I am a dedicated and loyal person who always follows through for people. People know me for my kindness and of how accepting I am. There is a lot of surprise when I let people know about my battles with chronic illnesses. When I was in the third grade, I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. This has made me a strong person who can bounce back from tough times. I keep nothing but a positive attitude, and, despite my obstacles, I'm grateful for everything I have. Sometimes I surprise myself with what I've accomplished, and it astounds me how wonderful life is even when I have no idea what it is like to be pain free. I am fighting, and I believe that shapes who I am in positive ways. So my high school GPA says I am not a great student, but I disagree. I am extremely passionate about …show more content…
I strive to learn and I take the knowledge from classrooms and connect it to real life. That’s why my essays in literature and history are the best in my classes because I go beyond textbooks and beyond required curriculum to learn. I think big picture and out of the box. My sister did not do well in school either, but now she is a successful set designer in New York City. I have been in many leadership positions that make me a great candidate for scholarships. As a freshman in high school, I was already leading a club, Girl Talk, which mentored middle school girls into becoming leaders themselves. By my junior year, I was student directing the school production. This year, my senior year, I musically directed our show, Little Shop of Horrors. I am also vice president of the Select Women's Choir at Walton. I have worked very hard to become a strong leader and I’d like to take this skill even further. I grew up wanting to be as independent as possible, however I have learned that you can’t be without some dependence. Because of that I know when I need help, when to listen, and when to
What I’ve learned from my past educational experience is how to be a good leader through holding various leadership positions such as; Sectional Leader and Band Captain of my High School Marching Band, President of my school's Art Club for the past two years and hoping to become the Captain or Co Captain of my school’s Varsity Soccer Team. I’ve obtained the ability to work with the special education kids at my school by volunteering to help with Special Olympics and Bridge Club sports. I’ve also put in many hours practicing my music and art abilities since I plan to go to school for Music Education and a minor in Music Therapy. Overall I am a very active student and plan to join various activities in college and hope to continue volunteering
Black males in America often suffer the consequences of stereotypical judgment placed upon them. Because of the conventional image given to black males, they immediately have to deal with the repercussions of social inequality. In what some consider “White America”, white males have always been thought to have white privilege. Black males have been abused for hundreds of years, dating way back to slavery which began in the 1600’s.
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
The TV is blaring the sounds of the recent Red Sox game, while my Nana is in her recliner glued to the program. I sit on the stiff couch across from her, looking at the pictures on the wall, unable to concentrate on the sports announcer’s voice for more than a couple seconds. She glances over at me and asks, “Did you get something to eat?” I smile and say “yeah” knowing I’ve answered the question three times. She smiles, and returns her attention to the game.
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
The foreclosure crisis is the second major financial dilemma of the twenty-first century. To solve this, the roots of the problem need to be dug up and exposed followed by replanting with an appropriately improved regulatory system to help build stronger roots for the future. It seems that the free market system can't be free anymore given its intertwining roots extend way beyond domestic to international financial systems. There are two fundamental causes to the latest credit crisis: 1) poor quality securitized mortgages and 2) insufficient underwriting for credit poor borrowers. Secondary (downstream) problems making the financial crisis more complex include underemployment and business failures. Many banks,
For this scholarship, I wanted to make whoever is reading this short essay to know who I truly am and who I truly want to become. I am a 17-year-old girl with aspirations and dreams that I am determined to reach. Growing up in a religious family, I was always brought up with specific morals and values but that has shaped me into the person I am today. I grew up in a family where their education was not nearly as good as mine is today. Being the first one in my family to go to a four-year college makes me want to push harder to make them happy. As a young child, I always had an interest in cooking, reading, and playing tennis. The qualities that I have used doing these things has shaped me into the person I am today. These hobbies taught me
I am in great need. I have 12 credits left for my undergrad degree, and my financial aid has run out. I've applied for a personal student loan but was not approved. However, I am short of $4,500 plus monies for my school books. Please note, if the agency can help me, this will be a loan. I am very independent and won't to repay the monies make to "Exhale Women." I don't have supporting documentation from Liberty University if need.
My main reason for wanting to participate in NSLI-Y is because I am considering all my possible majors and career paths that I can strive for in college. One career path I am considering is going into translation and working either for the government or international business relations. I hope that by taking part in NSLI-Y, I can find out whether this career path is possible for me.
Did you know athletes with pleasing grades and with a fantastic grade point average (GPA), double their chances of making it to college with a scholarship? Talented Athletes usually slack off because they think their talent could get them into college, that’s why schools all over America should make a 2.5 GPA requirement to be eligible to play in sports. To get a Scholarship its taken hard work and dedication in the classroom, having a fantastic GPA with four to five star talent will help you get into college. Also will likely get you an athletic scholarship from a higher rated D1 School like UCLA, U of A, also Organ University, Etc. It also helps you long term to have a Fair GPA that way if you don’t succeed in what you play, you can depend on getting a higher paying job. Over the past years the required GPA to meet NCAA requirements was raised, and will continue to increase slowly.
I believe that I am a great candidate for this scholarship because throughout my life I have tried my hardest to do my best to obtain an education that will take me down the right path. My family has always taught me to depend on myself as much as I possibly can before asking for help. I believe this is what I was taught because my family wanted to show and teach me individual responsibility in order to be a productive citizen in this country. With that in mind I plan on funding my own education to the best of my ability. I have a good foundation starting in high school with a 3.89 unweighted GPA and a 4.21 weighted GPA as well as a 96.88 numeric average which placed me at 6th in my class of 76.
It has been my dream and goal to pursue a career in medicine for as long as I can remember. Becoming a physician will allow me to combine my passion for science and medicine with my values of service and helping others. Pursuing a Masters of Biomedical Sciences will allow me to gain valuable knowledge and experience necessary to become a successful medical student and future-practicing physician. I graduated from the University of Kansas in May with a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish, while also on the pre-medical track. With my degree, I was able to take the general science requirements necessary in order to matriculate into medical school, with only a few elective science classes such as Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, Microbiology, and Mammalian Physiology.
Thank you for the generous scholarship amount of $5000 to go towards my education. Affording college would have not been possible without this scholarship. I have the opportunity to go to college debt free.
Since I was young, I loved to hang out with kids, and I liked to teach them and play or talk to them. I thought that their love for knowledge was amazing and it taught me to be more curious and to ask more questions. I felt nervous every time I was around them, but as time went, I got more and more comfortable around kids. I wanted to babysit them at first, so I took a course in Vancouver, Canada and I got a certificate with my friend!
At two in the morning, an uproar of jabbering voices suddenly drags me from my dreams. My mother appears ghostlike in my room and quickly grabs some money from my wallet without uttering a word. An ambulance arrives in our neighborhood’s dark alleyway and I realize that my grandfather is being taken away again. Yet this time, my mother is sneaking the bills into his pockets, bills that, in Vietnamese culture, are supposed to provide prosperity when crossing into the afterlife.
