“ The best career advice given to the young is: Find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for doing it” was said by Katherine Whitehorn. As a child in elementary school I was expected to know what I wanted to be. But as a people pleaser I “choose” to go with the career I knew my parents would approve of and wanted from me. A lawyer. At the time I thought it was what I wanted as well because I loved to prove people wrong and to argue. This is not the case as now, I am 17 years old, about to go to college to pursue “my life long dream”. You can not please everyone especially parents. You’ll end up dropping out in the middle of college or changing your major in between. To me the hardest people to please are the two who gave you life and everything you needed to be an amazing adult in the future. It is nerve wrecking because not only will I be the first to go to college but, I am expected to come out successful and an inspiration to my two younger siblings. As the oldest of three it is hard when your younger siblings ask you “What college do you want to go to?” or even the occasional “Can I live with you when you get a house?”. I have spent 14 years of my life in school working hard to reach this year because “it is my year”. This is my third …show more content…
It can ruin everything you worked so hard on. High School but senior year especially is a lot of pressure from your parents, peers, teachers, etc. They try to get you to go into the “right direction” even though it was no where near what you wanted. I am proud of myself as I am now 8 months away from getting my diploma. All throughout my years in school I have been pressured by my parents as well teachers, all telling me what is best. I explain and explain but my choices are not good enough so I would do as they say. Not anymore. From sophomore year I learned that none of those people will pay my tuition so why should they choose my career or my college. Now I do what I think is best for my
I was indecisive of my future career path. My mom would tell me the classic “You should be a lawyer” or “You should be a doctor.” I would go along with her idea for a couple weeks until I jumped off the bandwagon. I wasn’t passionate about either of those fields; I was interested in both math and science and as a young girl. As I got older, I became invested in technology due to my love of gaming, but I didn’t know that people devote their lives to technology until I interned.
After four years of high school, there is only one goal I have in mind. That goal is to attend college. This is the next big step in my life. All the late nights I stayed up to complete school assignment was for this moment. All my hard work was has lead me to this point in life. College will open a whole new to me. A world where I can meet new people while working to improve my future. Why do I want to attend college though? Well I have three specific reasons for this decision.
I would like to enter higher education as soon as I get out of high school or else I may lose the determination to go to college all together. I’ve been fortunate enough to have my parents offer to let me live with them during college years and help me pay for college. I’d like to pursue a career in nursing at Bluefield State College after High School since they offer the classes I need and have expressed slight interest in me already. As fun as it would be to have my own private house or more realistically an apartment I believe that the financially sound choice would be continuing to live with my parents while I work on some kind of job during college. Id preferably like to work at a GameStop where my relatively empty pool of skills will
I am a Mexican American woman. I was definitely aware that coming into this college I would be a minority, but I was not really able to understand what that meant until I sat in every single one of my classes and felt that there was not one person I could relate to like I did in High School. There were girls in my bigger classes, but I can count on one hand the number of Mexican girls I have come across here at the Engineering School. Another reason I may not have been able to find friends I could relate with is I did not live on campus for financial reasons. Every single time I felt out of place or like I was not taken into account I turned it into something positive rather than negative. It is very important that Hispanic woman become more
There are many reasons why I want to be in the Teams program and many things I want to accomplish in high school. I want to try to push myself, I want to challenge myself and do things that may be out of my comfort zone and I think that teams will give me the perfect opportunity to do that. I think that it will be interesting to see how far I can go in my studies. I think it will be amazing see how many more new things I can learn in Mathematics, Science, and Computer Science. I am particularly excited to see all the new things I will learn in math. I believe that if I don't try I won't be able to succeed and that's why I want to push my self.
If there is one reason why I would like to attend the Center for Information Technology, it would be because that I love challenges. Ever since I was little, I used to take my toys and transform them into an engineering project and that's when I got my passion for technology and engineering. Another reason that really made me passionate about technology was the billions of extraordinary ideas that came to me when I explored the ideas of engineering things such as computers, robots, and 3D printing. One of my future goals in the center would be to really enhance the idea of robot building, especially in clubs such as TSA and VEX. And I would also like to learn more about computers
I have been thinking about high school since was young. I thought it was so far away and now I am ready to graduate middle school and go to high school. This got me thinking about college. I realize that I need to find a high school that will help me succeed and reach my goal of going to college. I need a program that will help me find new things that will interest me. As an 8th grader getting ready to go into high school I was looking at applications and, I came across Lake View High School and I was intrigued. As I read on I was satisfied with what I read because I know that this program will help me succeed in high school and college. Knowing that, I really want to be a part of this school.
