Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece is widely believed to be the cradle of modern western, scientific, and humanistic ways of thought. They have paved a great way for our modern literature, political structure, arts and more. In this summary, I will explain some of these legacies and explain how they helped mold our current society’s way of living. A political achievement of Ancient Greece was the formation of a democracy. They implemented 3 varied branches of the government that allowed for citizens above the age of 18 to contribute to. Granted, you would have to be male to assist in politics but this form of a government was unheard of at the time, this was definitely a step up. A modern example of this political achievement is the now known “Jury Trial”. In Greek society, random citizens were chosen to observe trials and come to an assessment. Ancient Greek thinkers helped construct a new (and widely implemented) way of learning/study. These scholars stimulated a grand reawakening to creation and progression through their newly constructed methods of teaching. Our standards can easily be traced back to Herodotus, Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato. Not to mention notable teachers such as Archimedes and Euclid. These men developed the foundation of the modern academic system. In terms of the arts, Greece is unprecedented to many cultures. These people made an immense impact on our forms of entertainment.
