I am fortunate enough to have parents that can afford to send me to college, and support my choice to pursue a higher education. By attending college, I will eventually graduate with a degree and later earn a high paying career. Along with this, I have found college to be a way to discovering who I am. I have been able to move out, take over my own bills, and earn responsibility by doing so. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to attend college. Financial reasons typically hold individuals back from attending universities, and that later may affect their lives. Although I attend class daily, the true effect college will have on me in the future goes unnoticed. An education is something that is highly valued, and so important. Everyone should have the chance to have an education, but unfortunately, it does not happen. College for me, is a privilege. Therefore, I will work hard to earn my degree, and later put it to

College comes at you quicker than you could imagine. And with being a junior in high school, college is all you think of. Sometimes the more you think about what you want to do the more stressful it can get. But you have to keep an idea of what career you'll want to pursue. East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, and the University of South Carolina offer many programs that would lead you to want to attend their university.

When I was 5 my life changed completely. My sister and I were abandoned by our mother and father. I was then raised by my aunt and uncle along with my grandparents. I was taken in and loved as if I was their own. I want to show them and myself that no matter what happens in life that I can succeed and accomplish anything I set my mind to. Therefore, I am pursuing an Associates degree and the first generation in my family to go to college first generation in my family to go to college.

Education is the main goal of college. I had always considered myself a person dedicated to the pursuit of more knowledge and a better education. My mother, being a teacher, had instilled these values in me. When I was in elementary, I tested into a gifted center and from there I tested into selective enrollment college prep. The obvious next step seemed to be college. Looking the scholarship given to me, it just didn’t seem to add up. I had scored a 32 on the ACT but my scholarship was barely covering half of my expenses. But I knew if a just gave up, the meant giving up on everything that I believe in. By pursing college I was able to be challenged, pursue subjects which interested me and discover new pathways that I was interested such as African American studies. Without taking that chance, I may have never received that knowledge.

Colleges prepare us in order to succeed in the future. As the competition to getting a decent job is increasing, it is very complicated for an individual to get hired without at least a bachelor’s degree. Another reason to apply to college is to expand your communication and social skills. It is all fun and games until you reach college. In college, most people are practically on their own for the first time so it is their time to become a responsible adult.

After four years of high school, there is only one goal I have in mind. That goal is to attend college. This is the next big step in my life. All the late nights I stayed up to complete school assignment was for this moment. All my hard work was has lead me to this point in life. College will open a whole new to me. A world where I can meet new people while working to improve my future. Why do I want to attend college though? Well I have three specific reasons for this decision.

There might be a time where people ask you, “why are you in college” or “why to decide to go to college.” People might reply by saying that they want a degree, that they want a higher paying job, or they need that for a future career that they are pursuing. Those responses are the most typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a person can get a better job with better pay rather than working in the manual labor fields with minimum pay. A college degree is the fundamental stepping stone to the future, it lays the foundation of where to start. College is everything to me; I’m in college so I’m able to unlock more potential in myself, to be able to make my mother proud with everything that she has done and hopefully becoming the first.

I decided to go to college because I believe that education is an important part of life and that being educated has many advantages. Like many, one of the biggest reasons for deciding to attend college is to create a better future for myself. Being a first-generation college student my parents have implanted on me the importance of college education, as it is something they wish they would have done themselves. As the first of four children to go to college, I feel that it is my responsibility to be a good example to my younger siblings, and show them that it is important to have goals in life and to better yourself as a person through education. I understand that an university education may not be for everyone, but it felt like the right choice for me. What I hope to get out of college is a life-changing experience, not only to get a better education, but to find something I am truly passionate about. I think it is important when choosing a career or a major to find something your heart truly wants and not just a career that will make you able to afford expensive things. I come from a low-income family with a household of eight people. I have my dad, my six siblings, and my mother passed away a few years ago. As a first-generation college student I felt so many emotions. I came from a high school that didn’t prepare me for college courses and that became a problem. What made it worse was that my dad didn’t go to college, so I couldn’t go to him for help. I was scared, depressed, unprepared, I was doing everything on my own. I also felt like I didn’t belong because I believed I wasn’t as smart as the other students or “rich” enough. When I first arrived at UC Davis, I was immediately intimidated. All of the other students seemed so educated and professional and I just compared myself to them without even getting to know them. Let me tell you, getting here wasn’t easy and I know it wasn’t easy for you either, so feel accomplished. You made it! Now that you’re in UC Davis, you will be expected to work hard. Times may get rough, but just remember that help is out there. Take advantage and don’t be afraid or ashamed to seek help.

I believe college can do this for anyone and it can open you up to numerous environments, educationally and socially. In addition, I’m choosing to go to college because I want to further my education, and to earn a degree that I believe I deserve. It’s a proven fact, that with a degree you have so many more opportunities and benefits than to those with only a high school diploma. I want to prove to everyone that looked down on me and doubted me, I can imagine that’s an amazing feeling. Lastly, I’m going to college so I can motivate my family members, friends and one day, my children. As the first generation of my family member attend college. I understand the value of higher education and how it would impact my life. College education gives me the opportunity to explore new ideas, improve critical thinking, and enhance my skills. It is the gateway to better options and a chance to succeed in life.

When the idea of college comes to mind, what does one think of? When “college’’ is said the first thought that comes to mind is four more long stressful years of school. College is not only about the sleepless nights filled with homework and studying for one of the many exams. College exposes you to new people, learning to be an adult, and receiving an education. Education sets up young adults up for a successful future, providing the skill set needed to be successful at their job or career. All the hard work of going to school is well worth it in the end when that degree is finally in hand. People should go to college because they can get better job opportunities, which will give them better financial stability in the future.

Some of the people do not have a plan to work with, but some of them do have a good plan to achievable. It’s more comfortable to have a plan to do what you think about. The main ideas for my plan are graduate, get a work and go to college.
