Charlemagne took many steps in order to secure his empire’s political and cultural importance. The empire was falling apart before Charlemagne became joint king of the Franks. Charlemagne restored the importance in learning and education. He conquered for political gain and was devoted to the Church. Charlemagne was a great warrior and was able to use his family’s background and prestige to further enlarge the amount of land he already had given to him. He was proven to have skill in war and talents to overcome civil disputes. Charlemagne’s reign was dominated by military advances but initiated by different thoughts of thinking. He wanted to spread Christianity where most countries denounced the religion, he needed to protect his land from enemies and invaders and his overall liking of war and collecting militarial gains of war. He fought against the Germanic people and the Muslim people from making any advances towards his land or his people. With him being busy with all his battles he would have to assign people to report on the happenings of the provinces he ruled “Members of this circle, some with titles suggesting primitive administrative departments, performed on royal orders various functions related to managing royal resources, conducting military campaigns and diplomatic missions” (Sullivan). The land Charlemagne owned was too big for him alone to be able to cover so he had to have people that were designated to an area to be able to make sure his laws were being enforced everywhere. In order further promote stability he enacted “Royal legislation sought to protect the weak against exploitation and injustice. The king helped to clarify the incipient lord-vassal system and utilized that form of social contract to promote order and stability”