More than just an Education As a college student, one of my main goals is to earn my degree in college and start working in the medical field. But, another thing I want to achieve is to gain knowledge that will help me survive the real world outside of just working. Attending USF will help me reach both of my goals because it is a Christian Liberal Arts School. Here, I will not only learn about Computer Science and Biology, but I will also be well rounded when I leave because of what our School is. The University of Sioux Falls will not only enable me to do what I love but it will also teach me important morals and creative topics that general education could not.
I would like to make it out of highschool and into college. The reason I would like to do that is because I would like to take my dad's advice for once and prove everyone wrong. Also so I can prove to myself that I can do something if I put my mind to it.Also to show myself that hard work pays off sometimes.
As the first in my family to even have the opportunity to go to college, making my parents proud is an important motivation, but I primarily seek a higher education in hopes of someday becoming a successful Foreign Service Officer (FSO). I dream of making an impact on people’s lives by bridging the United States with foreign nations and extending the promise of better opportunity to those in need. However, effectual FSOs must master many abilities, including critical thinking, writing, and cultural adaptability. I believe that going to college would be the most effective way to prepare for the FSO test and career path.
I attend a relatively small, private, Catholic high school in northern New Jersey called Don Bosco Prep. I am involved in a variety of activities including sports, music, and various clubs and organizations. My school encouraged me to grow academically, socially, culturally, and spiritually. Our school motto is “empowering young men for life”. I feel that my school has given me the tools to be an engaged student. The school promotes a brotherhood which has benefitted me personally. Whether a friendship forged from a study group or one formed with a teammate, each friendship brings different experiences to my life for which I am grateful.
I once heard a quote that stated, “It’s the oldest story in the book. One day, you’re 17 and you’re planning for someday. And then quietly, without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life.” As senior year comes to an end, there are bitter sweet feelings. As I look towards my future, I have one foot heading out the door, and yet one filmy planted not wanting to let go. The mere thought of saying my final goodbyes, learning my last few lessons as an Assumption student, and clearing out my locker for one last time makes me apprehensive. The uncertainty and expectation that consumes our thoughts and feelings motivate us for our futures. However as we move our tassel on our final day, we transform to alumni, and as we bid farewell to the school that connected us all, I hope we all keep a piece of Assumption with us.
Students go to school for 13 years of their life and thinking about what it's going to be like in the “real world.” Most kids want to go to college to study for a particular degree for their real life or want to go for the joy in it but what most kids need is a break. Kids are required to be in high school for specific amount of time each day and every day of the week so by providing time off before college it can give students financial benefits, time benefits and choice benefits.
My point is very important if Freshmen want to do things in high school. They really need to pay attention to what they are doing and make sure that they do their homework and get good grades. Because even their grades from 8th grade can also influence if they can play a sport or not in high school. So they need to make sure that they pass those exams that their teacher may assign and do their homework. When I was in Junior High my teachers always told us that we needed to do our homework and study for our test. But I never knew the reason why until I came to High School, Even some of my teacher gave us Exam’s to take at the end of the school year so we knew how it felt to take exams. It was pretty hard but it got me ready to come here. So
When I first started high school I hated it, I felt like it was a lot of pressure and everyone seemed to know everyone and I had just moved from Texas and came into a class where everyone knew each other. I stood out and felt very uncomfortable but as time went by I loved high school. I made lots of new friends, had great teachers that were very close to me and was succeeding in my classes. My main goal was to graduate with a good GPA, do well on my ACT and make my mom proud. Coming to Illinois was a big change from Texas, my parents separated and my dad abandoned us so my mom decided to move to Illinois because her brother lives here and would help her out financially till she was on her feet. My mom works two jobs. I am the youngest out
