appropriate student image to parents and other
An experience that has made a profound impact on my life was when I directed and completed a community service project to fulfill a requirement for the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts of America. In order to competently act as coordinator for this service project, I had to develop both my interpersonal communication and leadership capabilities to a proficient level. Besides improving my professional skills, this project gave me the opportunity gain hands on experience working with groups of people who had varying skill levels. So, not only did these skills allow me to complete the project successfully, they have also proven incredibly useful throughout my academic career.
General Motors, at one point the largest car manufacturer in the world, needed a bailout in 2009 to stay in business. One of the main reason the auto giant filed for bankruptcy was seen on the balance sheet where assets were $82.2 billion and a vast amount of liabilities that equated to a whopping $172 billion. With this massive amount of debt hanging over the company, General Motors according to the Economist, “the chief financial officer sought to raise $3 billion through a sale of bonds or shares,”(Economist Editor). After Lehman Brothers had fallen GM knew that they would not be able to get the funds, so they tried to sell non-core assets,(Economist Editor). At this point, the stock price for General Motors fell to $3, (Economist Editor).
One significant action of mine that has had an incredible effect on me has been being involved with Aggie traditions. At first I was not really interested the traditions here at Texas A&M because I was clueless about them and I had no idea what they signified. During my first semester I was invited to attend midnight yell several times but I always declined because it seemed like something I wouldn't enjoy at all. However, one day one of my friends surprisingly convinced me and told me to give it a chance. Since I had nothing else planned that night I agreed to go and see what it was all about. This experience is one I truly will never forget. That night I was so proud to be called an Aggie and stand with thousands of other students. This
One thing that impacted my life was coming to job corp. Job corps really has changed my life around in many ways and the way I think about everyday life. In life I have been to juvenile 2 times and to jail three times. One thing about me when I dropped out of high school I started being in the streets and not caring about life I didn’t realize all thing bad things I was doing. For a moment my own mom said she didn’t know who I was anyone because how I was living.
I think what has influenced me the most has been my decision to play football. I joined the team at a time that most would not. Our high school football team had not been doing well and had also undergone multiple coaching changes in a short period of time. I made the decision to join the team to do what I could to improve our program.
The next positive defining moment in my education was making the cheerleading team my freshman year. I have been cheerleading my whole life and started when I was just in second grade. My town had a Pop Waner team and I did that every year through elementary school and middle school. My mom was the coach and we even made it to nationals in Disney world in eighth grade placing 7th in the nation. Cheerleading has always been a huge love of mine and has really shaped me into the person I am today. When high school came around I tryout out for the varsity team and made it. This was a huge accomplishment for a freshman and I was very proud of myself.
Everyone has an event in their life that helped changed them in some way or stood out to them in some type of way in their life. Rather if it is, something like a birth of a child, a death of a family member or even receiving a job. A significant event in my life and helped me grow as a person was when I decided to pack up and move to Houston, Texas. My move to Texas may have been short but in that short period it helped me to grow to be more independent and to provide for myself and much more. When I made the moved to Texas, I moved with family members that I knew but I was not close with it.
influential thing in my life today. In the last six years of my life I
Life seems to take many twists and turns that somehow mesh into each other to form a chaotic knot of happenings. All of these occurrences are supposed to shape you into a wiser more experienced person. Many people can even pin point the exact moment in their life which was forever changed by a single event. When that event happens it becomes an unforgettable memory for you and teaches you a lesson that becomes one of the basic guidelines in your life. The event that forever changed me and was most significant to me was when I decided what I planned on doing for the rest of my life; choosing my major. I knew exactly what I would plan on doing my
